  1. Well I'll certainly admit that "That Is Cool ! " Care to make a little step by step on how you did it for those of us who are a little slower ?
  2. Thank you all for some great information. It is very helpful in getting my planning done for the trip. Regards, Tim
  3. Is there a way to actually load these on to the 76CSx ? Or do you have to keep it hooked up the the laptop ? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the info..... It looks like I may invest in the most up-to-date 24k maps from Garmin and anything else I can get my hands on. We're going to book the houseboat for 3 days in the middle of FEBRUARY ! Ya... I know... C-O-L-D. Looks like the average high temp in Feb. is 56 degrees. At least it is "Budget Season" and rates are lower. It would be really nice to get the houseboat that has a hot tub on it... but there are only 4 of us and the "Luxery" houseboats are by the week only AND very expensive if you only have 4 people. Our plan is to pick up in Wahweap and get to the Rainbow Bridge ASAP.... after that. just cruise and enjoy the sights.
  5. That graphic is exactly what I'm looking for.... no... it's BETTER than what I'm looking for. So... where do I find that and load it onto my 76CSx and/or Oregon 400t ?
  6. So true with the droughts. I remember the lake and seeing boats dry grounded because the water level was so low. Now, is Lake Meat rare or medium well these days? I know Lake Powell was down a couple of years ago by something like 37 feet or so. From what I've read lately, it's come back up a good bit because of a big winter snow pack melt. There is one of the "cuts" on the waterway that had been closed for 4-5 years due to low water that is now open and saves about 12 miles in transit since you can use it now. But the levels are still down so much that a several Marinas and ramps are still closed.
  7. It's about the depth but more importantly it's about the marker's and any other specific "water" features.
  8. Ya... I guess that may be what I have to do. Does that one show the markers too ? And What is the difference between the cartridge(mem stick) that has the 3-4 separate regions -vs- the one DVD that has the entire US ? They are about the same price but the DVD would be usable with MapSource.
  9. I did take a look at GPSFILEDEPOT too and I don't see anything that is as detailed as regular charts. It is geared toward TOPO.... I actually have the Garmin TOPO 2008 and it's about the same.
  10. Hi Scott. Ya... I did a google search.... several times... and did run across that web site which got me to look into the Navionics charts. Problem is.... although the Navionics look like they are really good and very detailed and exactly what I am looking for.... they are not compatible with the Garmin units. I'd be happy as a clam if I could find something comparable to those Navionics charts. The GPSFILEDEPOT stuff is OK.... but still more akin to TOPO and not so much for Water navigation. I prefer something that has the markers and marine points noted. Oddly... I have the old Garmin Bluecharts "Fishing HotSpots" and it shows markers on it and POI's on the water... but the Old Garmin "Inland Lakes" I have does not show any of them. I may have to buy the latest inland lakes from Garmin... but I still would not be real happy with the level of detail compared to their regular Bluecharts.
  11. I am planning to rent a houseboat and cruise Lake Powell for about 3 days. I have a 76CSx. Problem is... I can't seem to locate any specific water navigation charts proper for Lake Powell. I can't really tell if the Garmin Bluecharts Inland Lakes have any worthwhile chart for Lake Powell or not and I don't want to plop down good money for something that is useless for Lake Powell. Does anyone have any experience with charts for Lake Powell ? Thanks.
  12. When are you going to fix the zoom & detail level display on the new 7x5 8x5 series nuvi's ? It stinks compared to the way the 7x0 8x0 nivi displayed the details of roads and poi's.
  13. I am trying to transfer my New Map Update to my nuvi780 using the transfer utility on MapSource and I get an error message from Mapsource that there is not enough room on the GPS to send the maps. The transfer is about 1299MB and the unit has 2GB of internal memory. It "currently" has about 48MB "Free" because it has the older map in the unit memory. I thought MapSource would just automatically overwrite the old maps to install the new. Apparently I was wrong or something has changed. So.... in order to send the update to my GPS what exactly should I delete from the GPS to make room ? Is it "gmapprom.img" only ? I see another one called "gmapprom.sum" too, do I need to delete that one too or just the map img file ? Thanks for the help.
  14. I own a Colorado 400t and inquired about getting the DVD from Garmin. I just got an e-mail response...they want to charge me $40 + tax + shipping for the Topo DVD!!! Guess what my response was. I have a pretty good guess...... But try calling back and see what the next rep has to say.... the response seems to change from one rep to another.
