  1. Most reviewers will let you slide on a cache far from home if you can have a local person that can get to the cache in a timely manner. If it is your old home you more than likely have some one there, not necessarily a geocacher even, that can go check on it for you if there is something wrong between trips.
  2. Found a tick, luckily not embedded, after geocaching last week. Although fewer in numbers they are still out in the winter.
  3. What you are failing to realize is neither one of you is the copyright holder. The words and image together are bound by the copyright of the Boy Scouts. Neither one of you are the originators and therefore you both infringing on the Boy Scouts copyright. An argument could be made for the public domain, but that would entitle both of you to use.
  4. I use vista and leave them zipped with no problem. When the e-mail comes in I right click on the zip file and chose save as. I save to the same folder each time. I then go to GSAK and choose open gpx/loc and it does the trick.
  5. 40 and the Geo-monkeys are 10, 8, and almost 4.
  6. What outside sources or sites are there for solving picture puzzles anyway? I stumbled upon this GCZM91 and have no idea even where to start.
  7. I was previewing some caches along a route and google maps wouldn't load. Went back to my pocket queries page and no preview in google icon. Then checked a cache page and google maps had been replaced with yahoo maps.
  8. Caches along a route will do that for you. It is a little more involved than a PQ, but can give you all the caches within a distance you select from your route. For instance, you can set the caches along a route to give you all the caches within 1 mile of M40 in the area you travel.
  9. My local craft store has some spray for photos to protect from UV fading. It is manufactured by Krylon and called "Protect it!" for digital photo's and paper. $4.99 a can. Might work.
  10. I think it depends on your area and the number of caches(and types) in your area. I live in an area where mostly urban caches are placed and there is indeed a race for FTF. If you do not leave the house within a few minutes of getting the cashe publication e-mail, you are likely to be third. I see where your cache is a multi, from what I see in the forums multi's and puzzles seem to get less traffic than a regular cashe also.
  11. After reading some of the other threads, I got some Shrinky Dink Ink Jet plastic at my nearby big box craft store and made some cool plastic chips with my girl's pictures on it. The prices were reasonable and they made a great half inch by one inch plastic calling card for us.
  12. I just reciently allowed an account for my 10 year old. She likes having a name to sign in the log and being able to search for caches in our area. She dosen't give a flip about her online logs all she cares about is having a proper handle for when we are out. No accounts for my 3 and 7 yo's who don't care about signing the logs or logging online, all they want to do is trade. I try to mention who was with me when I log online, so there is some record. It is entirely up to you. My best answer is, when they are ready.
  13. If my GPSr won't lead me right to it, how can I take all the TB's and Geocoins?
  14. Got to admit to watching it too and thinking the same thing. I do have the excuse of having 3 daughters (ages 10-3.5). I think it was on every tv in my house.
  15. I am also a n00b, but I am starting to get better in finding things. First, know what size you are looking for as said above. The hiding places for a micro are much different than that of a regular. Micro's now are much smaller than a 35mm film can. I am seeing a ton of magnetic "nanno's", they are about the size of the end of your pinkey and can be devilish to find. Sume urban hints - if you gps points at a light pole in a parking lot, lift the skirt. If there is a storm water drain in the area, look for something hanging by a string. If bushes are present, look for something connected to the branches. In the woods, look for an odd pile of sticks or rocks, survey the area if it has been found by a few people there will most likely be a "geo" trail leading in the right direction. Don't be afraid to consult the hint as some are very helpful, some are not. As also said previously, pay attention to the logs and the difficulty ratings. Good luck.
  16. check the logs online, the first one is the reviewer publishing the cache.

    GSAK

Just switched GSAK over last night to a new vista machine. The only suggestion is to place it into C:/GSAK instead of C:/program files/GSAK. You have to aprove it each time it is run from the the program files location.
  18. If your Legend is like my Vista HCx, this might work: Find->Waypoints->Find key->Delete...->All Symbols->Yes (to delete all waypoints). I haven't tried this as I really don't want to delete all my waypoints, but it seems likely to work. Thanks for the help it let me delete by symbol from there so I was able to delete all the caches and keep my other waypoints. Now I just have to reload from GSAK.
  19. Just got my Legend HCX last week and I have been trying to add waypoints with GSAK. Now I have three of each geocache in my unit. Is there a way to delete waypoints in mass or am I going to have to get Carpal Tunnel by selecting each one and deleting seperately? Unfortunately the users guide and the garmin website have not helped.
  20. Got my Legend HCX on Thursday (Ordered from Ebay) and played with it over the weekend. Gotta say I love it. I think I even sold my uncle on one too.
