  1. Welcome to Geocaching. Check out the questions and answers in the Getting Started section of the forum. Many of your same questions get answered there quite frequently. I would recommend finding 10 or so caches before you try to place one, this will give you a good idea of what other people do when hiding one. It will let you see various types of containers, log books and cache trading items. Finding 10 isn't the magic number, but should give you a good idea of what to expect. You should be able to get a lot of help if needed since Burlington is geographically in a Geocaching rich part of the state. Good luck- Eswau
  2. Forgot to thank everyone for helping me pick some caches in the Raleigh area. I think I did 4 regular caches and 4 Virtuals. After living in NC for the past 38 years, it was my first trip to Raleigh, but I'm sure we'll be back. Thanks again, Eswau
  3. I live about 5 miles from Dallas and have set this quick multi cache up Let's Do Dallas Have fun with it
  4. Woodsters - Check out Next Charlotte area meeting
  5. I'll be coming through Raleigh later this month and would like to find a few caches. My problem however will be that I will need to find caches that aren't too far from where I can park the car. I'll have the wife and two kids (2 years old & 7 months) with me and she gets kind of squirrely when I leave them parked in the car and go into the woods. So does anyone know of a few caches (not counting virtuals) that I could search for and keep the car in sight? Thanks Eswau
  6. Be sure to set this meeting up as an official Geo event on Geocaching.com. You enter the coordinates of the restaurant, date and time. That way people who don't read the geocaching forums or are members of the Yahoo group will see it. Most people will post a note saying they are coming and after they do come they will go back and post the event as a find. Thanks for setting all of this up ( I tried to email you but it bounced back) Eswau
  7. It's a small world after all......... We're planning on coming up a weekend in late Feb to see the museum and the Titanic exhibit. I won't have a lot of free time to geocache but hope to get a couple while in town. With a two year old in tow, I'm sure we'll be stopping by the cafe. Eswau
  8. Thanks for the help Bartacus. Eswau
  9. Does anyone by chance happen to know the coordinates for the Museum of Natural Sciences or can tell me the closest Geocache to it? Thanks, Eswau
  10. Sunday afternoon would be best for team Eswau, with two small kids it can be hard to make it to some points of Mecklenburg County (from Gaston County) during the middle of the week. I tried to set up something for January but it was denied for not being enough about Geocaching. Aparently it's OK to meet for dinner but add a visit to a musuem in with that dinner and it's not OK Ironically, that event would have been today (13th). Hopefully someone will be able to get something set up and we will be able to attend. Eswau
  11. I was talking to someone the other day about a variation of this but one thing we couldn't figure out is - Do libraries still use the Dewey Decimal System or have most switched to the Library of Congress numbering system? Eswau
  12. Are their any restrictions on how close two points of a multi cache can be? Thanks, Eswau
  13. I've also been having problems with Road Runner. I get about 50% of my Geocaching mail. Some weeks I get my new cache notification and some weeks I don't, recently I got about half of the logs where someone had found one of my caches or travel bugs. I'm very close to switching to my work email, but then I wouldn't have access to emails on the weekend. Please let me know if anyone makes any progress with RR.Com. Eswau
  14. Thanks for the help. Yes, it is a roadrunner account. If I can't get it worked out I'll switch my email to work. Funny though, they don't filter out the 30+ emails I get each day for Paris Hilton videos, porn and Viagra. Thanks, E
  15. I've noticed the last two weeks I haven't received my Thursday weekly updates. I checked my account and everything is still set up to receive emails. Anyone else not getting their weekly updates? E
  16. I cache alone, yeah, with nobody else I cache alone, yeah, with nobody else You know when I cache alone, I prefer to be by myself OK, apologizes to George Thorogood........ With two children under the age of two, it's hard for the family to go Geocaching, plus the wife really doesn't care for it that much. She has helped me put a couple out though. If we're on a road trip I'll try and get a couple a virtuals but sometimes it's hard to get to a regular cache. So about 95% of mine have been solo and 5% while the family waits in the car. E
  17. Was it ever decided that there was or was not going to be a Geocaching calendar? I don't recall seeing any discussion after the original on a few months ago. E

  19. I've made 3 different GPS purchases from www.gpsdiscount.com and have had no problems what so ever from them. I'm sure there are others that are just as good, but I've been very pleased with GPS Discount. Where ever you buy from - be sure to compare shipping charges also, there can be big differences in them. E (not connected in anyway to them) Always remember that you are unique. 21. On the main page, if you scroll down by the states you will see an * beside each one that has had a cache placed in it during the last week. The last few times I've checked every state has had a new cache within the last 7 days. I imagine most will always have one placed in it at least once a week. Perhaps you might want to change that to 1-2 days or eliminate it all together as now all states will most likely always have an * beside them. E Always remember that you are unique. 23. quote: I've just been informed that if we have all the other right elements, we would be willing to rent a Grand Cherokee to carry the family on a geocache adventure I wonder if it would be pointed out in the article in the JEEP magazine that the family going Geocaching in their JEEP is actually riding in a rental JEEP and perhaps have never been in a JEEP before. Kind of takes away from the purpose of the JEEP magazine doesn't it? Maybe you can do a generic story and rent a bunch of different vehicles and do the Jeep Family Geocaching Trip, The Yukon Family Geocaching Trip, The Highlander Family Geocaching Trip, heck why not the Mini-Cooper Family Geocaching Trip. My point is if it's going to be published in the JEEP magazine, wouldn't it be more iomportant to use someone that actually owns and drives a JEEP instead of making that your least important variable? 24. We were looking at getting a pair of FRS radios and while looking at some I discovered the GMRS type. Other than the FCC fee, I couldn't find a reason why anyone wouldn't want to go the GMRS route than the FRS route (also maybe cost of the radios). Can anyone suggest a model of radio that they have been using and are happy with. Are there drawbacks to the GMRS radios that I'm not seeing? Also about the FCC license fee - Are you required to pay the fee at time of purchase? If not, how does Uncle Sam know you have the license? Are you required to carry sometype of license with you while using the radios? Thanks, E Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

quote: It is a pity that so many people have so little to do but complain about EVERY upgrade that is done to this site! If you dont like it DONT LOOK! From the quick read I've done on this thread (not reading every comment) I wouldn't say people are really complaining, more like offering suggestions to what might suit them or others better. I would even guess that TPTB are interested in hearing these comments so they ca=n tweak the features to better suit the caching community. That said, I too hope they unclutter the icons, remove the archieved caches and allow for a complete state view. Not a complaint just my wish list. E Always remember that you are unique.
