  1. Hooray.... With just a few hours to spare we have managed to beat our annual geocache finds record. 152 finds in a year - nothing compared to some, but still a record for us. http://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2015/geocaching-records-2015/ Al.
  2. Just answering my own question after reading the New Years Eve email from Groundspeak which states: "If you’ve already found a geocache in any of these countries, you’ll automatically receive the souvenir on your profile after all of the new souvenirs have been announced. " So, yes, they will be back-dated.... Nice!! Al.
  3. Do Country Souvenirs get back-dated? i.e. I found some geocaches in Slovenia a few years back, will I get the Slovenia Country souvenir, or do I have to go back to Slovenia and find a new cache to get it? Would be kind of nice if they were back-dated as the souvenirs then provide you with a nice 'souvenir' of all the countries you've cached in. Al.
  4. Here you go... blog post about our final cache of the 2015 Road Trip souvenirs: http://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2015/geocaching-road-trip-2015/ Al.
  5. Some days we go for records, quite often it is the fact that we might be beating a record that motivates my 10 year son off of the computer and out of the house - It's not just about the numbers for me, but if it helps get him out geocaching then that has to be a good thing. If I ask him if he wants to walk up a big hill with me he wouldn'twant to come. If I say I've found a series of caches that might help us break this record or that record and it just so happens to involve walking up a big hill then he's more likely to want to come. Other days we might go for a 5/5 cache which usually takes a fair bit of effort for a single cache, the fact that it's a 5/5 iwll motivate him to do it though. Each has its merits and each is good fun, brings the family together and usually takes us to places we've never been before. Other days still I might head off for a 100 mile bike ride and not do a single cache - It's not all about the numbers, it's not even all about geoaching, it's just about getting out there and having fun for us and often geocaching helps with that aim however we happen to be playing the game that day. What matters to me is that we get a memorable day from it and the most memorable are those that are particularly difficult, terrain or difficultly wise, those days where we challenge ourselves to beat a record or those days where the caching takes us somewhere spectacular. Having now got our daily record of 40 as metioned in the OP, we are challenging ourselves to beat out monthly record this month too... The 40 in a day got us off to a good start and the Road Trip souvenirs have added a few more. We're up to 59 caches found so far this month now and have a target of 77. Again, not very high numbers in comparison to many, but it keeps us motivated. I don't want to completely smash our record though as we'll be wanting to beat it again sometime soon! Al.
  6. We managed to get three souvenirs in one: Put your Thinking Cap on Road Trip Souvenir Road Trip Hero Souvenir as this was the final of the road trip souvenirs for us International Geocaching Day Souvenir It wasn't planned like that it was just luck, but the cache had more than 10 favourite points as well so had we not done the Fun with Favourites souvenir already it could have been 4 in 1. Al.
  7. 130!! That's mad.... Isn't the record something like 1000 in a day though - I don't even know how that's possible and I'm sure it can't be fun! Al.
  8. It's all about the places that caches take us too as well rather than the numbers, but the numbers count as well... I don't think we'd do a series just to beat a record number of caches in a day if it weren't somewhere nice. The ones that took us to the 40 caches were along the Kerry Ridgeway, an ancient drovers route from Wales to the Market Towns of England with some absolutely amazing views. Got ourselves a few more caches yesterday as well. Only 10, but we gained the 'Lets Get Extreme' Souvenir for the Summer Road Trip which was good, and once again had some nice views of the Cardigan Bay coastline. Blog post and photos from this trip here: http://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2015/more-geocaching-records-in-aberaeron-and-aberarth/ Who knows, we might be able to beat our monthly record this month as well - it currently stands at 76, from August last year. Al.
  9. OK.. It won't set the world on fire, but we got a new daily cache record of 40 finds yesterday. An increase on our previous best of 25, and what a lovely day doing it. High up on the Kerry Ridgeway breaking our Geocaching Record. Read the full story on our weblog: Geocaching Records on the Kerry Ridgeway Just thought I'd share it with you as the route is highly recommended and we're quite pleased with our new record too. Al.
  10. I've spoken with Garmin about this and it isn't possible to send geocaches to the 910XT - The only way is to add a waypoint manually. Shame that, but I guess it isn't designed as a geocaching tool.
