  1. Hi all!! Looking at the oldest caches never found that I posted in another topic I found some caches that the COs are long gone but the FTFs on them seem highly suspicious or were not FOUND IT according to the guidelines: http://coord.info/GC366C http://coord.info/GCG2ZQ Should GS or the reviewers of these areas take some action about these FOUND IT logs? I think someone should... PS: I will update the list in this first post!
  2. This is the cache: http://coord.info/GC57TCA 03-08-2001 Captain Nemo's Lookout aka Captain Pomin Rock Copy/Paste from the search results... So there may be errors that I will correct in the first post! Actually the error is not from the database itself it can be: 1) the reviewer that approved the cache with that date. 2) the user that after publication of the cache changed it. Yet another thing, why does GS allow users to edit the hidden date after a cache has been published. It´s just allowing things like this to happen and more work for them to control.
  3. You are right!!! Something about Project-GC database is stopping show this cache... will check what is the problem... THANKS!
  4. Hi all!!! Looking at a related topic went and searched, with the great Project-GC tools, for the oldest caches still to find in all the world. This is the result ordered by GC code, placed before the end of 2004: http://coord.info/GC105E 10-07-2001 Conch Shell Horn http://coord.info/GC1259 23-06-2001 Kougarok http://coord.info/GC7584 16-07-2002 Toothy Travel Bug Cache http://coord.info/GC784C 28-07-2002 ECO ESTRATO http://coord.info/GC784E 15-05-2002 ECO ARCOIRIS http://coord.info/GC82F9 19-08-2002 Necans Old Cabin http://coord.info/GC89FF 20-07-2002 Puppet Theatre stash on the Mont Blanc http://coord.info/GCC560 13-08-2002 Gold Lake http://coord.info/GCC65F 18-01-2003 Geocache http://coord.info/GCC763 20-12-2002 ECO RISUEÑO http://coord.info/GCC767 19-01-2003 ECO RESPLANDESCIENTE http://coord.info/GCCFC1 05-02-2003 Penguin Dance http://coord.info/GCDECD 04-03-2003 Antarctic Views http://coord.info/GCE0A6 08-02-2003 Le gardien de Safar http://coord.info/GCG822 19-07-2002 Rainbow Hydrothermal Vents http://coord.info/GCGABB 12-06-2003 Shore Lunch with Bazooka Joe http://coord.info/GCGGGV 11-07-2003 They Would Have Loved It http://coord.info/GCGQNJ 08-08-2003 Drury Days http://coord.info/GCHAYZ 07-12-2003 The Navigator's Crater http://coord.info/GCHC1R 27-11-2003 Umm Dabbadib http://coord.info/GCHM71 01-02-2004 El segundo http://coord.info/GCJFH5 12-05-2004 Yi Island Cahce http://coord.info/GCJFH6 14-05-2004 Louji Mountain Celestial Being Cave Cache http://coord.info/GCJFH9 13-05-2004 Hot Springs Falls Cache http://coord.info/GCJZV0 14-07-2004 Shu Fly Dont Bother Me http://coord.info/GCKPTP 03-10-2004 BushCrawl http://coord.info/GCN17F 11-01-2004 islote del sur ... not that many!!! Good hunting!!!!
  5. Find the cache, sign the logbook!!! Simple right?!?!?! Seeing the cache, with binoculars serves as a find for you?
  6. If you come to Brazil not many caches are written in English.. and logs most in Portuguese. GroundSepak cannot force someone to speak a language they can´t! I try to write always in English because is the most common language among the geocachers that play in Brazil, since most of them are foreigners. When the most are Brazilians I will start to write my logs in Portuguese!
  7. PRoject GC has been using a digital elevation model with a certain grid size. A while ago they experimented with different DEMs and at that time the elevations kept on changing. I didn't see any changes lately so I guess they are happy with what they got. Yup, same here Project-GC rules!!!!
  8. This one OO7 Moonraker in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Pão de Açucar) is the lowest in Brazil at -107m. As you can see by the spoiler pictures it´s on top of the "big rock" well over 300m high... It´s all about how the geographic altitude map is made, maybe you can find some spots that are wrongly placed in the map.
  9. Agora percebi, total de caches publicadas! Já agora, destas 2755 que foram publicadas até hoje, 1822 estão activas, 75 desactivadas e 858 arquivadas.
  10. I feel FTF as a "Plus"... not actually the reason I go to a geocache!
  11. Geocaching WIKIA Funny they are also here... in Grandfathered Cache Types!
  12. Just log "FOUND IT" in the remaining APE cache more than once, some did it and no logs were deleted ... I go there many times (it´s 270km from where I live in the beautiful Intervales National Park) and if you want, just tell me what you want to be written in the logbook and I´ll do it!!!! P.S: No I won´t log if for anybody... but the multiple logs are true, I even informed the CO and nothing was done!
  13. Not so fast... some CEO of non profit organization are making very good money. I always laugh when I hear "non profit" because most of the time someone is making a "profit". Ok, this is a total off-topic but it is true... to be a non-profit organization all you must do is convert the money into assets like buying a car, motorcycle or house for the company but you, as president, can use it at your will so, it´s as if it was yours... but well, this is Groundspeak rules for placing a cache, not governmental or political issues regarding the incorrect usage of non-profit organization money.
