  1. So, the easy way then? And yes, the procedure (I am not a reviewer and never un-archived a cache, so maybe I am wrong) it is to contact the CO and say the cache is there. If the CO doens´t want the cache any more would be to contact a reviewer and explain the situation. Hopefully he would un-archive the cache and then the original CO would allow you to adopt the cache. The problem would be if the CO is absent, I think there is no way to un-archive those caches...
  2. I like your attitude of trying to restore a relic or a good cache but wouldn´t it be better to just "adopt" the cache? As you say in the new cache description: Then wouldn´t it be better to just adopt it instead of creating a new listing? Just a thought... Anyway, liked your attitude but still don´t agree in logging a cache that is archived.
  3. There are many cachers on both sides of question of logging caches that no longer exist? If that is so, this game no longer resembles the one I signed up for. If the rules of the game allow that, people will do it to get a +1 smile!!! If the CO is absent even better!!! I wrote my own guidelines of geocaching in my profile, and one of them relates to this: 2. Game starts when the cache is published in Geocaching.com and ends when it is archived in Geocaching.com. In my opnion, an archived cache is no longer part of the game so, no logs should be allowed. If a guy wants +1 is very easy do get a lot in one day. Just search for absent COs and log a found in any date. Even better if it is before the date of archiving and just mention: "I came here with my old friend 6 years ago but only logging now!" I saw this in some caches here in Brazil! If Groundspeak allows, people will do it... simple...
  4. Yesterday in the hint with this: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano! [EN] Magnetic, not a nano! Showed like it is... today after submission shows like: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano![EN] Magnetic, not a nano! .... It is corrected now! Thanks!
  5. By the way, the same think happens in the Profile Edit page with it can interpret when you use it (I use it for tabs) but then, every time you edit the profile page you have to do it again... This also happened before today... It´s just something I had noticed before but never told.
  6. Yesterday in the hint with this: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano! [EN] Magnetic, not a nano! Showed like it is... today after submission shows like: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano![EN] Magnetic, not a nano! If I use: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano! <br /> [EN] Magnetic, not a nano! solves the problem but everytime I edit the cache it goes back to: [PT] Magnético, não é um nano![EN] Magnetic, not a nano!
  7. I have a problem with format of the hints field. Previously it would "understand" ENTER and now it doesn´t. If I use the code <br /> solves the problem but the code in the hints vanishes every time so, if I edit anything on the cache the <br /> goes away and the format of the hint is wrong again.
  8. New wizard it´s usually good news because you spend less time in the computer and more time outside caching!!!! All the caches I´ve tested the changes in the wizard seemed great but there is one that would help me a lot, having all the fields in the same order in the EDIT page and the SUBMIT NEW CACHE page. For instance the field "Background Image URL" in the EDIT page is in position 7, right before the input of the coordinates, summary and description. In the SUBMIT NEW CACHE page it is in the end, after coordinates, summary and description. When you are copying fields from another cache it would be very handy not having the need to scroll up and down before the copy/paste. Thanks!

    CACHE COP

Boa tarde a tod@s!
  10. The same problem with trees I have with buildings... I agree that an accurate description, hint or photo are the solution when GPS is bouncing a lot. It will be for everyone that goes to that cache! But if you really want accurate GPS coordinates do home made triangulation: 1) Pick up 3 or more spots around the cache, where GPS coordinates are accurate (you have clear sky and no walls nearby) an with a compass point to the cache location and take the azimuth (direction angle). 2) Now print a map of the location (or use a map software), write or place the spots in the map and draw each of the taken directions or azimuths. 3) The points where each of the lines cross are your approximate points so, average all the points and you will have a good estimate of the coordinates. There are another possibilities but I think this one is the easiest!
  11. It's hard to determine how long a cache can go unfound (I just got notification that someone found a cache of mine that hadn't been found in over two years - and prior that find hadn't been found in four years). It's just as difficult to determine how long after a DNF before either maintenance or found. For many caches that don't get searched for very often, a single DNF does not tell the owner that much. If the cache is a difficult hide, multiple DNFs between finds may be expected. What we do have are Needs Maintenance and Needs Archive log. These along with multiple DNFs are the only way we know that a cache may be in need of maintenance. I totally agree with this point of view! I made an FTF on a cacher after 6 years http://coord.info/GC186YT and also a DNF and NA after 7 years without anybody searching for it http://coord.info/GC1382T this one would be a very nice Throwdown... But for instance, cases like this http://coord.info/GC35RM4 that the cache is probably ok (will check tomorrow) but the owner is MIA since December 2011 and the logbook is full and it´s a nano. It will be archived soon because no one will put a new logbook. It´s the owner that is responsible for that so, if he is gone from the game, the cache is gone too. I totally agree with this! And here we are not talking about a throwdown but a much simpler thing, a log replacement...

