  1. I am almost done updating my geocaching diary for 2010, and enjoying the reliving of all the caches we have done during the year, and there are quite a few fond memories for 2010. Here are the ones which stood out most to me: - Sani Top event. - Bodatious Bloemfontein dash and cache. - Giving Jors his beer. - Completing the MF2010 series of caches. - Being part of the 2010 TB race. - Getting the "Spirit of Caching" coin, and meeting up with "6 feet more". - Finding the oldest cache in Gauteng (Pretoria-East 001) . - The techno events. - Meeting up with oom Louwtjie. - Doing the 10-10-10 Flash mob in Irene. Thanks to all who have shared, and made some of these memories with us.
  2. I would like to suggest Graaff-Reinet as a possible venue for such a mega event. A few point about Graaff-Reinet. 1) It is 7 hours from CapeTown (caching time excluded) 2) It is 8 hours from Johannesburg (caching time excluded) 3) Durban, East London, and Bloem are not to far away either. 4) It has many Bed and Breakfasts for cachers coming for the weekend. 5) It has lots of historical sites to visit. 6) It has space for lots more caches which could be placed in the area. My brother in law lives in the town, and he says the best time would be in June or July for such a type of event, as the B&Bs are very quite during that time. He suggested one could also organise that one could visit all the monuments, and historical sites at a reduced price if one is a geocacher over the weekend. The only problem possibly be the exact venue where we would meet. This could either be at the boat club, but major preparations would need to be done. Or in the caravan park. Maybe someone knows a farmer in the area, and we could have it there? If there is an interest in hoding such an event in Graaff-Reinet, I can find out more.
  3. There is a new map feature available to view all caches in the world. Have a look at the World Map or if you want to see Cape Town Area are. Nice thing it supports multiple underlying maps.
  4. Wishing all our geocaching friends form near and far a blessed and festive Christmas. Thanks for touching our lives in some way May you all have limited DNF, and many FiNDs in the coming year. Have a good new year, and looking forward to celebrate the opening of the new year at the 10 Year CapeTown eventt. I'll have my video camera with me on the day. Regards Anton, Trish, Jerome, Alex, Anya (team DamhuisClan)
  5. An update to my rubber problem with the eTrex HCX. As you know the rubber is coming off, and has been quite annoying over the last few weeks of caching as the buttons don't work properly. My father-in-law here had some glue called "Q-Bond" which he says he got from Midas at around R65.00 per bottle. He says it works like super-glue, and I took the chance and stuck the rubber back on to the GPS unit. It seems to be sticking quite well, but I have not had it outside in the sun yet for any period of time. I will give more feedback in a weeks time or so after I have handled it a little more. But for now it seems to be sticking.
  6. Our accomedation is booked in CapeTown. So things are looking great for us being there. We will be there from the 6th to the 8th, leaving for home on the 9th. We made our booking via www.hostelworld.com, and got accomedation at R100.00 per person per night at a backpackers lodge.
  7. Question: How would you feel / react if your caches were taken over to OC by someone else other then yourself?
  8. For now I will also stay with GS. I am a bit concerned the "Open"caching is run by Garmin. That does not sound very "open" to me. I do hope though that this will force GS to open up their API to more 3rd party applications, as OC is allowing. I see GSAK is already supporting the OC API in a some basic format. Interesting times ahead!
  9. Congrats to: cache-fan with 2000 finds, Danie Viljoen with 1350, B and C Inc with 450, Wurm man met 1100, warthog (who i met again on the weekend) at 850, skiboo (new-ish in our area) at 150 finds and Wazat approaching 1000 with 50 to go. Source: http://www.sageostats.co.za/
  10. i also have an eTrax HCX, and love it.... al but for one thing. The rubber around the unit. In our African summers the glue comes of, and on our last outing the whole rubber came off. While it was still under warranty I took it back to Avnic to be repaired, which they did, but it hasn't lasted.
  11. I am concentrating on my "new and improved" version of a geocoin tracking program. I have not updated my GSAK database for about 2 months now. But I still have downloaded every set of PQ every 2nd day. So will catch up at some point again. If Danie can't answer any questions, Ill gladly have a look at it. I do however read the forums from time to time.
  12. Congrats to iPajero on 3600, and on one of my caches. Whoohoo! And Antron on 1200 finds. I am starting to lag behind.....

Morning Carbon Hunter, and the pooks Also getting your Monday morning fix.
  14. Do you remember the date? Do you save your track logs? The only cache I know of that could sort of be used for your log is "NOLY - Headless Horseman" (GC18MZ0) but that is up here in Gauteng.
  15. In my database I only have 3 caches which have the word "Ghost" and "Horse" in the same log entry. These caches are: GC1VRNX GC1VRNX GC2764Q
  16. I did a quick SQL search on my database for "ghost rider", but nothing was returned. What you can try and do, is download your "MyFinds.gpx" file, and rename it to ".txt" (at the end), and then use something like Notepad to open the file, and look for the text within. What could have happened, although very unlikely, is that the owner of the cache deleted your log. That way it would never show up. But this is highly unlikely.
  17. I have a spare unactivated TB if someone is interested. PM me if you are interested. Preference will be given to a person from overseas who wants to join in the race.
  18. Does the kidnappers name start with a vowel?
  19. So what is the story? Who kidnapped little cacher? What was the randsome? How long was he missing for?
  20. Dit so nou lekker gewees het om 'n event by te woon. Maar ja, die vlug vertrek 17H00 terug JHB toe. Die laaste sessie eindig 18H15 elke aand. Noggal laat. So as een van julle dalk nog daai tyd in the stad is, sal ek graag iewers 'n bier gaan drink.

Good morning trevorh7000. Also getting your forum fix this morning I see.
  22. I'll be down in Durban from Sunday morning the 17th, till Wednesday the 20th for Tech Ed. I'll be staying at a Southern Sun hotel at 63 Snell Parade. At this point it looks like my morning, is pretty open, as registration only opens at about 15H00. Are there any good accessible caches around the hotel area? It looks like "The Old Fort" and "Kingsmead Cricket" is nearby. Perhaps a local (willing) cachers who could show me around a little?
  23. @CH That was my guess as well...
  24. Yep.... .that narrows it down a little [black-eye]