  14. Yeah, you are right about the "non-encyclopedic reviewers", moreover in the Brazil case where Brazilian reviewers are Portuguese living 8000km away from here... sometimes I have to explain them things about local laws but no problem about that, I actually prefer experienced reviewers that live 8000km away rather than inexperienced ones that live around the corner. In any case, there are some caches published in freeways managed by profitable organizations, only accessible by a motor vehicle, but most of them are free for motorbikes, so... if you have a motorbike like me, you can get the cache for free, so no reason to archive those since "there is a way not to interact with the employers". Again thanks all for the enlightenment about the specificity of caches that require you to pay a fee to access it. Just to resume these are my conclusions: 1) NO PROBLEM with caches that the fee is payed to a non-profitable organization. 2) NO PROBLEM with caches that the fee is payed to a governmental organization. 3) PROBLEM if the fees are payed to private organizations. One case that is not clear to me is if you don´t have to interact with a private organization employer, like having an automatic paying machine with tourniquets, for instance?
  15. So, the difference of approval or not approval should be regarding if it is a profitable or non-profitable organization that is responsible for charging the fee? Tolls here in Brazil are managed by profitable non-governmental organizations (private ones actually), so all caches that require you to pay tolls or are placed in those freeways should never be published? What about caches is amusement parks with administration permit? They shouldn´t be allowed?
  16. Some fees are allowable. (eg. Car Parking) Non-profit establishments seem to be allowed. This is a good point of view!!!! If you have to buy a ticket from a guy at the ticket office, thus interacting with a employer, the cache should not be publish then, but if you buy the ticket online and the entrance is fully automatic, thus no contact with employers there is no problem? Why car parking is allowed then? It´s a profitable enterprise that manages the parking and you have to interact with the employers, dubious definition then... It this is true, many caches in Brazil should have never been published... some of them are mine, inside a National Park that a entrance fee is required... Strange!
  17. So, when you cached with another person you never wrote that person´s name on the logbook? You always hand out the logbook for that person to sign? Just let me put it this way: - the caches she touches or helps me find the cache, get involved in the search, I log: "JPreto & Cinthia" - all the other caches I find I just log "JPreto" One day, if she wants, she can create her own geocaching profile and backlog these caches... again, if she chooses so. Or if I want to create a profile called "JPreto & Cinthia" for the Team, I could also do that with no problem. If your way to teach a kid to geocaching is by "cheating the rules" and saying "smiles are important" then go ahead. I wouldn´t support my kid to do that since he was actually a muggle when he saw me geocaching. Again, it´s a matter of opinion, I´m just giving mine... and you give yours... but rules are rules!
  18. I respect your opinion, just don´t agree with it... And I´m giving a own example: "My wife sometimes goes with me geocaching but she doesn´t like to adventure in the woods so, in some cases she stays like 50m-100m from the actual cache place. I look for the cache, sometimes I find it, others I don´t but could she say that she had found the cache with me? I always show her the cache in my hand, raising it in the air and saying: Found it! But she never signed any log. In all the caches she was with me, touching the cache and looking at it from close range, I log my name and hers." What is the "FOUND IT" distance limit? Touching it...5m...10m...50m...100m...200m... staying at home and following the search via webcam? For me is signing the logbook as the rules put it! But you can interpret the rules the way you want! In my caches, if I can´t see a user´s signature or stamp in the physical logbook, I delete the online log.
  19. I saw recently some allusions in this forum that you can´t place a cache in some location where, to get to it, you must pay a fee. This is a bit strange for me, I actually can´t see any guideline that specifically says this. For instance, giving some examples: - geocache inside an amusement park, with park administration permit, is not allowed? - geocache inside a botanic garden, with garden administration permit, is not allowed? - geocache in a tolled freeway rest stop, with freeway administration permit, is not allowed? - geocache in a camping park with entrance fee, with camping administration permit, is not allowed? Very very strange. If it is correct many, but many caches are being incorrectly approved, at least in Brazil... Please inform!
  20. Did HE sign the logbook?!?!?!? If he didn´t he shouldn´t log them, even if he accompanied you as a muggle. One of the basic rules of geocaching is: "Find the cache. Sign the log." If no log was signed he shouldn´t log them online. This is my opinion, following the rules of the game... but you can do whatever you want... I´ve seen things much worse than that!
  21. Now you know!!!! Me and my geocaching tools...
  22. Some players, here in Brazil, asked me if I wanted to sign their caches before they placed it... I politely answered: "No thanks, hide it so I can find it!" But signing own box with an FTF would be very nice...
  23. Actually you should log the "found it" log in the day you visited the place of the EC. There are some people that wait for approval of the CO to log it but it is a fake rule, actually the EC Guidelines say the exact opposite: Are you responding to a different post? I just said that I always log the Earthcache so the "find" is the day I visited the site. It´s not about YOU logging on the day you visited, of course I can read you saying that... it´s about ALWAYS logging on the day anybody visited not after a few days, like the OP said, to keep the streak on!
  24. Use German or whatever language you know... It wouldn´t matter!
  25. Actually you should log the "found it" log in the day you visited the place of the EC. There are some people that wait for approval of the CO to log it but it is a fake rule, actually the EC Guidelines say the exact opposite: Taken from here!
