  1. upkeep in terms of mowing the grass, picking up litter, restoring damaged headstones, etc. Every township in our county is in charge of the upkeep of it's cemeteries so long as it is not on private property. Our county does a really good job of preserving, cataloging, and upkeeping all of our cemeteries. The county to our north, they just let thiers waste away.
  2. I actually talked to a lawyer about this recently. I have about 30 geocaches hidden in abandoned cemeteries through my home county. In my will I asked that I be buried in one of these old cemeteries with a headstone made to resemble the old headstones. My lawyer contacted the the township that "ownes" the cemetery. They did some research and stated that since it is now abandoned, it can no longer accept human remains. If they did, they would have to be reclassified as a in use cemetery. The way to get around that is cremation as that no longer constitutes as "human remains." The township said so long as I donated some money from my estate to their upkeep fund, they would gladly give me a plot to bury my ashes and erect a headstone. Kind of off topic but just throwing that out there.
  3. Thanks everyone. I'll probably just log it as found. It's not the end of the world if I'm incorrect.
  4. I try to log benchmarks as honestly as possible. i'll be heading to the DC area over Labor Day weekend and was looking for benchmark types I currently do not have. There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not this one is logable. What does everyone here think?
  5. I am sorry about the family issues, but the news regarding a release is fantastic news. This is the app I have been waiting on an update for. I can't wait to try it out.
  6. I do quite a bit of benchmarking in Indiana. As I said in my play store review, the only feature I'm missing is a way to manually or automatically denote or color benchmarks that have been found as well as an option to remove or again color those I know are missing/destroyed. This is a feature I'd be willing to pay as much as $5 for in a paid version. If you need any additional input please feel free to reach out to me.
  7. I had a magnetic container that was shoved so far up a sign post that I couldn't get it back down. I wadded up some duct tape inside out so the sticky part was on the outside and wadded it around a nearby stick. After some fishing I finally got the container to stick to the tape.
  8. fill in my Jasmer Challenge (need 24 months still) fill in my Alphanumeric Challenge by cache (just Z left) name and hider (quite a few to go) finish my top 10 of Indiana series bu favorite points (2 left) balance out my DT grid better have fun and visit more amazing places
  9. There are few of those caches here in SE Indiana History of Airmail Arrows #1 History of Airmail Arrows #2 History of Airmail Arrows #3 The gentleman that hid is huge into benchmarking as well.
  10. I adopted a cache before finding it. While searching, I almost had to DNF it . It's tricky! I logged the Find, which seemed OK to me. Although it's unpopular around here, I went back and switched those from "Found it" to "Post Note." I can always switch it back if need be and to me the star is more important than the smiley.
  11. The Jasmer Challenge and D/T challenge ... Last fall I drove to Florida (as a rookie) from Indiana and I could have targeted these.
  12. Dang ... it wouldn't happen to be a bluetooth Garmin Glo that was in the woods of the Blue River Park north of Shelbyville? I lost it there in June after finding Once Was. I ended up having to buy a new one.
  13. Hell I got a "SL" the other day and assumed it meant "soggy log". I learned something new.
  14. Fallen Civil War Soldiers from Decatur County ... an easy two stage multicache. Most of my caches are cemetery caches in my county in which I point out the graves of Civil War soldiers as well as other soldiers. In order to do this I had to basically rewrite our county's count of Civil War dead cause it was FUBAR'd beyond belief. The library then asked me to print it as a book. I gave a copy to them and all of the surrounding county libraries. The first stage is a piece of laminated paper that gives the call number to the book. Attached to the back is the log, one of those old cards you used yo have to sign to check out the book.
  15. You are a PM, you can edit your milestone to the right one. Also why change to notes? You found it then adopted it. It'll still show up in both places, just on the map it shows as a smiley for you. I prefer to see the star over the smiley. If Groundspeak ever fixes it to show the star on adopted caches then i can always go back and change the note to found it.
  16. The crappy part about that is that all your milestones will now be shifted. I had a great #500 milestone I was very proud of. I was saving it for that number. When I went back to remove the duplicate logs (five of them) my #500 was a nano on a Wendy's dumpster. Sigh. As a side note, since my milestones were thus fubar'd, I went back and changed the "found it" logs on the 4 or 5 cemeteries I had found then adopted to just notes so it would show a star and not a smiley.
  17. 2013 Chevy Spark. The thing has been a beast. I've taken it through creek beds, fields, snow up to it's fenders, and up steep hills and it's never struggled. Add in 34 mpg average and I'm one happy cacher. BTW, there's a cache just to the left of my back driver's side tire.
  18. My two boys Mr. Ryan finds his first cache Mr. Carter accompanying me on a trip
  19. There are a number of examples of this in my home county. There was a rail line that no longer exists and is now farming fields. The best example is JZ2132 and JZ2133 which are now on property located on Honda's newest facility.
  20. I saw one the other day that was blank. there was not a single word or character typed.
  21. Since this is the getting started forum, the first thing I tell beginners is always wear heavy jeans. I don't care if it's 102 degrees outside. Unless you know you're not going to stray from a parking lot, wear jeans. Long sleeve t-shirts are a bonus as well if you can tolerate them in the heat.
  22. I guess the pictures of my Spark didn't work and it's too late to edit the post. I present, my spark. High Bridge GC3QKR1 Benchmark JZ2825
  23. NGS site - since GC's database is over ten years old now, I didn't see a need to tie into it. (You can be taken TO the GC page when viewing a marker, though..) No estimated release at the moment, though if I were to guess, I'd say sometime this winter. (I know, bad timing, but..) I will look forward to it and let me know if i can help in any way. i actually found most of my county marks this past winter so that's not a big deal to me.
  24. Brian, I say rate it what you feel like in your heart it should be. We'll still do it and let you know if it should be changed in the future.