  14. Never interpreted it that way, but you are right, if I say "Help me keep this cache alive!" even tho the context is log a DNF if you can´t find it and a NM if you really think the cache is gone I will change that sentence in all my caches, just to make sure people don´t even think about doing a "Throwdown" in any of my caches... I will replace it to: "Respect the game, don´t place a throwdown!". Thanks for making me realize the double interpretation of that sentence.
  15. I think Groundspeak accepts magnetic stripes as geocache containers, ate least they mention it in the Guidelines: "other: See the cache description for information. Unusual geocache containers that just don't fit into other categories. Example: a magnetic strip." Not everybody likes SWAGs and not everybody likes all kinds of caches or places. I have the freedom to place this type of containers and you have the freedom to visit them or not. You like sightseeing see some caches that I placed in the tallest mountains in São Paulo City, if you like Buildings or art look at my caches that focus on those subjects... All my caches are inside a specific list that you can see in my profile page. By the way, how does this relate to Throwdowns, the original topic?

  18. This is exactly how I feel! I am not alone...
  19. Nothing like coming here to São Paulo and try the supposed Urban PT... The São Paulo Government wants people to use more bicycles, so it is making a lot of initiatives to support their use in day life activities. One of the ways they promote it is by putting Bike Stops (groups of 12 bikes supports that you can use for free for 1h after registering in their website). I love to bike (both with pedals and have one with 250cc motor) so I placed one cache in each Stop so any tourist or local can go around the city in a bike looking for caches. If you think I accept Throwdowns, you are very wrong, for 2 reasons. First my "copy/paste" cache description says: "Please, if you see that the cache is not there or something is wrong with it log a "Need Maintenance", if you couldn´t find it log a "Did Not Found". Help me keep this cache alive!" and the second reason is, all caches are handmade with some magnetic strip, tape and a plastic bag, placed under the metallic bike support rail. So, never had a throwdown... yet! The cache tools: The cache with a golf ball to compare size:
  20. All being said, the ones I use in my DIY Magnetic Nanos are Neodymium (aka NdFeB, NIB or Neo magnet) which are a rare Earth magnet. Use hot glue to fix them to the cap. Here in Brazil they are not easy to get, until now just found two stores with them at a good price (7x1.5mm for around $BR 0.60, around $US 0.27 the unit). Just a curiosity photo of my DIY magnetic nanos, with a golf ball to compare the size.
  21. Thanks so much for all the fast answers! I love geocaching, it makes me travel around and visit places otherwise I would never gone to. By the few, but persistent, majority of the posts it is clear that Throwdowns are not a good thing, even when you are having fun, that´s why it irks me so much! I really thing, that even in a Power Trail, putting up a Throwdown is lame and not complying with the game rules, how can you say "FOUND IT" on something you just placed? But what can a geocacher do if he sees a Throwdown accepted by the cache owner because he is lazy or the cache is far away from his geocaching grounds? What if I find, several times, two geocaches in the same place, after a Owner Maintenance, because the CO accepts Throwdowns but then he can´t find them? Here in Brazil I´m having a big problem with this, please help me with your opinions! Thank you soo much!

  23. Well, reading in the forum about Throwdowns (a subject that really interests me) something came up: CACHE AUDIT! This is very interesting also because is actually being a "LOG COP" on your own caches which is something that Groundspeak appeals every owner to do: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=204 LOG DELETION - OWNERS It is one of your maintenance duties as the geocache owner to monitor quality control of posts to the geocache page. To this end, you have the power to delete logs. When I go geocaching in my area (São Paulo - Brazil) if I am nearby any of my caches I go and check if the cache is there and if the physical logs correspond to the virtual ones. Most of the times it does!!! But I am new to geocaching (only a member since July 2013) and only started placing caches in January 2014 so I never did a routine check on all of them, just do it when I go by because of a NM request or after many DNFs even if it doesn´t have a NM. So I have 2 questions: 1) If the cache was FOUND by the last logged visitor and it should be nothing wrong with the cache how frequent should you visit it to warrant that the cache is ok and ready to find? 2) If you see some supposed bogus logs will you check if they are physically done in the cache or not? Thanks!!!
  24. Let´s face it... It´s something that really irks me when someone places a Throwdown (TD)!!!! Groundspeak talks about TD here: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=427 And many topics referring customs or ideas for TDs: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=321211 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=318643 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=316489 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=291672 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=300956 And one of the best topics about TDs: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=313893 But after reading a lot on the forum and some logs I found that some people actually have pleasure in placing a TD and also finding double caches. Soooooo.... Isn´t this game all about having fun? PS: If you have more cool Topics about TDs please give me the link and I´ll edit and place it here!!!!
