I've experienced short delays (up to 1 day) a couple of times, but I've also had a couple never show up (saw the log on the page, but no email). Computers - they only do what you tell them to, not what you want them to!

I don't have any firm suggestions on order, but make sure you grab a map at the TH. It'll make life a lot easier. I've been working on waypointing all the trail intersections (at the same time getting the caches). The "TH" on 166 (end of the road, at gate) is a great place to start for Fantasy Adventure, Gnat Fest, and Long View (I think) - about a 6 mile RT. A real glutton would (from Long View) continue to Far Country, DeLeo Wall and back into the center for those caches. Craig (The Jester)

Sounds like a puzzle cache to me. In the description make it plain it is also a multi cache. Good Luck.

Actually, when King County closed the parks in 2002 it was the parking lot gates and services that were shut off. Access was not forbidden, it was stated lots of places that you could enter, just nothing was supplied (bathrooms, trash pickup, water, etc.).

Most GPSr can only handle six characters for the waypoint name (some of the newest do ten). The cyrptic name is the Geocaching waypoint name (GC - Geocache, XXXX - identifier). On any cache page hit the link "what's this?" that follows that number for more information.

Aahh, don't be such a wimp, get a thicker wetsuit! Actually, diving in Puget Sound in the winter is wonderful, it never cools down during winter (it never warms up in the summer either, but that's not what we're talking about now ).

Congrats, Mount10Bike! After a couple of weeks of late night feedings you'll be glad there aren't caches big enough to drop the the little trike, um, I mean tyke.

I've had a similar situation. One of my micro's for a multi ended up less than 50 feet from a micro cache (mine went in first, the other hider offered to re-locate but I didn't ask him too). Many people logged his with a comment that there wasn't a log so they signed the back of the stash note. I'd check every once in a while and e-mail those that I could read that they had the wrong cache. Finally when I switched to waterproof paper, I wrote - in large letters - "This is not <such and such cache> it is part of <my cache>" on the backside of the paper I used. Maybe that's all you need in the first micro. BTW, I've never had to delete a log, but I did encrypt one for plainly stating where the cache was exactly! Added a note to explain why I did it.

An interesting note, in Renton the parks are all labeled "closes 1/2 hour after sunset" but don't say when they open...

There's at least one in Western Washington. It was so well done - straw sticking out the 'hole' and all - that I looked at it twice (then searched every bush for 50' around) before I saw the gc.com logo faintly printed on the bottom.

I'm very glad I heard about this game, and was able to particitape. I had a lot of fun, and a few nights of staying up too late to see what we were going to do! I agree with CachinCin, I'd like to put faces with all the names I kept seeing. Thanks for a good game. When does round IV start?

Just a quick thought: If multi's are allowed, does the potato have to be placed in the cache, or could it be in one the waypoint containers? That would make it a little more difficult for those who have already done the cache to just stop by and grab it. Craig (The Jester)

The current scoring does seem a little, how should I say this, boring. We get five, they get five, we get... until a blight. How about dropping the five point per drop rule and modify the extra time rule. Say one point for every 8 hours, with a full overnight 'dead zone' (no moving, no points); knowing that some parks will have more strict no enter rules. Maybe use the hours of 6am to 10pm are the caching hours. This would keep the potato moving, with some minor penelty for letting it sit. With more blights the single points wouldn't be a big factor, but would add a little interest. Opening up the playing field would enhance the game for me. How about all of King and all of Pierce counties with a height restriction (1500 was used because of snow concerns). This would limit most of the eastern portions counties. Still thinking, still enjoying the game... Craig (The Jester)

Aside from the "it's too easy for a clue" hints the two that had me pulling my hair were: "If you can hear traffic, you're close" - it was on an embankment next to the freeway - gee, my GPSr told me that! "** 12/03 NOTE: This clue may not be valid anymore, please read log entries for additional clues. **" - So now I have to decrypt some log entries that I don't have with, besides the rest of the clue referenced the photo also. Just great to read while standing in the middle of the forest - you think wi-fi reaches here? On the other side of the coin, there is a craze around here of "it's suppose to be hard, so no clues." This is in the discription, so it's not a surprise, but on 3+ diff caches...

