  1. I agree!! I have the same problem. I don't understand. I just bought a new smart phone and downloaded the app from gc.com. I was excited about using it. Lucky for me a new cache was published and I desided to go for it. When I got to GZ the compass was jumping all over. Lucky in the discription it gave a clue on where it was. Looked like it was about 35 feet away from where my compass was trying to (jump around) point. This compass is nothing like the iphone. I was so excited on getting this phone to use this app. Please could you fix this problem. Trimble never had this problem!
  2. Well, I finally made it to visit Earlhop. I remembered he had it on his computer. Anyone interested in another good benchmarking located on google earth check out. NGSCS
  3. Last year I found a program that I could upload to my Google Earth program. It would show all the benchmarks in the area (published on gc.com or not). I was hoping someone could guide me in the right direction to where I could possible download it again into my new computer. Everything was lost when my old computer crashed. Thanks in advance!! Linda mtbikedirtygirl
  4. Maybe they should up the ante on the $250.00 fine on the bench marks.....
  5. Here is a picture of a Gage Station BM we found near to GC17W8F. Thought it was so cool that I took a few pictures. This is a picture of Earlhop at the Station. Gage Station Bench mark is circled in yellow. This is a picture of sign on station door. Picture of Gaging Station Bench mark close up
  6. I wish the same here. I looked for two bench marks today in the snow with no luck...Duh!!
  7. I did have this happen to me about a year ago on a DNF log. I don't remember getting a notification then. I have a lot of caches on my watch list and get a lot of notifications. I enjoy reading them so I don't think I had one of mine deleted. Also I number my finds on the cache page. This helps me reference the cache. Also, now I know another good reason for it. "If one of my logs were to get deleted." At lease it would be easier for me to locate it. I'm still waiting on a phone call from him to see if he found a notification. I do think it was one of those 10 days we didn't cache together. So I will be concentrating on those days today.
  8. Well, I sat down today at his house and compared our CacheStats by date. We had about 10 days within that time we didn't cache together. It is a baffle to me. I have even done a map search and tried to see caches that I knew we got together. I still didn't see anything. Although I just called him and asked him to check his spam email. He can't remember getting a notification in his regular email account. You have helped me though....I'm fixin' to roll up my sleeves a bit more...lol!! I'm going to try and spend more time on this tomorrow and see if I can get to the root of it. I'll just have to wait to hear back from him and see if he found a email. Thanks so much for your suggestions.
  9. I really love finding old BM's. While searching for one near the Cherokee Mueseum on the Reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina I stumbled upon a HUGE boundry marker. It is one of the Qualla Indian Boundry marker, and was unlisted. I listed it on the Waymarking site, but it has a twin that is a listed BM in Soco Gap. I always take a close up with my GPS for reference. I found another pipe cap marker last sunday in a National Forest while Waymarking an old abandoned cemetery. There is also a NFS Bearing Tree near the marker. I just think that they are really cool, so I list them on the Waymarking site. That seems to be the only place that I can share my finds with the public. I'm so sorry....I ment Waymark on my prev. post. I totally agree...I also do the same. Unlike the McD's Waymarking. I only post Benchmarks when found unpublished too. I have only two...I will only post waymark bm if I think they are safe for children. My father and I found a BM near his house. We placed a geocache near it and called it "Good place for a BM". Geocachers are getting a kick out of it.
  10. Oooooops.....I ment "WHO" deleted the log and why? My father loves geocaching. He worked hard to have his mile stones from 900 all to be earthcaches every 100th cache after that. But, a CO of one of the cachers between his 1000th milestone and 1100th earthcache has deleted one of his log. He said he never got a notice that his log has been deleted. He would never log a cache that he didn't find. How can I go about finding out how and why it was deleted. I just don't understand why CO's can do this without notification to the cacher. Could someone please guide me on the right direction. We know it was between 7/25/2010 and 8/31/2010. Most of the caches we find together. But, every once and awhile he will go out on his own. I just don't get it or understand.
  11. Here is some pictures of my 'Good Day' on January 2nd. I have been wanting to find this Bench mark (EF0602) for about a year now. Thanks to a newly published cache on that day, near by about 2 miles down the road. Gave me a good reason to come by this area. The Google map said it was deep in the woods. So I decided to load the coords in my GPS and read the description good and head out. As I walked around the gate I seen the mile marker 335 and knew it was near by. First place I looked I found this. EF0602 was placed sometime in the late 1880 or 1890s. I'm still looking up information on it. Last found in 1982 (I found it 29yrs and 1 day to the date). EF0602 Don't believe these "X's" mean anything. But, was really weird and interesting to see them carved into the rock. EF0603 was placed in 1949 and last found also in 1982(I found it 29yr and 1 day to date) (I'm sure by the same surveyor). Here is the location of both markers. I found 3 bench marks that day. These two I was FTF geocacher to log on the BM page. (I also was FTF on that new geocache) EF0602 has got to be my favorite to date!! With all that said.....It was a 'Good Day' for me......Hopefully will be a 'Good Year' too!
