    Name Change

I always liked the name weelow... I've always wanted to change my name too, but didn't because of all the relogging required. Now so many years into the game I think it might be easier (more for others) just to keep the name I have. I checked and the name I want is available... how good a reason do you need for a name change anyway?
  4. I'm happy to see someone doing this for Ontario! Looking forward to them.
  5. So if Russell has the other camp' s idol, and he can't use it himself then at least he's potentially taken immunity away from one other contestant. I haven't watched the past few seasons but started watching this one from the start. And when I saw the girl in the visiting camp reading clues for the location of the immunity idol, I got a GREAT idea for a multicache...
  6. It might be interesting to see how many geocaches you missed along your route. Edit to fix smiley
  7. The biggest surprise to me is how few cachers have caught on to this yet. Some people have gained many points over the past few months and others have missed the opportunity to catch the 'Pig. It's been fun to watch, for sure. Awww, c'mon......... inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!
  8. My Oregon is attached to a carabiner. Before signing the log I lay it on the ground next to my keys... also on a carabiner.
  9. What an awesome log. Some people seem to have forgotten that this is a very sick little girl and that her one wish of a lifetime was fulfilled. The direction that this discussion has taken makes my stomach turn.
  10. In Canada they can only be logged as waymarks, as far as I know. Edit: You can search for them on Waymarking.com
  11. I've cached in every weather there is... hot weather, deep snow, rain, you name it, I've been in it. Sometimes you just have to dress for the weather, take a bunch of extra clothes and shoes and get out there. A group of us cached 12 hours on a rainy day, did over 20km of hiking with intermittent thunder and lightning and extreme downpours at times. We still wonder why we were trying to dodge the puddles along the trails in our wet boots... which were soaked before we even found our first cache.
  12. I must confess that I've been to a few caches where I was so absorbed in finding the cache that when I finally did, I plucked it out of it's hiding spot, signed the log, then went "uh-oh where does it go?" I hadn't been very observant of where I took the cache FROM, so replacing it was a wild guess at best. Not a big deal with a regular trad. that might be placed back one branch too high, but definately important when replacing an evil/clever/high muggle cache. I've learned to sit back and take a good look before I remove it so I know exactly where it goes.
  13. Looks like a great cache, especially based on the comments in the logs. In my neck of the woods, this cache would have been hit at least 10 times by now.
  14. I just downloaded the new version and it's fantastic! Very easy to see and I found the municipal pathway data particularily helpful when trying to find access to parks and greenspaces. I used it on the Oregon today, and it was so simple... I found the closest access to the cache on the map, touched that spot on the screen and routed right to it. The days of driving blindly around subdivisons (and wasting gas) trying to find a park entrance may soon be over.
  15. I think this has been done in the US before, I can't remember if it was in the forums or if I stumbled across the event page. I don't remember the exact details but it was an open invitation through an event inviting all cachers to attend the wedding ceremony. The idea was very well recieved and attended by the local geocaching community. It's your wedding, you can do it any way you want.
  16. I had plantar faciitis on and off for 10 years, and tried everything including cortisone shots, which were only temporarily effective. Now I started having pain again last week on the other foot... I've been hiking greater distances lately but I think my new boots may be partly to blame, they are not as comfortable as my last pair(they were heaven). It's a horrible feeling and really restricts what I can do, but stubborn me will just hobble through the pain like I did the last time. The only good thing is as the day goes on the pain goes away, but it starts all over again the next morning.
  17. My goal is to hike the entire Bruce Trail, which is about 900km long and spans from Queenston (Niagara) to Tobermory (Bruce Peninsula) Ontario. A small group of cachers decided to hike together most Saturdays to complete the trail. We started last summer, took the winter off and have completed about 200km so far. We hike 15-20 km per day on average, while picking up caches along the way.
  18. Download Cacheberry for about $15.(one time fee with unlimited beta upgrades) It's paperless caching and is compatible with GSAK. It also has a compass function that will work like a GPS if you have GPS capabilities on your phone. I am on Telus and have the unlimited email/browser data plan, I'm not even sure Cacheberry uses any data at all, unless you use the option of importing GPX files directly from your email on the phone, or browse to the cache page from your cacheberry database.

  20. Just ordered my Oregon 300 from GPSCity last night, and it was shipped today. I've bought from them before and get great service every time.

I got Sawyer's permethrin treatments ($5.99 US) at Cabela's while I was in Virginia. Online at cabelas.com

I guess I'll be trying out the Permethrin I got in the U.S. sooner than I thought. And the 2 boxes of product probably won't last very long...
  23. I like the idea of announcing archivals and new spots opening up. It might get the hiders out there faster so there's more for me to find []
  24. I was co-FTF on this cache with Marion (Hunter and the Hownd). We made the trip out to the point on a VERY calm afternoon. If I recall correctly, it was a 30-40 min leisurely boat ride from Port Rowan. We docked on shore close to the lighthouse on the east side. Be slow and careful on approach as there are some large cement blocks submerged near shore, you don't want to get stuck out there with a hole in your boat! I can't imagine anyone canoeing out there, but then again I am not a canoer... And it is impossible to walk through as another poster already commented... there is private land and you cannot pass through. Although I have heard mention of it, I am not sure if anyone has actually attempted to walk in the water to bypass that area. Edit to add: Apparently the boat ride there was about an hour long.
