  1. quote:Originally posted by Mark_Chris:The map on the GPS is not that out of date, but the map does not line up with the track produced when navigating. Not sure if this is the case with other GPS's (anyone care to comment). Is this anything to do with the map datum? Just a thought.
  2. We're happy with our ETrex and a printout from multimap. Didn't think the extra mapping was worth the extra cache [edit: oops! I meant cash, but I think I might just leave that little mistake in!], but that might just be our being technophobes.
  3. Our stamp (also from Make Your Mark) was non-inking. It was 14.95 inc. postage for a 30x20mm. Service is quick, and the carving is accurate. The ink pad caused fun - Staples did one which said it had a snap-shut lid, but it didn't stay shut, so took it back. There was actually no mechanism at all which could have held it shut. WHSmiths do one which _does_ stay shut! The pad box also makes a nice hard surface for stamping on.
  4. I guess we don't use self-inking because of our letterboxing. You need a pad anyway for that, so we went for the cheaper stamp. As for morseman's suggestion: sounds like a good one. Bit of epoxy should sort it out!
  5. you'll enjoy it! we got our GPS from www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk we got the most basic Garmin (the yellow eTrex) and have had no real problems. we didn't think we'd need the car power adapter/pc cable so didn't buy it at first. then got it about a fortnight later! have fun. Stu
  6. We got our stamp for letterboxing from 'Make Your Mark' in York. http://www.manik.u-net.com/ Just provide a drawing, or MS Word document. You can see it on the Laughter Tor logbook, or any of the logs we've visited! http://tinyurl.com/2rkp We always carry our stamp and ink pad, the problem with leaving stuff in the cache is that it could freeze, or get stolen. Hopefully, people are clever enough not to remove the rubber stamp.
  7. We use the little yellow etrex (the cheapest you can get) and are perfectly happy with it. Haven't used up all the waypoints or anything silly like that, yet. We did change a few of the setup options to their more technical versions (skymap vs. sat strength meter). Overall we've had no problems. Computer interface is good, as is the power interface. Battery life not bad also.
