  1. Since they are giving us so long to do this, I vow not to actively seek any of the caches and just see how long it takes me to get it without any effort. Come on Groundspeak. We enjoy working for things that require effort. This requires no effort from anyone who finds a few caches a month. Weak.
  2. LOL! YASSSSS!!! The only way to cache. Except, I have Ohio. I need DE, MD, and DC. So actually I am getting #48 and #49 this week. Sorry about the error. Then AK in two weeks. Will have 50 states done and during The Rona!
  3. Outstanding! The sole purpose of the forums! Now I gotta get back to uploading photos and videos of my cache adventures. Knocking out states #47-49 this week.
  4. So all of those different states and regions require a lot of different reviewers. How did Dr. Alien meet them all and brainwash all of them? You can tell someone doesn't understand how reviewing works by such a statement. I am still learning, but as Keystone said, there is a reviewer forum and anytime you try and publish something new and unique, the reason it takes a while to get back to you is they are debating it in their own private forum and you know 100% that is monitored and guided by Groundspeak. Why all the angst? Just go out and Geocache! Life is too short to worry about space trash.
  5. Yeah a bunch of this "space trash" as one local logger described them is in our area too, but I met a guy claiming to be Dr. Alien and he seemed cool. I am not really sure who he was now, but I can tell from the Geocaching Podcasts it wasn't OnABoat. Our locals are not feeling too alienated because of it and are enjoying the finds for their streaks and 366 day calendars. I even think we had a thief taking the hides, which only hurt those that went to go find them next more than anyone else. The beauty of this game is it is what you make it. If you don't like a particular hide style, skip it. I hate bush caches. I do not want to find them. That doesn't mean I go around hating the people that plant them or steal them. I just skip them and move on to more worthy finds. Sometimes I search for caches in the desert in bushes for some stupid reason. Caching can be many things to many different people.
  6. Yeah this just came up when I tried to get a PGC Leap Day Lab Cache Icon. It said I completed the Adventure Lab on 3/1/20 instead of Leap Day. A bummer, but that just gives me something to do in four years. And on an aside I picked up a Frau Potter Lackey TB at Potters Pond in 2017. I just actually made it part of my Adventure Lab I just planted!!!
  7. I finally found a good spot to find the links to all of the information about planting adventure labs on the forums page. However, can we get that included on the adventure labs page somewhere? I attached images of what I am talking about. When I got to help people on Facebook learn more about Adventure Labs, having a one stop shop would be great.
  8. I didn't really want to go the first time. I have no interest in returning. Thankfully Midwest Geobash will get me 3/4 of my last states and leave me with just one remaining and it has the Adventure Maze. 15 Icon Day!!!
  9. I am aware of that. Stupid as can be. I am not sure I should even upload photos as background anymore. There really is no point. You cannot see them and why would I want to upload them twice? When my caches publish we can check out how dumb this is.
  10. I tried that too. Got it down to 1000 pixels wide and it still said no. The .pngs are uploading that size no problem. I think the worst part of this is that I cannot upload the image like I used to and describe the image and give it a title. That way it was displayed on the cache page and people could see the image in its entirety and get a description. I don't like this format at all. I am sure it is great for the technologically inept. However, most of us are not and like our function and flexibility.
  11. Yup. I turned off HEIC when I got my new phone. Just tried again and no go. Here is the file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x1vl73b221m7c29/IMG_5935.JPG?dl=0 I just opened it in Paint and downsized it to a smaller size and saved as .png and it went right in. Lame.
  12. .jpg taken from my iPhone. I resized it to less than 5 MB. It would not drop and drag nor upload link. I will try it again on the next cache I am I working on in a few minutes. I just uploaded another .jpg no problem so I think it doesn't like my iPhone photos. They are .jpg.
  13. All I know is I just tried to submit my first cache with this and I don't like it. It wouldn't accept my .jpg so then I had to convert it to a .png and then it was too big. And even then, now the image can't be viewed by looking at it at the bottom of the page by clicking on it so I would likely have to upload it and host it again. Pretty lame.
  14. I just planted a cache using it and it is not optimal. It wouldn't accept my .jpg so I had to convert it to a .png. Then it was too big so I had to downsize it. I don't really like it at all. Also, I liked uploading the photo and then pasting the URL there because people could still click on the photo and see it in its entirety if they didn't like the tile or too big affect behind the cache page. Yeah I am not a fan.
