  1. Compare the two units by following this link. Half way down the page there is a tan/orange highlighted section. Your answer is there. You know, I saw that but didn't think that was the answer. Why?? I had read something someone had said about some sensors and thought was what the "s" in CSX stood for, but didn't find anything about a sensor so I was still looking. I understand the use of a compass and/or altimeter. On a scale of 1-10 how useful do you think it is to have it on the unit as opposed to a stand alone item for that? That's probably a dumb question to some, but I'm trying to decide it it's worth the extra for the CSX as opposed to the CX. I'm working at the upper limit of my GPS budget and "can" go that little bit more if I can convince myself it's worth it.
  2. I'm trying to figure out the difference between a 60CX and a 60CSX. My brain may be my problem, but I dont' seem to be able to get a good handle on the difference. I've searched it on the forum archive, but haven't found it. So can/would someone please enlighten me? Thanks
  3. I now have $300 to shop with and want to know what everybody's suggestions are now. What are your intended uses (all of them, dig deep)? Geocach 80% Driving 10% Hunting/Fishing/Hiking 10% These are estimates
  4. I"ve been on this board before, but finances kept me from being able to go beyond wishing if you know what I mean. But Ol' Santa brought me a GPS this year in the form of cash to go shopping with. Good man that Santa!!! I now have $300 to shop with and want to know what everybody's suggestions are now. Color, external antenna, etc. Man oh man..... I'm really going to get to do this now. And just in time for my retirement next week. Thanks folks.
  5. What condition, how old, anything with it, shipping time if not in US, etc.??
  6. I'm even "newer" than you. I'm here with a friends Foretrex 101 trying to figure out how to enter coordinates. I haven't found one yet, much less hid one. But I will..................... I read the answers and found myself wondering if you, or anyone else for that matter, has ever used, or thought about, something like a "gillie net." If you're not familiar with that it's a form of camoflague used by the military and hunters that has all different sizes, types, colors, etc. of pieces of stuff hanging off it. It seems to work great for them. A piece of that, or something homemade, "might" work!!!???
  7. Folks I realize this is probably one of those questions that you folks who have been around this for a while will roll your eyes to the ceiling on and say what planet did that *&&^^%% come from. But.......... My friend has loaned me his Foretrex 101 to let me experiment with. I know the first thing somebody is going to say is ask the friend what to do. But, I'm not all that sure he would know either. He bought it, used it sparingly and had it packed away when he loaned it to me. Anyway, I'm sitting here wanting to try to find my first cache with it and find I don't really know how to enter the coordinates from a cache that I picked out from geocaching.com My friend didn't remember what he did with the manual so I downloaded a copy of it from the Garmin site. I've read and it would seem that the way to do it would be to mark a waypoint and then go back and edit the coordinates to match the cache I want to find. I didn't find a way to just enter the coordinates without doing that. But when I try to edit them, the available numbers don't go high enough. Example: The cache I'm wanting to try is GCW2VJ. The listed coordinates are N 35deg 40.791 W 080deg 27.971 When I try to edit, I can do fine until I get to the number to the right of the decimal point in the listing and the numbers on the Foretrex only go as high as 5 on both coordinates. What am I doing wrong? I've sit here this afternoon and have tried and tried this with no luch. I've read different parts of the manual, but no luck. I realize it's probably something that I am not doing or not doing right, but dang it I don't know enough at this point to realize what it is. Help!!!
  8. I'm sorry..... Let me clarify..... What I meant to say, and didn't, was that the GPSMAP60's screen looked sharper than the Legend's judging from the pictures on the website.
  9. I've been looking at a GPSMAP60 as a possible purchase for a first time GPS. I'd been looking at the Legend too. I understand the difference in the price with the 60 roughly a hundred more. Is the 60 worth the extra hundred? In the pictures, it looks as though the 60's screen is clearer, but that's only from looking at the pictures. The 60 being able to handle an external antenna is attractive, but I don't know how much that would add if any to it's use. The additional memory in the 60 speaks for itself. My looking/shopping is limited to web surfing and messages like this with responses from kind hearted folks like yourselves. I've read and read and looked and looked at the spec sheets and pictures and after a while it gets mind boggling. Thus I'm limited to relying on information I can gather since there's no way I know of to try these things. I value very highly you folks comments. This will probably be the only GPS I will be able to purchase for a long time and want to make the best choice.
  10. and the current headaches. As far as the B&W Legend being the "best no frills geocaching GPS around", I'm just going to smile and walk away. [ Why??
  11. Well folks, there is a new GPS in my near future. My birthday is next month. My wife asked me this morning what I wanted and I told her money toward a new GPS. She said OK. We have an 8 year old grandson that she thinks would enjoy it too which may have helped. I'll take it. So my question to you folks is this. What GPS would you buy and why? I realize there is a wide range of prices here. I'm probably not necessarity looking at the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive either. I looked this week at Circuit City and they had three handhelds. They had the yellow Etrex for $99, the blue Etrex Legend for $149, and the Magellan 210 for $149. I'd like to stay in that $150 range if possible, but wouldn't rule out a "little bit" higher. So in an effort to get the most and, best I can for my available amount, I"d appreciate your telling me what you would suggest and why. I value your experience and knowledge. Thanks