  11. Hmm, that's a shame - Although, I can enter a waypoint onto the 910XT manually and navigate to it without any problems - It actually works really well and seems really accurate, it's just that I'd like to be able to send the waypoint info to it without having to type them in individually. I used to be able to send geocaches to my Forerunner 305 from the geocaching.com website but that was via USB not via ANT+ - It is not possible to send them via ANT+? Al.
  12. I've been unable to send geocaches to my new Garmin Forerunner 910XT from geocaching.com... Has anyone else had any success? I send it from geocaching.com and a message says that it has been written to my device but I can't find it anywhere on the watch. If I try sending it again I get a message saying that the location already exists on the watch - it's definitely not there. I think it just gets sent to a local file on my computer rather than the watch. Can anyone help? Thanks, Al.
  13. Aber-cachers - Geocaching in Wales A group for gecoachers in Wales. We're not a huge group but since forming the number of caches in the area has increased significantly and we always welcome new members. We have only had one small meet-up so far but we were interviewed by Radio Wales a couple of weeks ago and have a full half hour show dedicated to geocaching on the radio next weekend. We also arrange travel bug races and such like and aim to promote geocaching in a safe and responsible way. See you on the hills in search of a cache soon. Al.
  14. Rutson's list for me.... We have to settle on something and that seems like a sensible list with counties that should be meaningful for most people in most situations. Al.
  15. This sounds like a great idea and if it isn't already taken I'll do Ceredigion... If thats already gone then I can do Powys instead as we live on the border of the two... The boxes are ready to go! If it is a 'British Isles' thing will the Isle of Man be included too? Al
  16. Would love to, but my Scottish Islands trip this year in April is taking in Arran, and Islay (and maybe Jura) so no time in my itinerary for Skye! I shall be hitting the caches and windsurfing / surfing whilst their... Not sure why we decided to go in April as the water will still be pretty cold! Have fun. Al.
  17. Invasion days? Sounds fun, tell me more HazelS - or have those pesky Normans landed again?!!! Invasion days are quite simply where a group of us from the NW gather together and go and "invade" an area and cache for the day... We've been to lots of places - Chorley, Wirral, Oldham, Derby, Dudley...... like i said - anyone wants to join in if we're near you, feel free! You'll have to come and invade us here in deepest darkest Wales sometime... Al.
  18. Good to see Red Kite promoting aber-cachers. The idea was really to let newbies and people visiting the area get some info from local cachers and of course to let local cachers keep in contact with each other. Hopefully at the same time we can promote responsible and safe geocaching and encourage new people to start caching. The website and aber-cachers is all very new, but so far it seems to be having a positive effect in the area. A nice little community is developing and the number of caches in the area is on the up. If there are any newbies in Wales, then feel free to take a look around, there will undoubtedly be someone there to hold your hand and help out where needed Al.
  19. As a couple of people have mentioned already I've just set up a website for geocachers in Wales, although we are of course a friendly bunch so all are welcome. I'm in the process of adding a links directory to the site with a category 'geocaching groups, clubs and associations', so if you have one or are part of one feel free to add your URL to it. Al.
  20. Wow, I've never had so many Valentines Day wishes... Happy Valentines Day to all the cachers out there... If you don't find true love today then I hope you at least find a cache! Al.
  21. I'm assuming these TB's are yours rather than someone elses that you have retrieved from a cache... So there shouldn't be any reason why you can't give them a new mission... At least thats the way I see it, but I have been wrong in the past! Al.
  22. Here's a picture someone posted to my website earlier this week from the floods in the Midlands.. Not sure if there are any caches nearby, but if so, I could attempt my first ever windsurfing cache! Al.
  23. I usually go out with my wife and (nearly) 2 year old Son. It does make caching quite a bit slower that doing it solo, but is a perfect way to have a family day out together. I've also encouraged quite a few other people to start eocaching recently so have been out with some of them lately as well.. Other times I just love the peace and solitude of a day walking in the hills with just me and my eTRex! Al.
  24. It's working well here. Al.
  25. Thanks for the replies... A puzzle cache it shall be. Al.
