  1. Anything more on this I think would become a "blame game", so I'll leave the results where they are. I think 99% of the "duplicate logs" are all fair use of duplication.
  2. The distances are only based on "Found it" and "Attended" logs, and is for Southern Africa only. I am sure I am missing lots of logs though, as I only get the last 5 logs per pocket query. To mitigate this I try and run it on Saturday and Sunday then again on Wednesday, thus getting 3 sets of South Africa logs per week. I run our neighbouring countries only once a week. So as soon as a cacher has left Southern Africa to go cache, the distance will be wrong. I also ordered the results first by Date, and then LogID (Each log we make gets a unique ID associated with it) Then I calculate using the specified formula the distance between the cache and the previous cache (for the same user ID of course) So the distance is as the crow flies from Cache Find to Cache Find. I had a total of 227,999 entries in Excel which Excel had to calculate a distance for. It slowed my machine right down to a crawl.
  3. I took the challenge, and came up with a result. However I could not use a pure SQLite solution, and had to copy the basic results into a spreadsheet, and do some trigonometry functions from there. Here is the Distance Calculations I used. If there is a better one please let me know, and I'll re-calculate. The combined total distance every cacher in Southern Africa has travelled is 11,590,239.73 km. The top 100 distance cachers are (and I added Porky2 and their position as they requested the stats): ......drum roll...... Pos, Distance, Name 1 246,366.41 Tricky Vicky & Mickey ..... 64 26,323.04 DamhuisClan ...... 175 7,262.67 PORKY2 If anybody would like the spreadsheet let me know and I'll email it to you. As an interesting side note, I use a program called FizzyCalc to calculate my Cache to Cache distance, on a seperate spreadsheet. I just updated it and that distance is 25,936.94 .... so for me the above stats are out by about 400 km.
  4. Correct. First ordered it by Date, and then by LogID, both in Ascending order.

  6. Some fluffy white plants grow in the area.
  7. Hi, I only have stats for inside SA, but that would mean it will be sustainability within SA, which is fine. I have done the first run (thanks to Anton for the data. I am just working on the SF formula to make it a better representation of the Sustainability, will post results before Monday DRDM & Raider is 100 % correct. We only have data for South Africa. In fact I now have the data for Southern Africa. So the stats can only reflect this.
  8. Hi Porky2 This would be very difficult, as I am not sure how to track the exact order of the caches. If the order wasn;t an issue, then the co-ord to distance calcultion becomes an issue. I have tried in the past to see if I could calculate it in Excel using Sin, Cos, and Tan, but could not get reliable distances. Maybe one day when I am bored, and up to date with everything I can have another go at it.
  9. This factor does not seem fair though... paddawan should be higher up then Madsons. as he is more sustainable (offered more to the community over a longer period. Suggestions?
  10. Ok, I removed 'E' and 'C' type caches. In the case of no archived caches , I just take the total divided by the number of years.
  11. Methinks Anton, that you should exclude 'event' type caches - e.g. CITO and events. My 2c. PT Happiness. I have changed that now, but now iPajero falls through the cracks, as their one cache was an event which was archived. And now that 0 div something give a ration of 0. Not sure how to correct this. Suggestions?
  12. Lets try and answer the "Total" portion of the question first. then I'll try and refine it a little further: I fear though that if no caches have been archived then that person does not show up so the "Ratio" or "Sustainability factor" needs to be refined.
  13. I had a quick look last night, I have the numbers, but there seems to be a problem with the final calculation as Archived is sometime 0 (zero), and it seems my current query is only returning whole numbers (even after the calculation). I' hope to look at it in more detail tonight.
  14. I happen to have one of those caches. Again in PE. Its Recife Vista (GCRT26) As per the cache listing, if one found the old cache at the old location one could find it again at the new location. I also claimed a FTF for the find at the new location... Seems like all the strange caches happens for me in PE.
  15. I was at Garmin SA the other day to get my new replacement eTrex Legend from an insurance claim, and asked them when they will receive the new eTrex range. "What new eTrex range?" I was asked. "The new 10, 20 and 30 eTrex", I answered/ "Never heard of it" was the reply. Other then that I had great service from Garmin, and had good assistance from them unlocking my new 2011.1 topo & rec map. Just a pity that there was a muggle selling wares next to the cache close by.
  16. If Danie doesn't beat me to it, I can have a look. Should be easy with SQLite.
  17. There are some exceptions to the rule I think: Exception 1: I have found a cache a long time ago, and then later adopted it. Then I have "found" my own cache from the adoption Possible Exception 2: I had a cache in PE, which I wanted to archive. I received a request from someone who wanted to adopt it, which we did as well. Then the cache was moved, due to it being muggled often. I think.. since it is in a new location that I can "find" it now. As it is a legitimate search for the cache. BTW: I still need to go and find it.. possibly on my next trip to PE. Any comments?
  18. Yep I like mine current eTrex Legend as well. When I got off the bike the other day, it fell, and somehow the power switch broke. Took it to Garmin for a quote, and they don't repair but will replace it with a new unit for R950.00. That is a new unit, and they transfer my current 2009 maps to the new unit (I don't get 2011 maps) So now I am ooh-ing and ahh-ing if I should not maybe spend the extra R900.00 and just buy a new one with the new maps, or maybe wait a little bit, and spend even more and get one of the eTrex 10 coming out soon. I wonder when they will arrive in South Africa.
  19. Garmin have just released a new version of the eTrex range of GPSes. All the details here
  20. Perhaps a "Maintenance log" can be counted as a "Find" in this case?
  21. Will the coin be exactly the same? Or a small change like maybe the minted year?\
  22. I am in for a full set as well.
  23. Maybe somehow he crossed the line before the horse did?
