  1. I've recently decided that when I'm done with school at the end of the summer I'm going to take a week or two weeks to take a caching trip. Figure it will be the best time to take a trip, since afterwards I have to find a job...
  2. My grandfather is the one who got me into this wonderful hobby. And from there my dad has joined in except for he doesn't log any of his finds since he hates computers. I got my teenage nephews into caching and they just got their very own GPS. So around our family it's a family event to all go caching with one another.
  3. Yeah and after hearing about you getting in trouble with the cast I've been cautious to remember I have my limits in my walking cast. Briansnat, I'm sorry to hear you have to be on crutches so long. After 2 months, I continually wished I could leave mine on the side of the road. Hope for a quick recovery for ya!
  4. I'm torn... I would love to pull for Tracy but then I read she was a Tar Heel sports fan.... being a die hard Duke Blue Devil sports fan.... I just don't know if I can pull for her.... But I know why any male that is a geocacher would pull for her....
  5. Haven't been hurt badly while caching but I did recently break my leg so I understand the injury slowing you down. I did however go out caching in Ohio after they had a snow storm with my crutches. It was at our last cache of the night before heading to their coffee talk event. We had a beautiful view of downtown Cleveland at night during th holidays and I missed the patch of black ice. I slipped and caught myself with my broken leg... boy did that hurt like ****! After that I was happy to go to the event but it definitely ruined my caching mood, because it reminded me quickly that I wouldn't be able to cache like I normally did. Hoping for good weather for you so you can continue to cache.
  6. There was a flash mob event on the Cape Fear river in Wilmington, NC, which was rated a 5/5. I did not get a chance to attend but I do know that the rating was correct. Wind produced white caps on the river and everyone was kayaking. One cacher fell in, another ended up a mile down the river... they were all lucky they survived.
  7. I definitely agree this is a great opportunity to see what handicapped people have to deal with and because of this I'm definitely going to take this in consideration when I place caches. I now have plenty of time to make some new caches so I'm thinking a lot of handicap accessible caches will be placed in the future. Thanks for the shared stories. Please keep them coming.
  8. Well last night I broke my leg in two places while sliding into second base, and I decided to start this topic. I can't drive right now for caching so it started to make me wonder about others with injuries. What kind of injuries have you had while being a cacher? And, how did/ does the injury(s) effect your caching? I have a feeling this may slow me down a bit and now I'll have to filter the caches a lot more for park and grabs. I know this is a random topic for caching, but the boredom is kicking in.
  9. Is FRS the same frequency used for car/ truck CB's?
  10. About a year ago, I logged an archived cache because I was able to find the container and signed the log. Then the following day at an event the cache owner asked me about it. It seemed that people kept finding the cache but when he went to check on it he couldn't find it. So I explained what I had found and where I found it. Because it was a unique container he knew I had found the cache... but the reason he couldn't find his own cache is because someone didn't put it back where it was originally placed. And I got to keep my smilie.
  11. Oops... missed the scuba part of your request... here's what I have so far: No worries on the scuba... I like the picture because it looks more like a female but is there anyway to cut back on the hair just a bit? Maybe about shoulder length...
  12. When Dakota Fanning was in town filming Hound Dog and promoting Charlotte's Web she had a constant run in with a local cacher and one of the times she found him geocaching and began looking for the cache with him.... however she didn't sign the log...
  13. Well I have drawn something of what I was looking for but after seeing what designers here have come up with I was hoping for a little help. This is what I have so far. I want him to look more like a girl with wild and crazy hair. I was also wanting to try and add something related to scuba diving or to the beach. Or would that be too much??? Anyone with any other suggestions or anyone that can help me out? Any help is greatly appreciated. Especially since I'm obviously no real artist...
  14. As much as I hate to admit it there are geocachers that are cache bandits. Why someone would want to ruin a fun hobby like geocaching I have yet to figure out. But I attempted a 5 stage multi out in the middle of nowhere and the first stage could not have been found without having knowledge about geocaching. Cachers in the area even had to ask the hider for hints because it was hidden so well. Even found the bandits calling card... they called themselves GeoPirates. Luckily I knew the cache owner and he was able to give me coordinates to the next stage... Come to find out all of the stages were missing and they weren't close to each other at all so I can't imagine they were stumbled upon. The cache owner had deleted someones log and thats who he assumes it was. Did you guys by any chance delete someones find log or make someone mad in any emails? If so... I don't want to accuse but they would be the first suspects. Otherwise it really could have been a muggle. Never know when or where nature will call and that could have caused someone to be in that area and they could have stumbled upon it. As for replacing the container... I say use a lock-n-lock container if you can't find any cheaper ammo cans. Or you can stock up with them like I do. Never know when you will come upon a great cache spot. And like a good boy/girl scout you should always be prepared.
  15. Just make sure you remember to silence the phone before holding it up to your ear... as soon as it rings your cover will be blown.
  16. I started with a Magellan 210 and upgraded to the 600. I personally like the Magellan but I agree with the earlier statement of trying out a friends and choosing what works best for you.
  17. I'm a Chemistry Masters student so I really appreciate that someone is looking into Geocaching for their research. I hope your research goes well. Survey completed!
