  1. Obscure??? But geocaching is more popular than ever, unfortunately!!! Ladies and gentlemen we have the winner. It's never been the same since all these new unwashed people joined!
  2. We once did this with clear keyrings and bottle openers. We put a copy of our avatar in them and numbered them - 1 of 20 etc and called them limited edition! People took them. I don't drink myself so would have no use for a bottle opener, but keyrings always come in handy.
  3. In what way? To me it says we won't be able to publish virtuals - as that would require review. So there will be virtuals for people to find, but not hidden by the great unwashed Most of the feedback seems to be from people who like finding virts, because the ones they have found have been some of the best caches they've done (???) - NOT from people clammering to publish virts of their own.... I read your post on the tube home this morning through bleary eyes. I took it to mean that you could publish a 'My Favourite Dog-doo Bin of Southern Coventry' virtual without being asked by a kindly reviewer to maybe find somewhere a little more interesting.......
  4. I think this has been photo-shopped. They are definitely not leprechauns.
  5. I dread to think what your chat up line might be after finding your 'target'?!?!?
  6. So still quicker than taking the train then. Talking of trains - last week I bought a ticket to get to Swansea from Paddington for the Mega. When I first looked at it the ticket was £28.50 return. I looked again after a few days and the ticket had gone up. I thought that I had just missed the boat for the cheap advance fares. Then I remembered something a colleague told Ali - always delete your cookies when returning to travel type sites - especially when getting quotes for airline tickets. I thought I would give it a go.....hey presto, the ticket was back down to £28.50.
  7. September 3rd 2010 was pretty 'international' for us - caching in six countries in 24 hours.... Pretty sure you're the current UK record holders with that. We plan to take your record though later on in the year. This is going to end up being a re-run of Cram and Ovett! As part of "The JAMS" (JOSSS, Alibags, Metal-Bijou and Sipmly Paul) roadtrip to a mega event in Austria, we found caches in 9 countries within 72 hrs. Think we only got 6 countries bagged within the 24 hr period too. And that was on the way out when we were rushing to get to Austria, on the return we stopped at two small countries (Liechtenstein and Luxembourg) just because. Look forward to seeing you beat the country count. The later this year, may now end as early next year..... I thought I would be able to do it by motorbike, but it will be too tiring to be enjoyable. Four is our best so far.
  8. And thank you again. Anyone who makes mention of it being appropriate that HS rescued this bug - given it's name - is a dirty rotter! We've been pretty lucky with bugs over the years. We also got one back that did 13k miles and came back with various bits attached to it to do with law enforcement. I blame the police myself (oooops - wrong thread!). Edited as I can't spell.......
  9. Ah, that's probably why I was getting confused. When I first got the Oregon I was using one of the older versions of MM and I know it wasn't this easy to transfer routes.
  10. You click on the send to GPS button. Thought it would be more complicated for some reason.
  11. I'm going to do a walk in the Black Mountains this week and hopefully bag a few caches (much to the annoyance of my non-caching walking buddies!). I can't remember how to transfer the route from Memory Map to my Oregon. I've looked at the Oregon Wiki and also checked the owners manual, but can't find the details. I know I've done it before and was pretty sure I just pasted a GPX file into a folder called 'Routes'. The only problem is - there isn't a folder called 'Routes'.
  12. This is where we got married........so Ali has already found her knight!
  13. I don't really want GSAK to put both logs against the same database row - I want it keep the 2 entries quite separate in the database. But when compiling the stats it would be nice if it recognised that the cache name, location and find date were the same (all columns in the database cache table, so actually quite straightforward to do) and count it as only one find. I haven't, but maybe I will thanks - up until now I didn't run the stats macro, so it hasn't been an issue. Rgds, Andy Couldn't you just have two different found databases - one for Opencaching.com and the other for Geocaching.com?

  15. Armchair logging. (Is that on schedule today?) Taxi coming to get me to a cache in around 12 hours. Caching by taxi?!?!? Oh how the other half live..........
  16. More ammo cans than you can shake a stick at. If you can get a syndicate together to buy in bulk they will be even cheaper. I vaguely remember The Hornet buying a job lot years ago and distributing them amongst the needy.
  17. It does work like that...but I'd get in touch with someone who has found the Shropshire cache before you leave. That way you can go straight to the IOM cache, and offer the key to the Shropshire cache when you return. So are there 2 linked caches in Shropshire and 2 on the Isle of Man? I can only see 3 in total - but I've always been rubbish at finding stuff. Also, just realised that the Isle of Man is viewed as a separate country. Had no idea this was the case. I'm thinking of invading on behalf of the United Kingdom, as the population looks quite small. Other than some pretty good-looking caches, anyone know if they have any oil or gold?
  18. Brilliant. That's the maps sorted and on the Oregon. Thanks Patrician. They'll be my first ever blank logs.....I'm sure he won't mind! Thanks, Dave! My IOM caches have now been (mostly) adopted, but they're all still alive. Blank logs will be welcome (but not as welcome as interesting ones!). There are quite a few caches there now that I don't know. But some classics near Ramsey include Over a Barrule (if you can solve it in time, it's a great walk on a fine day). Or Six Kingdoms (the highest point of the island, but accessible by train). Or any of the Three Legs series (even though you won't have time to complete the whole series). A bit further south, Eye of the Needle is worth seeking out. Rather easier of access is Dhoon Farm Halt (brilliantly hidden). The nearby Dhoon Glen has some of the finest scenery on the island, and you could seek out the Waterfalls cache there (although it's very tricky). Cashtal yn Ard is another great spot, with only a short walk necessary. If you fancy driving round the TT course a bit, The Spider's Lair is well worth the (considerable) effort. Quite an adventure, but shouldn't take too long. Middle Earth is quite an adventure as well, in a unique area where you may be tracked by very strange and exotic creatures as you creep about. But you need to get in touch with someone first, to find the key. There are plenty of others; try this Favourites list for more tips. Shame I can't be there to meet up! Thanks. That's a few to be going on with. We are both trying to get an extra days leave, so may have all of Saturday. Middle Earth looks interesting and we might just be able to find the key cache, before offering a trade for the Shropshire key. If that's the way it works....
  19. Brilliant. That's the maps sorted and on the Oregon. Thanks Patrician. They'll be my first ever blank logs.....I'm sure he won't mind!
  20. We are going to the Isle of Man for a very short trip in August. The plan is to stay in Ramsey and we'll more than likely have a car. We'll probably only have Saturday afternoon / evening and Sunday - late afternoon (with sore legs on the Sunday ). Given the time constraints, can anyone recommend some decent caches? The Extremities ones look quite interesting...... Also - does anyone have any recommendations for accommodation?
  21. I've got the looks for television, but not a voice for radio unfortunately. I'll take it up with the producer instead.
