If you turn off the compass until you need to take a bearing, it'll save the batteries. Does the Phone Home holder allow you to plug the unit into the 12v cord? How's the Topo software for major surface streets and secondary roads? I just bought the 76S and am disappointed in the base map accuracy. Thanks, KacheKrew
