  1. sorry for hijacking this thread, but my topic fits quite well: I was asking myself where the piece of information is stored which is used to generate the "ignore field notes before date" click button. That used to work very smart and easy: I connected my OR, started the upload field notes function, select the file, - the "ignore field notes before date"-check mark is set and I uploaded the new notes since the last upload. I am experiencing trouble with this function since roundabout 4 weeks: if I try to upload my newest field notes, this option is no longer offered to me and the webpage is uploading my complete geocache_visits.txt file. I deleted the geocache_visits file, but this didnt bring any advance, I tried it with different computers and browsers, no difference. First I thought that some piece of information about the last upload process must be saved somewhere on the OR or in the browser but there is strong evidence that this is not the case. So how does this recognition works? Or, how can I get my problem solved? thanks and best regrds,
  2. Also there were reports from posters in that german forum that there were caches and stages not approved which were located on bridges over RR-tracks or active RR-tunnels. All with the argument of this 46m rule.
  3. Terrible slow? Do you mean the eXplorist 600 with the new firmware, or the XL running 1.55? I know my 600 bogs down if I let the track log get too full, and my wife's XL is running fine under 1.55.... Do tell? - Greg (northernpenguin) I am talking on 600er FW and that mystic beta: Yes it now has the new screens, yes, the track menu is signifcantly faster, but Map redraw is a pain (more than ever) .
  4. This is VERY interesting news. Hopefully it's got the 1.55 XL enhancements when it arrives. Don't worry it does. And it's working fine, so it should be up soon. //Beta tester only that it is terrible slow!
  5. BTW: Just heard some rumours that there is a 500/600 FW currently under betatesting.......
  6. Yes, but you need to install the patch to V 1.3. You find the patch on http://www.magellangps.com/support/softwar...update_wwbm.asp
  7. As I read somewhere else, the new version for the US XL's (2.05) is referring to the initial 1.05 Version. It does not include any changes which had been incorporated into the 1.55 for the European versions. In other words: 2.05 is on a lower level of functionality than the 1.55 Version. I am now totally convinced that there no-one left in Magellan who knows what he does.....
  8. Something new for the US-Version of the XL: A version 2.10 http://www.magellangps.com/support/softwar...ates/XL_210.asp But where is a update for 500 and 600? Or because we had our update already in 2005?
  9. Oh yeah! sweet memory! I had the same problem a year ago with my ex600.... . Its no 500 NA problem, its a general explorist problem. My unit from then has been exchanged by Magellan two times in the mean time for other reasons; It just went cold here, I should try it again with that latest.. But: No, I allready switched branches and being a happy Garmin user.
  10. Half the utility of the feature is to remove caches from "to be found" consideration while in the field. Beyond that, the Found2Log applet that DocW referenced a couple posts up looks like a good way to pull the list out for use (haven't tried it yet myself). One needs to delete the file to reset. Is the kind of stuff you were wondering about? You dont have to delete it. If you are loading an updated version of the .gs file, the adjacent .fnd file is deleted automaticly. And to operate found2Log you dont need to know german language even if it is not translated to english. Just start the program, hit "Datei öffnen" on top (which means "open file"), move to your unit's geocaching folder, select the wanted *.fnd file and open it. I guess everything else is self explanatory. Just hit the GC-code, the geocaching.com page of that cache comes up, enter your log and there you are. You can click on each item of the top row to sort the found files according your wishes. Makes most sense when sorting for timeline.
  11. Ever tried this tool: Found2Log ? It can read in the found cache file (*.fnd) on the explorist unit and offers you the found caches in a list. You can then click on each of the cache-lines which opens the add a log page on geocaching.com. The coolest automatic log and document tool anywhere avialable. This is true paperless caching! Anyhow, the geocaching functionality of Magellan is way ahead of anything else on the market (IMHO)
  12. They are still busy: Explorist XL upgrade from 1.05 to 1.55 just arrived. Its still only the european version, but I wouldnt count too much on this.
  13. What is the difference between NA and EU version of the firmware?? Was there ever one? Aw...I got my hopes up for nothing! Sure enough, if you go to the support page and click Explorist 210 North America there are no firmware updates. It only shows up on the Explorist 210 Europe. but its the same firmware! They are identical in hardware and firmware.
  14. What is the difference between NA and EU version of the firmware?? Was there ever one?
  15. Have a look on the accessory page on their home page: You can buy there the Power unit for US-outlets with the LIion-battery for just 19,99 EUR (which is close to 25 bucks). Ihs 42 EUR cheaper than those pieces bought separatly But you cannot even buy the 3x AAA Adapter for your 400/500/600 anymore.
  16. uhhhh! Its xmas night today!!! look at this: New firmware for the 400 isnt it exciting??
  17. I got it from a 210 user here in Germany in another Forum. But I must confess, I haven't double checked this information, the guy just mentioned that there is something new in the Geocaching functionality. He also posted the projection function (which is also not mentioned in the change list) The guy also mentioned something about much faster map redraw and sat fix. BTW: 2.02/2.03 for 4/5/600 also had a change list.
  18. New Firmware - New (old) Navigation screens - Geocaching functions improved - waypoint projection - faster? (So, they nearly reached the level of old meridians again )
  19. ever tried using Mapsend Lite? You can drop PQ on it and save them on your explorist. so all cache names and descriptions (in the reduced format) and icons are generated. One little downgrade is that the cache name is just truncated instead of smart truncated.
  20. 5.2.03 is somewhere from december 2005. its advantages to the initial version 5.1.61 can be found here
  21. The firmware seems to create some trouble with the compas and the weather station on some units. There is a work around to deeply re-calibrate the unit, but it seems it brought Magellan to pull it away from the Webpager. There are two solutions: either use the 500er version, its the same or try this link Lost link to V 2.03 for explorist 600 The download page is still there, but they removed the link. edit: but that will not solve the problem. Because that worked pretty well even with 1.63. Are you sure that you've entered the correct serial number? you do not need the conversion manager to do that job: Just simply create your region file onto disk (BUT with the correct serialnumber), find that file and copy it to the Detail map folder on your unit's SD-card or internal memory.
  22. Have Magellan Explorist 600 Magellan Platinum Garmin Forerunner 301 Some weird Fortuna BT SIRF II mouse Had Garmin III+ Magellan Meridian Gold Magellan Meridian Color Garmin Geko 201 Wanting Garmin Forerunner 305 (Plat, 301 are on their way from "have" to "had")
  23. Mumpfle-fumbldl, thx! Soo many keys, sooo thick fingers and I was a bit unprecise in the description (thanks Embra for correcting me), was using my own german translation from that page, and translated it backt to english, a bit too lazy. Sorry for that. Glad that everythings up again!
  24. The quote above suggests that I can correct this, can someone please tell me how ? Thanks in advance Yes, sure: First step: Reformat the flash (assuming that the unit is back to normal temperatures): - swittch the unit on - press NAV + PWR button (goes into hdden menu) - select menu 95 - select format, press enter Then the unit is ready for work again, but it does not have a basemap. To reload the basemap, connect it to the USB-cable and then swithc it on, so that it startsup in the file-transfer mode. Just copy the basemap (it must be named basemap.mgi) into the "background-map"-folder on the explorist. The basemap can be found here (but it seems to be down actually), give me a PN Hope that works for you!
  25. oh-oh! did you see his other items? Magellan Maps As I understand it right, you mail him your serial number and he is sending you back your maps ready for SD-card: As I understand the contract agreement which comes with direct route, you are licensed to create maps just for one GPS-receiver. So this guy offering illegal stuff on ebay.
