  1. My Uncle has a Palm m100 and wants to know if it can be used for paperless caching. I know nothing about what version it is. Yhanks for any help.
  2. Thanks...M500 it is. How many caches (roughly) will 8megs hold?
  3. I don't know a thing about either, but I can afford either. So which one of these two is the better cacher? I'm getting tierd of lugging around binders of paper around:)
  4. I heard from Garmin, for anyone who's interested, they will have a fix for my woes with the 520 in 2 to 3 weeks. How's that for service.
  5. Great price for a great unit. I wish I'd seen this a couple weeks ago before I paid almost $200 more ($511.00 CAN taxes and shipping from GPS City). I'm sending this to a friend along with some persuasion so keep your fingers crossed.
  6. I got one of these great units (CANADIAN RINO 520 with v2.3 software) about a week ago. It is just what the doctor ordered for the most part, but I do have a few issues that I am curious to find out if anybody else is having also. First, if I am navigating off road to a geocache, which enables the FOUND, NOTE, STOP options on the bottom of the Compass page, the found button is highlighted by default. From there I can use the thumbstick to move up, down, or right but if I touch the thumbstick to the left the unit freezes completely. It must then be shut down and re-booted. There is no "hard re-set" for these units, and I was already in contact with Garmin who told me this was the first they had heard of this problem, and that if I wished, I could send it back through Raytech to be repaired or replaced. I don't want to do this if other Canadian Units are doing the same thing. The lady at Garmin only had an American Unit to test and it was fine. The second issue is the re-calculation feature. On my Legend Cx, when the route options page was set to prompt for on/off road, I could choose follow road to a waypoint until I got as far as I could drive, then simply re-calculate and choose the off road option at the promt. My Rino 520 will not promt me again on a recalculate for on/off road. It simply recalculates the on road choice I made when I started the route. So instead of simply re-calculating I have to Stop Navigation, go to the Find menu, and begin a whole new route choosing off road this time to use the geocaching features built in to the off road Navigation page. ( Found, Note, Stop ) It is a pain when I know that with a line or two of strategically placed code it could be much quicker and simpler. I figure if enough of us 520 owners email Garmin Tech Support at techsupp@garmin.com with these issues, maybe it will help speed up the fix.

  9. I've had the Cx since August 2006. No, I don't know what the root cause is, only that it seems to be a fairly common problem with some of these units. Whatever they use for an addhesive seems to turn very gummy after a relativly short period of time. I suppose they don't want to use anything to permanant because they need to split the case to do work internally, and the seam is under the rubber.
  10. Can someone who has fixed the rubber band on a garmin legend with good results please tell me what you used to re-fasten it to the unit? Mine is gooey and sliding around, and I'd like to repair it myself. It is still under warranty, but I hate to send it in and be without it for weeks. I do have some really good 3M two faced tape about 1/2" wide and very thin. I found the link to the .PDF screen problem repair, but he doesn't go into detail about reattaching the rubber. Any help would be great. Thanks.
  11. I have a Legend Cx that is, of course connected via usb, to my PC. When connected, the power is coming from the computer rather than the batteries. My Rino, which I just picked up, is a com port serial connection. When I connect it to my PC, I am still using battery power. (The icon stays battery instead of changing to the power cord symbol which I know the Rino has because I've seen it in the manuel.) Is this the way it should be? Maybe it only uses external power when using an optional adapter? Oh so much to learn, so little time.
  12. Thanks...I think I'll save my pennies and sell my Legend Cx and buy a 520.
  13. Does anyone know if the Rino 520 will auto route with all mapping software that will do so? I heard that it will only do so with certain map versions. Thanks.
  14. I also was wondering the same thing and hope someone has an answer. You're right...the Garmin manual does leave alot of parts out.
  15. Thanks, The reset I've been using did not use the find button. I'll try that soon and see what happens. Does anyone know which sat I have to block from receiving its signal to get 48/51? Is it 33 or 35?
  16. Hey Paul...I'm sure I recognize you from one of the archery forums? (PSE maybe) A fellow bowhunter? Anyway I have no better advice then these guys for you EXCEPT...Keep one of your 60s until you see if you are truly satisfied with whatever you ultimatley choose. It's hard to go backwards sometimes and the 60 is an awsome unit. Have you had any hunting luck this year? I hope you find what you're looking for and good luck hunting. Wade
  17. I called Garmin and they said PAGE/ENTER/POWER and answer yes to reset. I did this many times and it does reset all user settings to default, it does erase all waypoints and saved tracks,it does place my pointer in Idaho or some such place until it gets my co-ords, but it doesn't seem to CLEAR the almanac. I say this because if I go right to the satalite page after the reset 33 and 35 are there on the bottom immediatly. (I don't alllow the gpsr to see 35 to the west) so it scrolls through the sats one by one. It goes to 46, then skips to 49,50 then right back to 35 without ever looking for the two new waas birds 48 and 51. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I am running the newest firmware 2.6 and would really like to get some waas correction here in the northeast. 35 is only visible when I am very high up with an unubstruted view and 33 is hollow. Does the almanac come from 33 or 35? I get D's across the board when 33 is coming in loud and clear, but the accuracy is still at about +/- 15 to 20 ft.(5-7m) instead of the 6-9ft I hear reported with 48 and/or 51 in the mix. I know it's not incredibly important, but if it's there I want it. I subscribed to the "ressetting GPSr to look at new waas birds" thread, but no-one has been talking about the Legend/VistaCx models.
  18. I love mine, but update the firmware to v2.6 as soon as you get the unit, wether it is the Legend or Venture. If you do it before you turn it on outside, you'll not experience the accuracy problems we faced with v2.5, and you will be able to recieve the almanac from sat 51 instead of 35. The 2 new waas birds 48-51, apparently can't be seen with v2.5? I love my Legend Cx. I did by a 256mb card for it, and I now use the 64mb that came with it to download maps of places farthur away than I normally go, so when I travel, all I do is swap the card. But Buxcamper is correct. For what Garmin want, you can buy a 1gig on ebay. If I'm not mistaken, the Venture comes with a magnetic compass and barometric altimeter. Both units are a great deal with the rebate.
  19. Thanks Itchytweed. Will try again when I know they're up.
  20. I did the reset on my Legend Cx running V 2.6, blocked it from getting 33 and 35 and as it scrolls through the sats it hits 46 then jumps to 49, then 50 and right back to 35 without even trying to find 48 or 51. The reset I did is as per Garmins instructions. Hold down page and enter while powering up, answer yes to "are you sure" , enable waas before uncovering antenna, block 35 (which I don't get often anyway) and still nothing. Am I missing something? Anyone else with a Legend Cx having any luck?
  21. I downloaded 2.6 the day it came out and can also say beyond doubt that it has improved my Legend Cx 100%. This is at caches ( actually zeroed out at zero on two "clear sky" caches), my own waypoints, and at a local benchmark. I'm satisfied my problems are behind me and now love my Cx.
