  1. quote:Go into your MyPop and then profile. The signature box is the very bottom one. The signature box is empty! Now what?
  2. quote: you're not allowed to remove it. Well.......I did not come by this decision lightly. I spent the weekend in Yellowstone Park observing the Druid pack(saw 12 of them!) and contemplating my decision. I filed the requisite Environmental Impact Statement with the Feds. I held public meetings to get input (the ranchers were all in favor of it, the tree-huggers threatened to spike my tires) and checked with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources as to state regulations. After extensive research, it was concluded, that being as this wolf is an artificially introduced species to this web-page, that control is warranted and allowed under auspices of the Federal Controlled Species Act. Had this wolf found his own way here, thereby being classisfied as a naturally introduced species, then he would have found complete protection. So....sadly, one of the 2 must be eliminated. It is not a pleasant job, I admire wolves. However, being that one is a clone of the other, it makes the job easier, knowing that I am not eliminating the genes from the populations. Alphawolf out.

  4. O.K.....when I post, I get 2 wolf pictures. How come? One's plenty! In my profile, I have the avatar image listed, but that's all. Nothing else. Anyone care to help the old alphawolf out here?
  5. The only re-radiating antennas I've had any experience that are worth a dang, are the ones that also are 12v. powered, to boost the signal from the antenna to your gpsr. That sort of precludes them from geocaching.
  6. I have to pass this along......We took back a defective cord from a customer that was still under warranty. Figuring it was simply a blown fuse (it was), I took it home and dis-assembled it. Inside was a full-grown (but dead) Earwig (a crawling insect with pincers on it's tail, if you've never seen one) !! How it ever got there, I'll never figure out. The bug was huge, compared to any openings it had to get in there!
  7. quote:There only seem to be 2 satellites with good reception The number of satellites received and their geometry in the sky have a big effects on the accuracy of the receiver. Also, all map products have errors. Not just digital maps. I have never yet used any type of map that doesn't have errors. Some of them are glaring!
  8. This point needs to be reiterated for those new to GPS receivers and perhaps looking to buy their first or maybe upgrading..........Garmin GPSRs(only certain models of them) will accept only Garmin MapSource Topo and Magellan GPSRs (only certain models of them) will accept only Magellan MapSend Topo . The detail on these products is approx. equal to 1:100,000 USGS Topo maps. No other mapping products are able to be loaded onto your receiver. Hope that helps clear the way for you.
  9. Night Stalker....I am hoping you are the one I talked to in the store (Sportsman's) on Sat. After talking to you, I decided to ask our Magellan rep. for a store copy of the MapSend Topo. so I can load it and learn it as well as I know the Garmin version. You will probably get your answers here before I get my copy, but stay in touch and let me know if I can help you any more in any way. Mark
  10. By your references to streets and roads I assume you are speaking mainly of Metroguide. This would be a wonderful thing, to get say, monthly updates on roads, wouldn't it? Alas, I'm afraid it probably won't happen in the near (or probably distant) future. This would take a great amount of manpower and resources for Garmin to offer it. It would have to come from analyzing satellite images almost constantly, looking for changes. Even the military can't spot changes as quickly as they would like to. Then, the cost to you and I would quickly bankrupt a small nation. I see a new road built in my neck of the woods, and it doesn't even show up on a state road map for 2 years! It won't be known to Garmin for at least the same, so I think we can't hold much hope.
  11. I usually use track up. It is on the screen as it is to my eyes...with things coming straight at me while I'm in motion. If you are scaled way out on the map screen, it is strange to see your state up-side down when moving South if you are using track up. We are used to seeing maps with the North oriented top.
  12. quote: ever since I downloaded Mapsource 4.08 the phone numbers do not come up for the Points of Interest like they use to I am using 4.08 & I still have the Ph. #'s showing. I'm lookaing at one as I type this.... Don't know what you have going on there!
  13. O.k....Help me out here....After I launch the program, It shows a "Gary P" in the "Edit new contents here" window. After I change this to something of my choice, should it show in the "preview" window? When I hit the "find next" tab, I get a window showing the "Search text not found" warning and nothing shows in the preview window still. Any ideas?
  14. I can't get anything to show in the preview screen. Anyone else have isuues with their V? Anyone who got it to work on their V have to do anything special to get it working? I am running the latest firmware on the V.
  15. My Garmin V carried on board a mission over the Utah Test & Training Range (UTTR) by an F-16 pilot friend......672mph!!! Got the whole track log...from take-off to landing. It was pretty cool! Don't tell the wing commander he did this!!

  17. If you are letting it guide you to a destination via the auto-routing feature, you don't even hardly need to look at the screen. Doesn't really matter what size it is. It beeps, you look at the big black arrow for turn direction and how far away the turn is and there ya go! The maps don't really matter during auto-routing.

  19. quote:Metroguide is better than City Select Well....It might be better right now, then only in rural areas, but I am thinking that after this upgrade it won't be. My understanding is that the "new" version of City Select will be even better than the Metroguide, as far as having lots of points of interest, even in the rural areas that it never touched before.
  20. How the heck do I stop this? I only want the little wolf picture, not the big one too!
  21. I recently received the notice of a major upgrade to City Select (it needed it!) However, I'm confused. I originaly unlocked only the one area that came with it. They are offering a reduced rate to me to upgrade to the new version. They say I can only unlock the whole country if I originaly unlocked the whole country. I would like to upgrade **and** unlock the whole country. Will they not let me do this? Anyone else looked into this? If City Select will now have the rural detail that MetroGuide has, then I want it all unlocked. The big problem with City Select has been it's lack of detail in rural areas. If I get the jest of the upgrade to City Select, I am guessing it will make MetroGuide pretty much useless on my V.
  22. quote:Here is a picture of the Owhyee Canyon I used to do a lot of coyote hunting in the Owhyee Desert North of Winnemucca Nevada and on up towards Boise. You're right! People who have never seen it can't comprehend a hudred miles between ranches! I love it out there. Have you ever fished the Jarbidge?
  23. This is an actual use a customer had in mind while looking for a GPSR that will allow him the accuracy to do this: He is a hunter, and wanted to be able to do the following trick....He is on a hillside and using a laser rangefinder, determines the yardage to big game he has just shot on the opposite hillside of a valley. He wants to be able to project a waypoint to the animal so as to be able to find it easily after traversing down his side, and back up the other side of the canyon, being as the animal will now be out of sight during his trek to it. If a GPSR has only 1 decimal of accuracy, this would put him within 176 yards of the animal (1/10 of a mile is 176 yds)whereas if it does 2 decimals, that gets him within 17.6 yads. I told him that the legend will do this and 17.6 yards is all the accuracy he needs out in the field. If he can't locate the animal within this distance, he needs to stay home!
