  1. I currently use a 2-AA Maglite. It's incredibly durable, so probably won't need replacement any time soon. I've also got a AAA Mag and a 6-D Mag. Can someone compare the LED lights to a 2-AA Mag? Right now I don't have much motivation to go and buy a new light, but if they're that good, I just might. Jamie
  2. RW, I didn't have that particular brand, but the Garmin brand cover for my eTrex. I liked that it made the GPS not so yellow, which also makes it harder to find if you lose it in the woods. I found the screen cover to cause slightly more glare on the gps screen. The buttons were slightly harder to push, sometimes the cover would twist out of position just a little bit. I liked the belt clip. To mount the eTrex on my bike, I had to remove it from the case, which wasn't very easy. The rubbery case of the eTrex made it hard to slide in and out of the case. It did keep my eTrex nice and clean, even when I was out in the rain and mud. Basically, if you could use the beltclip, it's worth it. If you don't need the belt clip, there's no reason to make the buttons less accesible and the screen harder to read. The rugged construction of the eTrex make a cover sort of redundant. Jamie

  4. No find, in my mind. Good story, but no find. I find it amusing that after reading yrium's two-pager, here is the next log: "Took nothing and left nothing. Interesting location!" Doh! Jamie
  5. Oh yeah... RHS... 'Fore I forget. Maybe. Ask the pilot as you board the plane. Jamie
  6. Dave, I doubt anyone was offended, but when I read about the park personnel actually emailing Jeremy with their request for the cache to be removed, that says to me that the park rangers have some respect for geocachers. With park rangers who seem willing to accept geocaching (under certain conditions) I think it's a good idea to discuss rehiding with them, rather than undermining their good faith attempts to keep geocaching impact to a minimum. I'm sure that you tried to find a good place for your cache, Dave... unfortunately, the folks in charge thought differently, so I think it would be prudent to go to the folks in charge and get their opinion of a good hiding spot. I see a win-win situation waiting. Jamie
  7. Ultimav... Just tried the Yahoo! trick, but it didn't work for me. I'm looking under Yahoo! Maps, but when I enter an address the URL only contains that address, no coords. What am I doing wrong? Jamie

  9. Dave, Rather than trying to find a location where you won't be "caught," don't you think you ought to speak to the rangers about your cache? Inquire if there are any locations they might suggest. I'm very impressed that someone at the park took the time to email Jeremy with their concerns, rather than simply putting the cache in the nearest dumpster. I think you should return the favor by discussing caching openly with the park rangers to see if a compromise can be reached. If the rangers were to find another cache that was placed without permission, they might not be so nice about it. Jamie

  14. LS, You must have used the force to write that message... it's utterly similar to this thread. Jamie Oh yeah... and yes, I have.
  15. Good idea, if it didn't use up Jeremy's time or space. Jamie
  16. quote:Originally posted by Warm Fuzzies - Fuzzy: ...you want to add "not found" to the list of stats? Aren't you afraid that will just encourage people to delete their not-found logs, or never make them in the first place? Hmmm, unfortunately, you have a good point. If this were my perfect world, everyone would post their not-founds and that would show up on their profile... I guess I've been a big proponent of people logging not founds, and since making that information public would discourage some folks from doing just that, I retract my suggestion. I do think there should be that sort of info for the each cache, though. Jamie (8 not-founds)

  18. Mine was Geocache. I searched three times before I found it. What made it really difficult is that unbeknownst to me, the nearby lake was flooded and covered the trail normally leading to the cache, so I had to bushwack for 3/4 of a mile over very rough terrain. Gullies and ravines galore. When I went back the third time, the trail was exposed, but covered with mud. Still, it was easier (but not as fun) than slogging straight through the woods. Jamie
  19. RedwoodRed composed a fantastic letter a few months back and posted it on the old forums. I did a search recently to locate it, but I couldn't. I emailed Red to see if she still had it on file, but she couldn't locate it either. If someone has a copy of her letter, I think it would fit here well. Jamie
