A plea to tidy up cache listings...
The Red Kite replied to The Blorenges's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Theres not much doubt about whether a coin or bug is missing or not, when the whole cache has gone -
A plea to tidy up cache listings...
The Red Kite replied to The Blorenges's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
If a coin goes missing from one of my caches, (usually because its been muggled!) I always email the owner to let them know that their item has been taken from one of my caches and apologise. I feel so guilty. I know its a risk they take when releasing them, and all that, but it is happening more frequently lately. -
Where is the rain they promised?
The Red Kite replied to currykev's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Its been raining here for weeks now, but the torrential rain we were promised for all day on Saturday did not materialise until early evening. I am developing webbed feet -
Thanks for the plug MrsB. Abercachers is open to everyone whether they are in Wales or elsewhere. It's a bit quite at the moment so some new "faces" would be very welcome. Come and say Hi. The website "owner" and designer is Al Cole (forcesofnature). www.aber-cachers.co.uk

Garmin geocoin promotion:All coin versions now released.
The Red Kite replied to slimey's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Tried my luck in Shrewsbury today. Blacks said they had some but they had all gone, they have no idea whether they are expecting any more. They said they knew nothing about it until someone came in and asked for one!! They had them the same day and they all went. They seemed surprised LOL I explained there is a very good grapevine Then I tried Millet's.. lots of cheap tents and camping goodies but no coins, no idea whether they will get any although one of the staff did seem to know about them. Neither of the shops had any publicity material whatsoever on display. -
Garmin geocoin promotion:All coin versions now released.
The Red Kite replied to slimey's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I went into our local Milletts yesterday and they had no idea what i was talking about. They said they may get some coins but they are usually the last to know about anything!! Well Aber IS the end of the line, so why am I not surprised?! I shall keep trying. In the meantime if anyone can get a spare one and would be kind enough to send it my way I will gladly release it in Wales. -
That's so funny!! I love the little twist at the end

Making the cache a multi or a puzzle helps as casual readers of the GC.com cache pages or those looking to steal geocoins will be deterred from working out the co-ords. A good hide off the beaten track goes without saying. Thats exactly my plan for any new caches I decide to put out. Too many muggles around stealing caches/coins or spoiling our fun. I reckon anyone who has to put some effort into finding them is not going to spoil the game for others.

Unpleasant muggling :(
The Red Kite replied to Primitive Person's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I recently had to disable one of my caches due to it having been replaced and covered "inappropriately" by the last finder, the result being the lid cracked and let water in. He also left some stuff which I deemed not a fit swap and not suitable for a cache aimed at children. I had a pretty snotty email from him when I logged the owner maintenance note. Since I removed the cache the hide site seems to be used as a human toilet. Needless to say its not going to be replaced!! I am still trying to find a decent site for the new cache as it was part of a popular series. -
Post code search (accuracy)
The Red Kite replied to Eclectic Penguin's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'm glad someone has brought this up. I have never had a problem before, although my nearest caches were not the nearest listed to my home post code, but they were only out by about 1/3 mile. Now they are about 15 miles out!! The cache nearest to my house is on the third page! -
Graveyards, and your final "cache"
The Red Kite replied to Stuey's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I won't have a headstone. I will be cremated and have my ashes sent out in lots of sealed containers as TBs with their mission to go around the world. It's the only way I will ever get to go abroad -
What a shame the third birthday is on the weekend of the Mega event. Can we have the party on the 4th?

I have a travel bug hotel ..sorry I HAD a travel bug hotel .. in an ammo box, so well hidden even cachers couldn't always find it.. It has been stolen, complete with my resident Red Kite and a couple of TBs. I have now archived it because it maintenance involved cycling three miles uphill. Only a cacher could have known where to find it. Several of my other local caches have been stolen as well although they could have been discovered by accident. I have now removed the hints from all my cache pages and any placing I do in future will be for premium members only. (Most likely puzzles with kazillions of clues to be found so that anyone intending to nick it will be fed up before they are halfway to solving it ) Its very sad that individuals feel it necessary to spoil things for others.

The Wishing Coin...'Tis a mystery for sure...
The Red Kite replied to mousekakat's topic in Trackables
Greetings from across the big pond. I came across this thread by accident and have never heard of mystery coins before, or coins being distributed in this way. I don't think we have anything like this in the UK. This coin is absolutely beautiful and what a lovely idea. You have brought such joy to the recipients and this is such a generous gesture. The mystery is intriguing. Keep up the good work - making people smile -

RIP - Maddie of Team Maddie
The Red Kite replied to Team Maddie UK's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
{{Lynn and Martin}} Very sad to read this news. I only met Maddie a couple of times but still have fond memories of caching with her when I came out of hospital. You must be devastated. -
I agree Ali, kids get everywhere. I spend ages trying to find a good spot that is in a nice area and not obvious to muggles. Unfortunately most of the places I can get to with my limited transport (pushbike and Shanks's pony!) are easy access to kids and walkers also. I do the best with the available space to give someone else entertainment. Sometimes the logs are very critical of my choice of hide. If all they want to do is criticise I may as well archive the lot. I spend ages getting the swaps right and placing the caches etc., not for my benefit, I can't even log them!!