Did You Leave Something Forgotten After Caching?
The Jester replied to garri's topic in General geocaching topics
Last summer we went to Portland OR for our anniversery. We took three shots at Time Machine, just across the street from the Amtrak station (which was our mode of travel that trip). Finally found it on our way back to the train for our trip home. Just as the train is pulling out of the station I realize that I had left the GPSr on the railing next to the cache! A series of phone calls to Ticketing (on a borrowed cell phone) did result in ticketing agent (Sue, bless her heart) walking out and finding the unit. It was a very tense 15-20 minutes. It took a couple of weeks for a friend to stop by, pick it up, and mail it back to me. -
May I suggest my Micro Multi Cache GC31B9. The cache itself doesn't have that much of a view (but a little ways west isn't bad), but some of the waypoints do (Sign of the Times in particular). The same for a hike.

1st Anual Global Cache Maintinence Day
The Jester replied to compass_bearing_north's topic in Website
I don't spell well, so the 'n'/'u' went over my head, but I read dates real well - the tread date should be 2004, not 2003! -
Gee, does that mean that my Micro Multi Cache GC31B9 would be disallowed?

I was wondering about changing the scoring. A shorter period before points add on would encourage moving the potato more. It seems recently to wait most of the alloted time before moving. The other idea I had was for points for placement are on a sliding scale. The quicker it's moved the more points. Starts at 10, each hour it sits it loses a point, to a minimum of say three points for example. How to deal with overnight placements and delays from placement to log should be addressed with this system. Also the playing field seems unbalanced. The north is over 35 miles deep, while the south is 17.5 (using I-5 border crossing). Craig (The Jester)

Another thought (came just after pushing the Add button): Hands on vs. theory sessions. Craig (The Jester)

Don't know if I can make it Saturday, still discussing it with the wife. I've been in charge of other confrences so I know what a job is in store. I've taught several classes on GPSr use so wouldn't mind helping there. You might want to label sessions as beginner/intermediate/advanced so people have an idea what is right for them. Other quick thoughts- Other topics: Hiding a Cache Cache containers & disguise Map programs Other tasks: Housing/motels/hotels Craig (The Jester)

bilbo19 wrote: "If jester did have permission to go in and practice rock climbing that still wouldn't make it legal to go and get the cache in my opinion. The rules say that if a park is closed then you CANNOT GET THE CACHE. It doesn't say if it is closed but if you have permission to go do something else you can sneak off and get the cache. The rules are in place so it is fair for everyone, having one person on the King County Team have permission to go into a closed park is crap! This makes it an unfair balance to the teams. Even if it is for something completely unrelated to geocaching! He should be able to go and do his climbing but the park is still closed under normal circumstances so it should be unavailable to him and to all!!!" Two points I'd like people to think about. One, I didn't just have permission to rock climb, the Mountaineer's had rented the use of the park. That means we had access to the whole park (the activities are all over the park). Yes, the park was closed to the public, but not to the Mountaineer's. Two, let's say the a group had rented the park for a geocaching event, would that make it illegal for one of them to go climb on Sherman Rock? This whole idea started because I asked a hypothetical question that turned more and more real. We asked for a ruling from the ref and got a positive response. I would have abided by which ever way it went. One last question to all: Why the heck are we argueing/discussing something that didn't happen??? Craig (The Jester)

OK, so everyone knows what we (I) were planning, and that it did NOT involve anyone 'outside' the game: I am a member of The Mountaineer's and an instructor with their climbing courses. The Mountaineer's have rented the park for the weekend to hold their Basic Climbing Course Belay Field Trip. This gave me legal access to the park while it is closed to the public. I would have the chance to hit the cache and then move the potato. I even checked with the ref prior to fully making the plans, but Nolenator beat me to it. BTW, there are other weekends during the game time that The Mountaineer's will be in the park... Craig (The Jester)

At 1 something in the morning I guess I can't tell a 3 from a 2! Sorry about the mistake - yes it should have been lame #2. Craig (The Jester)
