  1. Why does that bother you? Active runtime on a pair of AAA batteries in a M105 is 6-8 WEEKS! Couple that with the fact that the M105 can store thousands of caches in CacheMate make it a very good option for paperless caching.
  2. If you can use a GPS, you can use a Palm Pilot. The Palm IIIs are the VW bug (60's not the new ones) of the PDA world...
  3. For cables to hook stand-alone PDAs and GPSs, try http://pc-mobile.net/home2.htm Your new PDA has an SD slot, so an SD-based GPS add-on would work as well....
  4. When I purchased it, I received the option to redeem 5 different sync names....take that how you will... Better yet, don't ask here, ask at Smittyware.com, as they make the rules for CacheMate..almost everyone here is just an armchair lawyer making a guess as to the intent of the software's author... And yes, it IS a great program!
  5. I've refurbished lots of PDAs, and I did some testing a while back to see what a 2 meg PDA could do with CacheMate. I found that I could load over 1400 caches (with 5 log entries each) before filling the PDAs memory. By that reasoning, anything that will run CacheMate (CacheMate requires Palm OS 3.0 or later.) will be fine for the average cacher. Anything above and beyond Palm OS 3.0 and 2 megs of RAM is just gravy...
  6. Correct, only low-end models do not have backlighting. I use my Zire 31 as a makeshift flashlight from time to time....
  7. 1.) I have a reconditioned Handspring Visor Edge, metal flip cover, adapter socket cover, Springboard adapter, USB cradle, and power supply. PDA case is practically new, the screen has no blemishes. Come with a 30 day warranty against functionality issues. This one is metallic blue. It does NOT include a stylus The Visor Edge is an 8 meg PDA. Software can be downloaded from www.palm.com for free. Price on this is $30 shipped to anyone in the lower 48, anywhere else, contact me first. Payment via PayPal, money order or personal check. Item ships within 24 hours of the payment clearing MY bank. 8. Can you use a serial connection to connect to your PC? If so, I have a couple options for you that would work fine.
  9. No worries...if its PDA related, I seem to have run across it. (I owned a HandyGPS for a while) For what it's worth, the HandyGPS isn't the greatest GPS module to be using for geocaching (I'm not sure if that's what you are using it for, but you ARE at geocaching.com!). If your son really wants to geocache, I'd recommend almost anything else to use. It will work....but it's frustrating, trust me I did it for a (short) while. You can get some very good deals here on the Garage Sale forum, and if nothing else, lots of free advice from people "in-the-know". There is a Magellan Springboard module for the Visor that seems to get a much more favorable review. Cheers, TheBattons
  10. Try this: http://web.archive.org/web/20050204003416/...ad/download.asp Cheers!
  11. You're used to that Ohio sun...down here in Florida, we fry our eggs on the sidewalk-at sunrise! Actually, It's mentioned as an issue in several reviews, and I just wanted any prospective buyers to know about what others say...I crank my contrast way up, and deal with it, as it offers everything I could want in a PDA-color, MP3 player, expandability(SD cards), and speed. The little thing is faster and has more RAM than my first PC, didn't cost $2000, and doesn't weigh 40 pounds! Insane how technology advances so fast.... Thanks
  12. For sale, a Zire 31, w/USB hotsync/charger cable, stylus $55 For what it's worth, the Zire 31 uses a (insert an obscure technical term) screen that is hard to see in very bright light (like sunlight!), however, I live in Florida, have LOTS of sunlight, and I carry one as my personal PDA. I just make sure to view it in my own shadow while in bright light, and it works fine for me. This particular unit has some minor case wear, but a pristine screen, with no scuffs scratches or dings. Comes with a personal 30 day warranty against functionality issues. Price includes ConUS shipping (AK,HI or Canada add $4). I accept PayPal, money orders or personal checks. I ship once the payment has cleared (PayPal immediately, MO upon receipt, checks 3-14 days). PLEASE ask questions if you have them! I answer PDA and paperless caching questions for free- before and after a sale, and even if you never become a customer (it saves trees!), so don't hesitate to ask a question. A link to my eBay rating is in my profile. I can offer references from previous buyers from this board if needed. Cheers!
  13. Just got mine...all charged up, even had the proper time/date set. Now to see if it will work with my carrier.... Cheers!