  15. I just popped the Cartography Dept an email with a request. The cust. rep was nice enough, but I think it was beyond her comprehension that she could burn a DVD for me with the update and send it to me. After all... she DID offer to mail me a DVD with version 2010.10. Maybe she just plain old didn't know that it'se to burn a single DVD and not have to wait for the factory pump them out. Thanks
  16. Hi Everybody ! Thanks for all of the great responses and information. It would be nice if Garmin gave us the ability to take the maps from the GPS.... they are locked to that specific device anyway and it would save everybody time and money... oh well..... But when I registered my new GPS, I was given the opportunity to do a "Free" update/upgrade. But I was disappointed because: 1.) I have a nuvi 775t with BOTH NA & Europe maps pre-loaded, but Garmin only allows you to update/upgrade one or the other.. not both maps. Why ? I don't know..... If the idea is to give you the latest maps for your device and I paid MORE money to get a GPS with both maps, I would think they would let you do a one time update of both. 2.) The update/upgrade order screen gave me the option to order a DVD of the updat eor a download.... I tried for days to order the DVD and Garmin's system kept crashing on me and I finally called Support who told me that they would send me a DVD (for $10).. BUT... the DVD you only have CNN2010.1 and NOT the latest 2010.2... so what good is that ? ! I think Garmin should have burned a DVD for me with the latest update. Their Cartography Dept has done this in the past. But I have always had a better, more satisfying, response with Cartography than their regular cust. svc. So I think I will go ahead and buy the lifetime update for both NA and Eur and be done with it...... unfortunately it still does not solve the problem of the DVD for MapSource. I hold out hope that the DVD with 2010.2 will be available before my free update expires.
  17. Matt, Thanks for the help. Regards, Tim
  18. I have a nuvi 775t that comes with the CNNA maps as well as the European Maps. Garmin does not send a MapSource DVD with the units. So how in the world am I supposed to use the maps with Mapsource ? When I used mapsource to try to "transfer" the maps to MapSource, it told me the unit had no maps. Whats the secret ? I'm certainlyt not trying to do anything illegal.... I already have the maps.... I already have the latest MapSource and all I want to do is use them on MapSource. Thanks for any help.
  19. I have tried and tried to use the searchg function on the forum and I never have any luck. It either says I have made an error or not enough words or some sort of problem. What's the secret ? I use search on other boards without a problem. I'm feeling rather dumb right now. Thanks
  20. My wife is going to Greece in a couple of weeks and she wants to take a GPS with her to help her get around... driving AND walking. Has anyone put the City Navigator Maps on their Oregon 400 units yet ? Particularly Europe... but I'd be interested to know how either the European or North American City Navigator maps perform on the Oregon before I drop the money to by the maps for it. Thanks.
  21. UPDATE: I don't know WHY... but I was able to use my home PC to get the webupdater to work. I'm up to date.
  22. Well... I just got off the phone with Garmin. First rep listened to my problem and had me try a few simple things, which I had ALREADY don on my own, and then he transferred me to "Software". The poor guy had me do everything I had already done again, and a few other things. End results... after TWO HOURS..... he suggested I send them to Garmin for repair or replacement. He said he had never had a case like this. While I was on the phone wiht him, I plugged in my 76CSx and my 400t and both units came up as the "Garmin Drive". But the 775t units would not show a Garmin drive..... at first they showed two removable drives... the SD card slot and something else... but no Garmin drive. I would say it's a flaky units if it was only one unit, but it was TWO BRAND NEW units. There has got to be more to it than defective units as they acted exactly the same.
  23. I tread the thought of being on hold.... I have done a google search and came up empty.....
  24. Hi. I have been trying to do a software/firmware update on my nuvi775t. t still has SW V 2.3 on it and needs to updated to the latest v 3.6. I have it connected to my USB and it goes into the Mass Storage Mode. I then start WebUpdater and it sees the unit and reports it as "Garmin G: ". It then will tell me the latest update is 3.6 and I try to get it to load on the unit and it stalls and tells me it failed because of an "I/O Device Error". I have made numerous attempts and it ends each time with the same I/O Device Error message. Any ideas ??? Thanks
