  1. One thing that's important to remember.....NOT seeing a smiley next to a cache listing on gc.com doesn't mean that it hasn't been found. Some cachers NEVER log online, they simply sign the book and move on. Some folks aren't able to visit the cache listing to log their find before other would-be FTF obsessed folks log on to check. Not everyone has the ability to log their find online from Ground Zero....and that's basically what would need to happen to save the aggravation of chasing a FTF that isn't there. Even then...how many times have we missed a FTF by ten minutes? Even if they had logged from GZ......I was in the car and on my way. Wouldn't have seen their Smiley and wouldn't have been eligible for a FTF. What's the only way to avoid aggravation in Geocaching, if you are inclined to make YOUR rules applicable to everyone else? Find another hobby. Truly.....does it matter who has a Smiley Face first? Enjoy it for what it is.....have a great holiday season and stay safe! Buzz VT-GeoDevils
  2. Yup.....you got poached! Since we are caching in the same area (and I've been poached before), I can attest that tha is the proper term here. First time I got poached I felt like you do.....really annoyed me because my new cache had a special FTF prize. I even swore a little at the poacher (who's actually one of my best caching buddies)......and then I realized that everything about geocaching that's supposed to happen had happened. My family found a really nice spot to place a cache...we did the footwork to put it out and stock it well. Sent it in to the reviewer and it was found. Heck, it's been found a bunch of times.....some probably by folks not even looking for a cache there. It's all about how you play your game. Get annoyed and frustrated if you want..... what I did was make it my mission to send some of these poachers on wild duck chases. Now that's fun! Buzz VT-GeoDevils
  3. Thank you! My info has been sent in hopes that you end up with an extra one. I appreciate your follow-up! I'll be ordering one of the Poker Wheels....I expect that i should go ahead and do that now before they are sold out?
  4. I can't catch a break on this thing! I don't buy many coins....I missed when these originally went on sale. I saw them come back up for pre-order and tried to do it with my fiance's credit card but it would only accept PayPal, check or money order. Since I have the Paypal account, it would need to wait until my disability check got deposited for the month. That happened today....so I go to pre-order and see that they're gone again. Can someone tell me just to give up on this thing?!? I suck at timing my jumps through hoops and I sure won't be buying one off that eplace. Sorry for the rant....just frustrated at continued bad luck!
  5. Our thoughts sure go out to this family! My brother suffered a massive stroke (with similar prognosis) on August 19th. Through miracle upon miracle he was released from the hospital on October 30th. Sometimes it's not about what Doctor's think....it's much bigger than medicine! Our best wishes!
  6. I, for one, would like to thank the OP for asking for help! Seems that most coins/TB's go missing when new cachers get confused and DON'T ask for help. They just say to heck with it and throw it in a drawer. I much prefer someone askign for help. Maybe that's just me.
  7. I just did this about 4 weeks ago. Just call or e-mail Garmin and they will tell you what to do. I just installed and registered version 8. Unlocked it on my 2 GPSRs (Venture Cx and GPSMap 60Cx) and called them to get the free upgrade. I had the Version 2008 upgrade disk in less than a week. It is my understanding that anyone who purchased CN or CNNT after the release of V2008 will qualify for the upgrade if they received an older version from their seller. Thanks for the info. I called this morning and my update is on the way!
  8. Garmin was very helpful and my update is in the mail. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth! Buzz VT-GeoDevils
  9. Guess I got confused because I didn't receive the CN as part of a bundle with the 60CSX. I'll try to give Garmin a call and see how it goes. Thank you for your reply! -Buzz
  10. Can you tell me how long ago you did this? I just bought v8 last week. Would love the upgrade without the cost!
  11. Through two separate purchases, I am the happy new owner of the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX and City Navigator NT v8. WOW...what a difference from the Garmin Legend that I was using previously!!! I see that there is a newer version of CN (2008) available as an update for around $60-70. I live in Vermont....would I see enough benefit to make laying out another $60-70 worth it? Any input much appreciated! Buzz VT-GeoDevils
  12. We are within a few weeks of Vermont's CITO Event (GC11YH3). Anyone have a coin or two lying around that you'd be willing to donate for doorprizes? Any gift greatly appreciated! Please email me if you require more info. Thank you! Buzz VT-GeoDevils KB1EPQ@gmail.com
  13. Your coins are beautiful! Great job!
  14. I thought they worked for acorns I told you they need to be trained!
  15. My own personal method would include a trained squirrel taught to fetch from a giant box filled with the coins. The squireel would need to wear padded gloves, of course, to avoid damage. Whatever coin the squirrel fetches goes into the next enevelope. Quick, easy and they work for peanuts!
  16. I come late to the discussion, but I did read all the way through. I never did see a reply about the 'randomness' question. I'm not accusing, I'm asking. As a pretty new, not well-known entity in the geocoin club, I would be pretty hesitant in thinking that I have the same chance of receiving the lower minted (more desireable) cards than someone who's been around the game. Maybe that's just the pessimist in me....but I don't recall seeing it addressed after it was asked. I like the coins....I probably wouldn't buy them even as a set....I definately wouldn't buy them without knowing what I was getting. My fear: a purchase of 5 coins would get me no more than a full house....3 tens and a pair of jacks. All of a sudden, the trade is gonna be in the other guys favor everytime. Nah. Since you're business is not dependent on my money, I guess it doesn't matter much. I find it pretty disappointing as a new collector that the question "How will randomness be acheived" to paraphrase, was completely ignored. My guess based on that.....randomness will play no part in it. Maybe I'm wrong.....hard to tell when the seller won't even acknowledge that it's been asked. Buzz VT-GeoDevils
  17. Cody thought we should probably look under here for one cache that was giving us fits! Thank you to those folks who helped me with posting this. I appreciate it!
