  1. PS - thanks to the Collie Wobbles for being such good sports.
  2. I like how the pockets follow you around the room ............And the winner is this one from SimplyPaul. E-mail me your contact details and I'll send the bug.
  3. Comp will end sometime on 1st January.......so time for more captions.
  4. Captions wanted; Winner to get a Founders Gnome Tag - Jeremy that was actually handed to me by the man himself and it's never ever been washed! Small print - I make the rules and it's up to me who wins.
  5. Always amazes me how clever Border Collies are. This is clearly a case of, 'Right we've found the cache for you, but you can crawl into the prickle bush to get it!'
  6. Me too in the UK. The only photos I can see are those in the GC forums that have been posted by someone else. We can't see our own photos or those of others on cache pages.
  7. Oh, excellent GC code. A pity the cache is not cat-themed! It was deliberate by the reviewer as the cache was bird themed.....
  8. +1 for Camelbak (Beware - some are fake on eBay. They are more Camelbehind than Camelbak.....)
  9. Post them on facebook, and use the 'like' button? Well I suppose that cuts out all opportunity of taking part then (see above comment "I don't use FB")! It's a bit of fun. No one will be insulted that you've not chosen their photo (although in saying that I still think my 'left side of Harry Redknapp's forehead' was a clear winner for it's artistic merit that particular month....... ). The popular vote idea could end up being a pain in the rear. What happens if there'e a tie for first place? Far easier for one person to decide I think. As for Facebook - like Original A1, for various reasons I don't use it. Keep it simple all round I say. Recent photos, UK caches, no themes, one judge, one winner.
  10. That's a pity. Themes can be fun and I have set them as well. But they do restrict people from posting. I wanted to post an entry this month, but I just didn't have a picture which met the theme. Perhaps from the New year we should think of scrapping the themes and making the rules that the picture 'must' have been taken the same or previous month, and a link to the cache log is required for proof? That way we keep it open to everyone who wants to participate, but keep it relevant to the time of year. I agree with Haggis Hunter. I would rather see as many photos as possible. I think the rules should be amended from January onwards. Thoughts anyone?
  11. I do offer an update service.... Regards, Martin Managed to download and use the UK maps, but will probably get back to you for the update when we need it.
  12. TT actually did the SD card for me. When I looked at the website to do it myself, it went into the too hard box.....
  13. Got a Tomtom, but we're probably getting the train down from Dublin to Europe's first. Not sure whether we're hiring a car as we're doing these few days away on the cheap. I've got a micro SD card of TT Maps which I'll be using, but it's a few years old.
  14. Not the UK so we'll disqualify ourselves now, but it's sometimes disconcerting what you can find stuck in the earth during a walk in the woods...... Discovered shortly after finding GC3A48T I wasn't that scared as I know I'm faster over 200 yards than Ali (and I had the car keys).
  15. It would appear that only Northern Ireland 1:50K maps are available from MemoryMap, not Southern Ireland. I guess you'll have to do what I did... ask around... beg... and finally give up your first born! Thanks, I'll give it a go!
  16. I assumed that they'd be freely available to buy by now as we've got memory map. Particularly interested in Dublin, Wicklow Mountains and the area around 'Europes First'.
  17. Any ideas if any have come out since the original posting?
  18. You've been playing it wrong. If the pub has got 'Arms' in the name it's minus 2 points.
  19. Added to the shopping list - good tip! Can you recommend any good DSLR training resources on the web? I'm too mean to pay for a book. I ummed and ahhed whether to send this as a PM or post here. Then decided it might help others, so I've posted it here. Mods, if I have broken any rules (I don't think I have!?), sorry! Beechers Handouts is detailed, possibly a bit too heavy going for a beginner, but covers everything. Digital Camera World and Photoanswers are good resources. PhotoAnswers is the website of Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazines. PP have, in the last 3 years, run a 6-part DSLR beginners course that is good, and made more effective by joining in with a Flickr group set up for students on the course, independent of the mag itself. I think they did a book version of the 2010 course. But when the course starts, they usually do an offer of the 6 issues for £10, in the hope you get hooked on the magazine. The course explains the basics in a simple way, using the magazine and videos, and sets you an exercise. It works well. Alternatively, get down to a library and take out one of the many books. I can't remember any of the titles I've borrowed from the library, but all of them have had useful bits. New rule 6) As a (probably) Semi-professional photographer (possibly trained by David Bailey)- Guanajuato is now banned from entering any photos into the monthly competition and will instead help the judges and offer advice and encouragement ......
  20. You win North to South maybe, but can you beat our East to West - Fiji to Alaska? (Also not a clue how the stats thing works)
  21. #1 first UK cachers to get caches on 5 continents. I think. (Spurious) #1 UK cachers for most cache types found. I'm guessing. (Spuriouser) (I promise not to mention the APE cache ) #1 UK cachers supporting Spurs. Made up. (Spuriouserer)
  22. The loosest of loose connections to geocaching, but given the debate about the temporary disabling of caches because of the Olympics; Took these before finding Windsor Great Park 1 The start of the 200km Kayak Sprint final at Eton Dorney. Will Ed McKeever of Team GB win the Gold after years of preparation? YES!!!! Number of hours pressing the refresh button on the 2012 ticketing website - we lost count Cost of tickets - £130 Favours promised to get shifts changed at work - loads & loads Seeing a British Athlete win an Olympic Gold Medal in my country - Priceless
