  2. I found it http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...4-a49d5bb53fbc# GC2A3Y0 SEVERN RIVER
  3. missed it by that much,,, I thought the Crowsnest Pass was not the place this one was at
  4. You should get a free account at NRCAN see http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/online_data_e.php this will then let you search for more databases,, the Canadian High precision Network has several control stations of very high order in several locations in each province These are set up to allow GPS users access to precise survey point locations to calibrate their receivers,, As mentioned above the survey control point may be listed as a First Order point but it's coordinates may not be updated in the data base,, do the research or if you want I can find a point close to you if you want,, send info to me,,
  5. It looks like someone does not getting the facts straight. Like most cases like this , there will always be a degree of animosity between parties and until both parties meet in court will the proper answers be told If the children do like going on a treasure hunt then get them out often,,start them with their own account so they can "BRAG' about all the finds they discovered, travel bugs traded and events they went to. This will give some good evidence of their enjoyment. Take lots of pictures, have a great time,
  6. And the total attendees is???
  7. 2 m accuracy at that current time and place may not be the same accuracy as when the cache was hidden. especially when hunting older caches and in the middle of a wet forest. Radio signals don't like travelling through water so the location may be off a bit. just try this,, go outside and turn your GPSr on and get a location,, note the accuracy then cover the part with the antenna in ( normally the top ) with your hand leave it there for a few seconds and note the accuracy.. same applies to wet or snow covered trees,, Your GPSR will give you the best location based on the current time and conditions,, and will vary from the original one that hid the cache,, Time for the drunken Bee dance,,,,,,,,
  8. I too served in 2RCHA,, for a less than 10 months but that was when our survey sections got replaced by a GPSR and other less manpower intensive survey systems,, UBIQUE!!!
  9. Precision Lightweight GPS Receiver PLGR hahahaaa it was light compared to a normal GPSr that we used back then. It was bulky and did not like the cold but it worked great I was an Artillery surveyor for several years and used all types of GPSR, the smallest we used were the old 1 channel Magellans. Then the CF bought the PLGR a godsend for positioning,, with less than 1 -3 meters accuracy Now they are using smaller receivers and lots of soldiers have their own either Garmin or Magellan,, now they use GPSr in everything from weather balloon telemetry trackers to Artillery guided projectiles,,
  10. You are not the only one . I taught PLGR when it was first introduced in 1996, Now I am retired and have a great time Geocaching
  11. Looking for Atlantic Canada Geocaching Association ACGA Gold Prince Edward Island and Gold Newfoundland coins to finish the set
  12. Thanks but I think that this is going to be a normal happening. I am sure we would like every cacher to sign the log as part of the game. But as mentioned in several other forums caching teams do not always remain together, My wife and I started caching together but she has started to gain more FTF than me and wanted to proudly show that fact,, She has her own account now and is considering logging all the finds we had together,, I am not going to go to every cache I have and verify all the logs,, It would take me a very long time, I will be doing a maintenance run on some later in the spring,, Let's play the game and have lots of fun doing it,,
  13. I see that this is happening in lots of places,, I just had another "new" cacher log a find from July 2007
  14. ok thanks Guess I won't get to wrapped up in it..
  15. recently we have been getting logs from a cacher who has created an account in the past few weeks. They have now proceeded to log all the finds that they were at or apparently at. To make it clearer, the person visited the cache with a cacher several months ago, even years, and is now claiming all the visits as finds, for the reviewers,, is this practice allowed, as I do not now if it fits the guidelines I understand that some folks do want to claim their finds, but they may not have followed the rules

    Bench Marks

numbers are numbers,, I grabbed a few Benchmark while in the US a while ago. The word I heard on Benchmarks and Groundspeak it that the Cdn Govt offers this information for free and is not going to let Groundspeak charge user to access the data,, No biggy as far as I am concerned, you can always grab a Benchmark Waymark if it is listed there and get your numbers up on those.. I have a few waymarked, I always thought that it is a good way to assist surveyors by letting them know the monuments are still OK,, I was a surveyor in the army and hated it when a survey marker was gone missing,,
  17. We had the same trouble with the Etrex Vista we bought - disabling WAAS solved the problem. had the same problem,, I dropped it once and then ik kept doing the same thing so we bought new ones.. must be a loose connection in it..
  18. St-Louis-de-Ha-Ha oh no that is west,,, Ochiichagwebabigoining somewhere in Ontario the Cree and Ojibway have long names for some things Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump I always thought this was a good names for a place,, but I know what the other is, I guess they must have had arguments while drinking screech and could not decide on the name of the place
  19. Lower Musquodoboit Harbour , Nova Scotia does it have to be one word,, (not specified)
  20. I agree with this but would it not make it a bit easier if there was some way Groundspeak could make it a lot easier. The reviewers have a lot to do for this type of activity and I am sure they to would like an easy way to do it. I suggest that Groundspeak consider some oprions 1. place a software button on the cache page where the Cache owner could set it as ACTIVE of NOT Active when the batch of caches need to be, This way the reviewers could do their part by reviewing and approving the caches and then the cache owner would activate the cache at the appropriate time This would be a one time thing for any cache needed to be placed for cache placement event, 2, place a DATE field on the cache page so when the cache is being create a date "When Active" is entered. then the database automatically releases it after it is reviewed and ready to go. I understand that this might take some time to do but it would make things work a lot easier, We like doing this type of event in Atlantic Canada and have great gatherings, and I would like to do more, and have it done with less work on both parts of the approval process
  21. I got mine last week,, but where oh where will I place it