  15. I love webcam caches. They might be my favorite type. I would love to see an opt in Webcam redux like Virtual 2.0. It would be awesome. And by doing that, you refresh the board a bit and then when a webcam is broken, you just recommend it be archived. They don't retain as much scarcity so losing one wouldn't be as big a deal. I still don't understand why some people don't want to see them come back. Like any other cache out there, if it isn't your cup of tea, simply don't find it. It shouldn't matter to you if they come back if you aren't going to find them anyway. It is this same attitude that ruined challenge caches. If I see a stupid challenge cache, I simply don't find it. That question mark in a sea of smilies is not a threat to my existence. A new webcam cache will not harm you. Bring them back! Although I have been publishing UnWebcam caches too. https://coord.info/GC7QP3Q https://coord.info/GC7Q5HY https://coord.info/GC7Q5G8 https://coord.info/GC7PW75
  16. I am sure the new change to easily upload a background image into a new cache listing is for those that do not have most of our advanced skills. And I actually don't mind it that much. However, where I used to be able to input the link and could use hosting from anywhere or even from pre-existing caches or events, I now have to upload the image again. I would imagine this would suck up a lot of storage space. After my CITO event publishes I will see if I can go edit it again like I used to. If not, is it possible to have the new feature and still have the old input for the URL too? Thank you.
  17. This sums up the issue perfectly. I used the right click new tab all the time. Now I must do B. It is annoying and I do liked the functionality of the old system.
  18. GC12 was a mess when I found it back in 2016. If someone replaced the bucket for him, that is not a throwdown. The cacher found the cache and signed the log. A throwdown is when you cannot find the cache and you replace it. If someone removed the old leaky bucket without permission, that is not a throwdown, that is theft.
  19. I disagree. After a warning, this is the only thing HQ can do. They cannot stop this guy from posting on Facebook. So the only thing to do is to make people that might keep doing it without owner permission scared to lose something they do care about, their access and finds. I bet the number of discovers has already decreased. No one can control what happens to their trackable number if they let it loose into the public realm. You own the trackable piece of metal, but you cannot own a number and you cannot own a page on someone else's website. However, that makes an interesting question. Where are these lists coming from? Was there a breach? Is it random generation with verification? That might soon be the bigger issue.
  20. Animals are the least of my worries. They are quite predictable. It is humans I am concerned about, yet I have yet to really run into any questionable humans. I just carry a Glock 27 while caching and try to pay attention to my surroundings. Which is a challenge while caching sometimes. You just have to keep working at it. Usually in the desert I bring a rifle too, but California keeps banning the best rifles to tote along. I guess I could start bringing the M1 Garand along again. Honestly your best protection is your brain. Stay out of areas that seem wrong and if you see something happening, take action. Your car is also a great protection device. Drive away or drive over the threat.
  21. The game is that way for some people. Other people like virtual finds. The game is what you make it. However, I do see people's point that their version of the game is not to allow people to make virtual finds and it is a major pain having to delete logs or lock trackables. Groundspeak is trying to do something about it. This whole thing will be interesting to follow.
  22. Holy smokes! He just stepped up his game! https://www.facebook.com/GeocacheTBSpoiler/posts/168788951172119?__tn__=K-R
  23. Really if you look at the Travel Bug Guidelines, that is exactly the guideline HQ has set up. I think there is value in having a discovery option, even if abused. Unfortunately once the number is out there, you cannot do much about it. Except do what HQ recommends. I don't think they are going to take action as removing discovery doesn't necessarily remove the problem, but possibly compounds it. If these people have no discovery option, they might resort to picking up your TB. Now that would be bad. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.printer.friendly&id=10#p708
  24. I was just thinking about this and removing discoverable could be a bad move. If people cannot discover you trackable, would they then just grab it or retrieve it from where it is at? Discovering TBs might actually be a safety valve to keep people from screwing with your trackable in an even worse fashion. Although discoveries might be annoying, at least my TB location is still accurate. This was my concern. I had no idea about that page nor Project GCs mass logging ability. All this is doing is making it easier and more attractive for me to discover bugs. Ignorance was bliss. This whole uproar might be making the problem worse.
