On the 9th of April, at the top of Carlton Centre, we the DamhuisClan made our 1000th unique trackable item discovery. As it turned out the coin belongs to Madsons, and is one of the 10 Year anniversary coins.

I am toying with a few ideas, for the 9 provinces I have cut out some provinces, and played a bit with some other MC Esher shapes, trying to find some interesting way for them to fit together. But I must say, I am procrastinating a little with it.

I got my coins on Friday. 10 out of 10 to the South African Post Office on getting the coins to me .... but, 0 out of 10 to the South African Post Office on customer service. 0 out 0f 10 to the South African Post Office on correctly copying the delivery address so I can receive the pick-up note. 0 out of 10 to the South African Post Office on their 0860 111 502 number where I held on for 1 Hour 20 minutes to speak to an "agent", and eventually put down as I had to go to a meeting. 0 out of 10 to the South African Post Office on long queues, 2 people servicing this queue, and it being the end of the month. 0 out of 10 to the South African Post Office on having their card reader not working when I had to pay the additional R34.00.

I finder of my Edenvale Panther cache found it, but when wanting to replace it, had someone stitting on/at ground zero. He then hid it nearby under a roack, and uploaded a photo of it with his online log. I think this is more then acceptable, and glad he did this. I feel he took the cache out of the game only for the next finder, and possibly only for a day or so. If you remove the cache it is out of play for many days/weeks.

Mine have also not arrived as yet. Got an email from them that it was shipped. .... I think that was about 2 weeks ago.

BTW .. on the GSAK forum they are talking about 2Gig + databases that some people are using. My "All SA + Logs" database is only .... drum roll ... 110 Meg big. As it happened, in the last week I am also adding in all the southern Africa countries in.

I agree. One Database for everything is the way to go. Create filters and save them. As new data arrives, they will be included in your filter. So you can have a filter for: All SA - Unfound All SA My hides Bloemfontein. ....etc. As you select the saved filter from the combo box drop down, you will see only the relevant caches.

Hi Gerhard I still been thinking / talking a little abouyt the trip in June, but some work commitments would have made it difficult for me as well. So the postponement is a good one, for us as well, as I would love to do this trip as well. Lets see how it goes in 2012.

Hi Gruss If you don't come right with a German cacher, I will gladly take you around Johannesburg for a day, and do some caches in the area, and do some sightseeing.

Ok, here goes.... Google got its name from a googel, with I think is a 10 to the power of 10 * a hundred zeroes. it was two varsity students who came up with the program / algorithm for the, what is now known, as the google search engine, and when they had to get paid for something, the check that was made out to them was spelt incorrectly as "Google", and from there the name seemed to have stuck. Wat I love about google though is their head office is called GooglePlex ... complex ... Googleplex ... just love the wordplay.

Let me get it in early.... I am planning a quick get together for Wednesday the 29th February 2012. If you don't do a cache on that day, you will need to wait another 4 years before you can tick off that day as done.

Ok ... this post is almost SPAM .... but I think this is relevant to our geocaching experience here in Gauteng. We all must have been thinking that our geocaching outings will decline with the new Toll Fees come into effect in March June. There is a political party who have set up a web site, where you can leave your signature email address, as part of a petition to government. They are proposing a toll fee of R0.05 per kilometre. They wanted a total of 100,000 email signitures, and currently have just over 120,000. With the awesome response they have had they want to try and push it up to 200,000 email signitures. So, if you have not done so yet go visit tollgatepetition, and only if you AGREE to what they state on the site, please add your email address as siginiture. Please also forward to friends and family who might not know about it. As a side note.... My dad told me that in the Netherlands the government also tried to toll their citizens on highways between major centres, and the people made themselves heard, and the response was so overwhelming, that they had to completely scrap the tolling system. (Note: This is hearsay... and I have not verified the information) Happy caching!
