Are those OK then? Thanks, k
  2. Hello, I recently encouraged a family member to join me on one of my geocaching hunts. He and his family enjoyed it as much as I did and are now considering buying a GPS for geocaching. He asked me about a "delorme pn40". I don't really know anything about this one as I have a Magellan. I will do a bit of research later however, in the meantime thought I would post here to see if anyone has any experience, opinions, etc with this GPS. Thanks for any comments. k

    Facebook Finds

Thanks everyone for your excellent suggestions. I think I will put a warning on the bug's page that Facebook photos do not count and those logs will be deleted. I also can't tell who has posted the picture on Facebook. Have a great day.
  4. Hello, I currently own a travel bug which is out in geocaching terrain and has slowly made it's way around a couple of geocaches but disappointingly, it isn't as travelled as I'd like it to be. I have recently come to the realization that someone has posted it's picture on their facebook account because I have received logs saying something to the effect "Saw this travel bug's picture on facebook.". Could this be a deterrent to someone physically going to the geocache and moving the bug? If we post pictures of our travel bug finds, should we ensure the numbers are not showing? Does it matter? If it does, how do I go about having the picture removed? What do you do when posting pics of your finds? What are people's thoughts on this? Thanks
  5. Hello, A group of geocachers I know would like to hide a cache. We all have our separate geocaching.com userids. Does the concept of a group geocaching.com userid exist so that we can hide our cache under this group userid that we are all part of? Thanks, K
  6. Sorry if I'm missing something... but if the whole point was to obtain a .gs, wouldn't it be easier to just use GSAK? For me, the whole point was to get my GPS working with Vista. I shouldn't have added in that extra info. Plus I'm new at this and don't know what GSAK is. Anyway, I'm up and working now.
  7. Worth a try, but if the computer won't recognize the gps unit, it doesn't matter what software you're using. Still, you could probably use the SD card reader method with VP. I think vantage point includes the drivers for the eXplorist and Triton line. Ah... that could make a difference! I'll post after I try it. Thanks! Did you have any success with Vantage Point? Thanks I installed the driver update and then Vantage Point which successfully recognized my GPS. I was then able to import a geocaching *.loc file into Vantage Point and export it into a *.gs file and then save it on my GPS. Finally, I can go geocaching again.

  9. Hello, I recently bought a new laptop which has Vista on it and the software that I previously used on my old laptop (Windows XP) for geocaching and uploading waypoints no longer works. Can anyone recommend how I upload the waypoints I saved from geocaching.com to my magellan eXplorist GPS now? Thankyou, K