  12. I also would love bench marks to be counted on my finds. But, can totally understand why they are not. Example: I found a cache called "Close to the Mark" GCNDDC next to Wilson Dam in Colbert co. Alabama. The cache is located near a TVA bench mark. Cachers are logging this bench mark into EF1009. I have even gone as far as to make a Waypoint for it. One cacher even went as far as to copy and paste the picture I posted on the cache page to claim the find on the Benchmark page. It is sad that they don't read the whole description before placing the log find. When I find a bench mark. I try and take pictures of the mark and surrounding area (points of interest), and to get the best coord reading from my GPS to post. So far to date bench marks has to be my favorite thing to do out of all geocaching has to offer.
  13. Thank you so much moloser for all the informaion on this marker. It will keep me busy for a little while. I do believe that this is P 2. I found EF0602 D 315/1949 just down the track. They are both located as per the discription on the original data sheet. I have attached another picture I took of the location. You can see the mile marker 335 in this photo. I want to thank you so much for the information. Also, Your right it is a bolt "oops". Still new to bench marking and still learning. But, I sure do love it. Happy New Year! Sure is weird that those "X's" are there. But, I fully agree. They must mean nothing. Just happy to find this one.
  14. I have been wanting to get this benchmark for a long time. Didn't think I would find it. But, this might be my lucky year. EF0602 P 2 (Monumented unknow year by CGS). Maybe someone here can give me a guess. This is my favorite BM to date. You can see the spike location. US is located above and BM is located below it. This is another view of the two "X's" The benchmark is located on top of this rock. I noticed a white x painted at the base of it. It hasn't been found since 1982. another view of the benchmark spike
  15. Thank you so much DavidD. I contacted the locat chapter here in the Tenn Valley on www.aspls.org. I got a response almost immediately. Then shortly after the email got a phone call from a gentleman that works at the local PLSS. He has invited me to come down to his office and look at the information he has. I am so honored and excited. Looks like I do have a lot of research ahead of me. I am so looking forward to learning more about this great surveyor (Major Thomas Freeman) and hopefully finding some mark he has monumented. Thanks again!!!
  16. Thank you all so much for the reserach information. I think/hope it will help me. I have done alot of research so far on Thomas Freeman, James Weakley and John Coffee. Although Thomas Freeman has been my main interest. I infact have placed a geocache in honor of Thomas Freeman Grand-Daddies of my addiction in Alabama. There has been so much work that has gone into monumenting these benchmarks and I think that they should be points of interest to cachers to honor. Since of course I think the paved the road for geocaching. Thanks again for all the information. I know it will be helpful.
  17. Is there anyway a everyday Jo-geocacher can find out whom placed the Benchmarks that being recovered. I can't find anything on the data sheets to help. I am really interested in finding out if there are any benchmarks still in exsistence that Thomas Freeman placed in the Tenn valley. More or less in Huntsville alabama (Madison County). The Meridian line benchmark that was located on the Tenn/Alabama line has long since been destroyed. But, I am aware that he has place more then just that bm. He also cut the state in half with the Freeman line. I would be so grateful if I could find the Freeman line benchmark(s) he placed too. But, with that said, it would be awesome to be able to know whom placed the benchmarks. Linda mtbikedirtygirl aka: MBDG
  18. I can't find out much information about the DEFY. But, I like the fact that it has 4G. Knowing the iphone does so well with 4G, I hope this is compatable to it. Didn't know it was waterproof. That is a plus and great to know! I'm not in to much of a hurry for my new smartphone. Looking at getting one in the next couple of months. I'm hopping it will be out by then. So I can go to t-mobile to preview it. Thanks for the input.
  19. Well, thanks for all the info. I have been compairing phones on T-mobile. I have never used Android Apps. Although family members have the iphone. I see that Android are just like the apps for the iphone. Like i stated before I do have a Blackberry and use the Trimble GeoNavigator app. I see that T-mobile has these few Smart phones: Samsung Vibrant, T-mobile G2 w/google and Motorola DEFY-(which has not be released yet-but coming soon) and I'm also thinking about the Blackberry Bold-9700. I am aware of how good my Trimble GeoNavigator works on my BB. So any input about the geocaching app on Android (tree cover, on mountain cover, out of wi-fi cover any info like that) would help me. Also, any information you can give me about your experiance with the pre said Smartphones would help me out a lot. Thanks in advance. Linda
  20. I am hoping I can get some insight on what I should do next. I was looking through some threads on GC.com and I came across threads about API. I currently have a Blackberry and have been using the Trimble GeoNavigator App. I have really been pleased with it. My brother and father have a iphone and I'm not so happy with the GC app that they use. The only thing I do like is being able to pull up the map on the app that shows you all the near by cache from your location. Unfortunately Trimble dose not have this feature. So now I'm in search of a new phone. Not wanting the iphone and having T-mobile as my provider. I was hoping I could get some feed back on what phones are out there that would be a good option for me to use. I am not so familiar with API. But, looking at the app for geocaching it might be a good fit for me. Any info would be great. If I'm placing this thread in the wrong section. I'm truly sorry! Just hoping someone out there can give me some help in this matter. Thanks in advance !
