  4. Good news that Geocrats and Liveonces's TB's have both turned up safe and well, but going in the wrong direction..........in Arizona. Great to see that they haven't gone missing! It's anyones race, But Nana TB has made it to Europe (UK) and is in the hands of a cacher who says he'll be stopping over in the UAE soon........ The chequered flag cache has been loaded with a small prize and coords are ready to be posted when we see the first bug make it into the UAE.........Good luck

  7. Morning all, I'm just back in the UAE and pleased to say the bugs were released in Florida on 22/7 at the TB Hotel I4-Hw27 (GCR17M) Unfortunately geocrats is missing already, but I'm sure all logs will get updated and bugs will surface soon. The race website will be updated soon and I will post updates on this forum also. Happy caching - the cad's
  8. All TB's received now, present and correct! We will prepare tags & photos and bug bio's etc and advise all racers at the start of July. I'm not sure about the choice of some peoples race cars......Fancy pink paint jobs, go faster stripes and lots of chrome......Hmmm! LOL You may have the advantage with American Cachers there......but I'm banking on our clasic understated sports elegance tempting cachers when the bugs make it to european shores!! We are working on a release date around Independence Day Weekend, Most likely somewhere up the west coast of Florida, but we'll keep you posted before then Happy caching - The CAD's

  12. Just a quick note to UAE cachers - The Cad's are setting up a travel bug race to be released at the start of July in Florida to come through Europe to the UAE. There are 7 bugs so far , attached to model cars with race instructions representing players in the UAE and UK. There are 2 reasons for this post on the Arabian Penninsula Forum firstly - we have prepared a "checkered flag cache" which will be stashed in the UAE with coordinates only posted on the TB tracking pages for each bug. This Checkered flag cache will be the finish line for the race and will contain a modest race winners support team prize for the cacher that manages to drop the first of our racing bugs into this final location cache. Once the race is won and the Checkered flag prize has been claimed, we will publish the cache as normal, as a general TB Hotel. Secondly, If anyone else from the UAE would like to join the race, you're very welcome - You just need to supply a TB (we have lots of extra cars!) and we will attach our standard laminated race instructions with your team / cacher name on and release it with the group to start the race in about 5 weeks time. For everyone else - please keep an eye out for our racing bugs arriving back in the UAE in cache near you. Happy caching! The CAD's
  13. Unfortunately, we'll be away most of the summer! But feel free to PM when you are accross on the off chance and I'd be happy to meet up if we're around at that time - I've still got loads of caches left to do in the UAE and Oman and it's a great way to see the region. Caching in the summer is hard going out here though - Mornings and evenings only for the ones that require a bit of legwork. All the best - The Cad's
  14. No, I have the same Venture CX as a handheld 2nd unit I've have had no problems like revolving mapping. It's a very good little unit actualy. There's v little noticable map drift when stationary in a working unit either and if you've set North up and wiped & reinstalled your mapping, I would say you have a dodgy Monday Morning unit. Garmin should swap it out
  15. Hi all, We were the opposite way round actually. 3-4 years ago I was working in Saudi Arabia and at that time, acurate navigation was prudent during periods of hightened security, and a GPS unit was standard issue in the region. We were taught how to use old magellans by the military then my company issued us newer, map based Garmins and we were back to be trained in "GPS applications" by a bloke from Garmin out from the US. which involved loading up maps and keeping our way point & track lists uncluttered so we could quickly select and navigate to secure locations - It was all very serious stuff taught by a very serious chap. and then.... One of the lads came accross Geocaching as an alternative use of the equipment .........and all thoughts of security dispaeared!! We gassed up the landcruisers and screamed around the desert looking for tupperware boxes!! I'm still amazed how many caches there were in Saudi even at that time, (as usual hiden by the same dedicated people - Thanks M&M's et al) We saw beautifull aspects of the country that I bet many (non caching) visitors to Saudi never see and we generaly had a balll! So when the time came for me to move on from Saudi, I handed back my company issued GPS and left behind my desert mates, but it wasn't long before I realised I was missing something in life.......... After a brief spell back in the UK, we came out to the UAE and quickly bought a new Garmin unit, registered an account on here ourselves and started logging our finds. As a family we've logged just 17 finds since last summer so we're certainly newbies, but as you all know, once your hooked, you're hooked!
  16. Hi DT, Yes, I noticed this last year when we had a drive accross to Muscat for the first time from AD. I now upload all of the UAE AND Oman caches into a single loc file periodically so I can view both countries caches on the same map. We camped north of Al Ain last weekend, on the UAE side (We had some friends with dogs who didn't wan't the hassle of crossing the border into Oman) and that is a major fence that has gone up through the mountains. I also think it would be wise to list caches more strictly by country now, as visitors from some countries can have difficulty exiting the UAE and re-entering on visit visa's
