  1. Took this one at Dikhololo while out on a game drive.
  2. Ek sal bietjie met die res van die familie gesels, en dalk sien ons julle daar.
  3. WOW! Wow! wow! What a BIG change from the little stylus interface on my Windows Mobile 6 phone to this! I am loving the interface! I downloaded a Digotal compass, and a bubble level, and was the envy of my kids after showing it to them. I downloaded c:geo, and very impressed with the interface. Also tried to get to geobeagle in Android Market place, but I don't seem to find it. Is there any other "must have" geocaching software I should look at? or any other general software I should look at?
  4. Hi TN I have tried to create this query with SQL lite, but have so far not been able to do so. There are some nice features in MS SQL 2008 which would allow me to do it, with quite a complex query, and some one on my SQL support group assisted me in creating one quite a while ago. And exporting the data each time from SQLite to MSSQL was also long and cumbersome. Regards Anton
  5. A wild flier. Something to do with the 30th Maridium?
  6. I looked a little bit through the Autopage web site today and saw they have a special for new contracts, and would you believe it, it is R150.00 per month with a HTC Wildfire. I have been with Autopage since 1996, and I have to pay in R900.00 odd to get the same phone. This did not sit to well with me, so I decided to give them a call. The guy on the other end said, that special was only for new contracts .... "but let see what we can do". In the end I am getting my HTC Wildfire delivered to me in 4 days time, with a Anytime 100, at R135.00 a month, and an admin fee of R95.00, and a once off payment of R100.00. Both will be added to my next months bill. I think if I had gunned it a little more and mentioned the MTN deal, he might have come up with a slightly better deal, but I am happy with what I got. So I will be staying with Autopage for another two years, and it shows you, it helps to shop around a little and not just jump in. Looking forward to the phone, and trying out the GPS on it. Will report back once I have it. As I side note: This is quite a big step for me as I am a Microsoft fan. My last 3 phones were Windows mobile phones, and I program using .Net., although I like "open" software a lot as well.
  7. I read this and thought my one cache is marginal, and wrote and email to him for clarification. Andy's reply put me somewhat at ease in that if I can remove the cache in 2 or 3 minutes and leave no trace of it being there, then all should be fine. This it is. If I had 2 minutes to remove the cache there would be no trace what-so-ever, of it every have been there. But the final decision still lies with me, so for now I will keep it as is.

    I spy

On a lazy Sunday afternoon I see: Fish Eagle, Bouts777
  9. I see with AutoPage Cellular I must pay in almost R900.00 for the HTC Wildfire. on a Anytime 100. (Around R150,00 per month) I happened to click on a MTN advert somewhere on the internet, and went to www.mtnsp.co.za and see I can get the same deal for R140.00 a month with nothing to pay in. So it now looks like I can get the phone even cheaper then before. Is there any good reason not to go directly with MTN? (but rather stay with Autopage as a service provider)
  10. Hi Geo936 Please reconsider and plant a few caches, I think it would be cool to ride with a group of other geocachers, and do a few along the way. Event 3 or 4 would be fine. They just don't have to be FTF's. That is/was the part I was looking forward to most.
  11. How about planting and publishing the caches over a 2 week period, before the event. Mark each cache as being part of the breakfast run. Then those who want to chase after the FTF can do so, and those that want to join in in the "team find" event, can also do so. This should satisfy both sides of the fence. Maybe have a single "surprise" FTF for the day. CapeDoc had one at the 10 Year Geocaching event, which I think went down very well, and I think is the biggest combined FTF find to date.
  12. I would like to join, but only have a 200cc bike. 90km per hour top speed. But I cant make it on the 26th as we will be in the KNP. I agree with Team_vdlo, I prefer chasing my FTFs rather than a group effort. But if I am there and it is a FTF, I will take it. However I like the (unspoken(?)) rule, with regards to FTF finding, that if you arrive and and the logbook is still being signed, you get to partake in the FTF. If the FTF is back in the container. Then sorry you are to late.
  13. Sorry ...one more question: Does an Android phone sync in with M$ Outlook, With this I mean, can I sync my contacts, notes, and emails from Outlook to the phone?
  14. Its a pity with the Market place not being available in SA. But it looks like I will be going for the phone.
  15. Thanks for the info guys. Can a phone with 21. by upgraded to 2.3 quite easily? I am not that much of a geek any more that I want to sit endless nights hacking and upgrading the phone.
  16. I am about to upgrade my phone on a new 2 year contract. As my service provider, does not yet have Windows phone 7 phones, I am looking at the HTC Wildfire, running Android 2.1 It has a built in GPSr. Just what I need for Geocaching when my Garmin is not around. However I have reason to believe, due some blogs/posts/articles, that "Paid Apps" are not available for us South Africans. Is this true? Has anybody bought the Android geocaching app, here in South Africa and using it?
  17. If the date is open, DamhuisClan in whole or part will try and attend.
  18. My video of the 10 Year Geocaching in South Africa event is up on
  19. When we were travelling up Sani Pass, Jors'es GPSr and my GPSr, both Garmins, reported a difference in hight of about 6 meters. If this were true the car was leaning heavily towards one side, and we would be screaming rather than looking at our GPSrs. From this I have concluded that the height above sea level, is not to be trusted. I think we should have another test of all the GPSrs. Maybe at the next techno event, and each GPSr gets a chance to state what it thinks the height above sea level is of a specific point.
  20. Hi one and all. I have had a chat to Jors, and we will be getting together, for a glass of bubbly, at his cache GCZA01.2 (GC1RNAY) on Sunday afternoon at around 3PM, to commemorate the first cache find in South Africa. It is far to late to make an event out of it, but we do hope to see a few extra faces around. Hope some of the Gautengers can make it. This was the reply from Jors in the other tread: I'll see you on the 16th, around 3PM, thanks DamhuisClan! It would be great to see many more cachers there, even though it won't be an event. Link: GCZA01.2

  22. On the way to Roodepoort....
  23. A little further up and to the west there is an Alien Head cache trail. I wouldn't mind doing that power trail. From reading a few logs, it seems its a 10 km hike, to do all of them in the "Alien Head" series. But the one along the road... Naah ... wouldn't do that. I would get tired of stopping every 160 meters, and then it is just about the numbers, if one does it.
