  1. Doesn't matter who logs online first, only one found the cache first. If you were STF, just say so in your log and mention the FTF with an "attaboy" if you like. If you were FTF, proudly say so in your log even if you were delayed in getting online. If keeping track, programs like GSAK will pick it up for you.
  2. Please keep logs on benchmarks short, noting condition and changes in the surroundings (old house in description gone, old hwy now known as OH xx ). A photo or two always welcome.
  3. I walked into a broken branch in a rest area in CT while caching, caught it hard enough to scrape skin through the jeans and leave a mark on the thigh. A few inches higher, and the quarter mile back to the truck would have been a bit difficult.
  4. Thank you, I couldn't have said it any better! I would be appreciative for a replacement container,,, if you contact me first or if you had found the cache previously. Otherwise, please don't try to do me any favors. I can't tell ya'll how many times i've gotten dnfs on some of our caches but then found that they were in place when i checked on them. I DO NOT want two cache containers (the one you threwdown is most likely inferior anyway) at my cache site. Just let me know with a dnf log and i'll check into it. And by the way, come on people. Even if you throw down a container, how do you claim a find on a cache you didn't find in the first place? Agree entirely. And because I can be a real horse's patoot, I will take the inferior container to the trash can, and delete the found logs of whomever left it. Find my cache or log DNF.
  5. Someone, besides your toe, was having a bad day. You told the story of your adventure as intended. Nice log.
  6. Don't give up. My first find took two trips, spotted an anomaly along a tree trunk that gave it away (camoed spice jar tied to a crepe myrtle). When arriving at a site, stop and look around asking "where would I have put it!". Telling on myself as a new cacher, in the my first 10 finds I bumped my head on one and sat pondside looking at cattails for 30 minutes to see another, both were in plain sight. Gotta love it!
  7. MMAP, for some it is only about the hunt, signing doesn't interest them. Hope they found they Waymarking page as well. You did right. As you say, not many out that way so you are doing your part to keep the cache going.
  8. Northbound Break Simply a small camoed botte stuck in the split of a tree and covered with natural debris. I had tried to find another county on the southbound leg, but the only cache along I-35 in that area was gone. This involved a short grassy walk, and was archived due to construction closing the picnic area.
  9. Several time I have stooped to copy and paste, but I feel it wasn't a problem. The first paragraph of the logs were c&p, and told the circumstances of me being in the area. Second paragraphs varied and were taken from the notes I made at each find.
  10. You didn't sign the paper inside (or mark a physical presence in another way), you didn't find it. Armchair logs should be deleted.
  11. It was therapy! How many times do I have to say that?
  12. If I didn't find the cache, I could hardly know if it needs maintenance, so won't post that. If a difficulty 1 or 3 has multiple DNFs and no finds in the past 6 months, and the cache owner hasn't been online since half of those were posted, I would consider putting a NA on one, if for no other reason to get CO to check their hide.
  13. I have a pill container that holds 4 easily. Upside down means spent.
  14. I use GSAK and couldn't be happier with it. I use several databases inside it, one for truck friendly caches, one for caches near home, one I upload marks I made while rolling so I can look for caches near truck friendly locations, and one that is used for odd trips into new areas. GSAK makes sorting and searching very easy. There are too many to name, but various ways I have searched are by state, within a certain distance of a line, a polygon filter to get odd shaped groups of caches ie:trip starts in Dallas, stop at OKC, finals in Memphis. I use a macro in GSAK to load cache info into my Garmin as points of interest. I use a macro to compile MY STATISTICS, even a home state county map. After running the macro you simply paste results to your profile. And after all this, I am only scratching the surface of the program.
  15. As an OTR driver, I keep bookmark lists of caches that are friendly to those of us in larger vehicles I have a bookmark list for unfound caches near our various company terminals I occasionally have a bookmark list for caches on a route when I am taking a new backroad. This makes them more convenient should I find some to go back and move to my trucker friendly lists. I have a bookmark list for the oldest active caches in Texas, I am trying to find a special one near for my 2000th.
  16. If that bunch of libtards doesn't like them, they must be alright! But I won't base my likes or dislikes on what they think. There are many cachers who believe in Jesus Christ, and probably many more who don't. What they choose to leave in caches is up to them, if you wish to remove something, trade for it. Taking to discard just because you don't care for something is censorship, pure and simple, unless the item is against guidelines such as food or weapons. Discarding paper items turned to mush is cache maintenance, mush holds water in place. Not all have share your beliefs or sentiments, but you need to respect theirs if yours are to be worthy of respect.
  17. Most of mine are solo finds. Just be aware of your surroundings, stay alert, and think before you try something stupid. Carry a phone and GPS, help can come if you need it.
  18. bump for vacationers and those drivers whose young cacher are with them
  19. Good thread going here, now you got me thinking without my wife's permission. Dangerous for all. We have a daughter who uses a wheelchair after an auto accident. She can roll to a point and then stand, problem is the spinal cord damage just makes walking next to impossible. I got to thinking of my hides, and of them all I can think of only 1 I have placed that would be accessible as it is along a sidewalk with ramps at the corners. Our community hosts a junk sale each month bringing folks from far and wide. As I think of more caches to place, I hereby pledge that I will try to locate those at least half to be accessible for the mobility impaired. I realize that this will make placement more difficult, but why should the challenge of caching be in finding only? Edit to add..... LPC placed for mobility impaired are not a good idea. I have seen you go across that parking lot, and you can't see a chair user around the parked cars.
  20. Congrats to the fellows for the find, an awesome journey that I enjoyed keeping up with. Job well done! ^5
  21. Channels through a delta region frequently change, silt in, get overgrown, new channels form. Maps, paper or in a GPS cannot be depended on. I'll plead ignorance here. Can someone give a quick explaination why navigatint the delta should be so hard ? The blog of the trip in 1983 (1984?) mentioned that they were concerned but they only had paper maps to guide them. Not a fancy gps like these guys do. I'm curious, too. It's all new to me. I've never been anywhere like that before. And the suspense is killing me. Find some wifi already!! Lol
  22. this has been interesting, I certainly hope the trip was rewarded. Total time on scene seems 2 hrs, 10 minutes. I am thinking that perhaps the step away was for another look or for pictures.
  23. Leaving edible things in a cache will draw ants and critters, thus the reason for that guideline. It is still done because some folks, even a few that Geocache, are not capable of intelligent thought (just watch them drive). Don't know if deer really love the tobacco, or just understand that it is a great dewormer.
