  1. A very special thankyou to all those cachers who got my TB to Norfolk so I could collect it and have it for the wedding of my cousin. FollowMeChaps and Globetrotter.uk(David) are just two of the people I know the names of but there were others involved. Cachers are great people and the ones in the UK are just like the ones here in OZ; a special bunch of people. I have released the TB again in the cache "narnian gateway" near Haslemere in Surrey (I think), with the hope that it may get back to OZ by March 2008. THANKYOU UK CACHERS!!!!
  2. When we arrive at Heathrow at about 6am, we usually drive the M25, then the M11 and A11 heading up to North Norfolk. If you could get it anywhere near that I would be able to collect the TB as we have most of the day to get up there from the airport. That would be great if it could be on the way. Also it needs a message on it to stop someone picking it up which is what it was supposed to have on it in the first place. Thanks heaps.
  3. Thanks for the idea. I might have to do that if no-one is going that way.
  4. In a couple of weeks time I will be in the UK. I was to pick up a TB of mine that was in the North Norfolk area and the TB was inadvertently shifted to Somerset. Seeing I will not be anywhere near Somerset, is there a very kind geocacher there that could move it up to Norfolk. I would be most grateful if someone could. The TB is called "Norfolk Tom" and contains a message that I want to read out at my cousin's wedding on 19 September. The TB is in "Beacon View" (GC10FEZ) at the moment. My mother-in-law lives in the village of Weybourne on the Norfolk coast and I had it about 2 miles away but unfortunately it has been shifted. Thanks for any help.
  5. Is there a way to delete dozens of Waypoints in one go. i.e. a bulk delete in a Garmin Vista Cx. At the moment I delete each one separately and that takes a lot of time.
  6. The way the weather has been out there the last 2/3 days you will be able to swim.
  7. Clyde & mrking, they both look fantastic. I have just downloaded the new macro and was using the old version but this is even better. Thanks a lot.
  8. Your right it's under "Geocaching Google Maps". That wasn't there a while ago... I was back in Austrlia only 2 months ago and that option wasn't available. All they nee to do is link it from up top next to the GCXXXX code and it's good. Problem solved. I'd just hate for something being available and people from Australia missing out on it. Glad we are now talking about the same thing and "Geocaching.com Google Maps" is a brilliant facility. I use it a lot as it gives a clear indication of what is around in an area AND you can link straight to their web page to view the listing.
  9. Its not the same.there is no link from the cache page showing all caches on the one page. You can do it but you have to go to a US cache then scroll to Australia and zoom in. There is no single link on an Australia cache listing that will show you what we see in the US. Go to the posting on the other page and it might make more sence... We can go to any cache web page of an AUSTRALIAN cache and on that page under the list of "for on-line maps" there is an option called "Geocaching.com Google Map" and this will give you a Google Map page with all the caches near to the cache whose page you have been viewing AND it looks like map 5 of the ones on your other listing. It has the list of the caches on the right and you can click on them to go to their web pages. I think that is what you are saying, and if it is, we started using it a few weeks ago. I wish I knew/had a program to cut a page so I could show you to be sure we are talking about the same thing.
  10. We get the same as you do in the States. We can get the map with a single cache or a map with multiple caches and they are numbered on the right hand side and you can click on them to go to the cache info. We have been using these for several months now.
  11. I have been using maps like the 1st and the 5th maps shown above here in Brisbane Australia for months. I think you might be a bit behind the times.
  12. We're just trying to help!! Is Paris involved there??
  13. Is there anyway that GSAK can talk to Google Earth to show only the caches I have not found in an area? Now is that asking too much? That means someway of GSAKs gpx files being converted to Google Earths kml files so when the overlay is put on Google Earth; only the caches I have in my GSAK file are shown.
  14. If the PQ is accepted and doesn't come up with a error for you to correct that is usually written in red at the top; then it should go through. It can take a couple of days before a real PQ will be sent out though so always leave a few days for it to activate. But you should get a preview of the thing as soon as it is accepted.
  15. I geocache sometimes with my 71 year old fishing mate and he gets a thrill out of finding the cache; even before I find it. He found 2 yesterday as we went out together and of the total of 7 for the day he found 2. He said that it is the achievement of concluding something to your satisfaction; ie finding the cache. Also of course there are the things that many others have mentioned like: getting outside in the sun and fresh air; getting the exercise of walking/hikeing etc to the cache site; the satisfaction of achieveing something successfully; being with friends; visiting some places that you would not visit otherwise and often there are magnificent views or lovely shady valleys etc. Great places to go.
  16. Now I'm no expert on the model of GPSr that you are using but one of the most made errors and I still do it occasionally is that after the co-ordinates have been put into the GPSr you then have to give the command to GOTO and select those co-ordinates to go to them. On my GPSr there is a GOTO button and then I have to select from all the co-ordinates in the GPSr the ones I want to go to. Then I am on my way.
  17. You can tell by the number of responses you've had that this question can't be answered simply. Every puzzle cache is different and requires a different method to solve. My thought is that if you can't get onto the idea that the cacher is using forget it and try another puzzle cache that you can handle. Some are math problems, some are mapping problems, some are computer problems and require specialist knowledge. The variety is enormous and there is no simple way. I have also noticed that in some math puzzles, an error is deliberately written into the puzzle and that's what you have to find, solve and then complete the puzzle. I know this as I've spoken to the cacher. Have a go or forget it. Long strings of numbers are sometimes ASCII and HEX conversion problems which are used in computer language. You can learn it and it isn't difficult but that is up to you.
  18. Do you mean download the hints directly into your GPS? Pocket Queries are used mainly by people who are "going paperless". In other words, not printing out the cache pages but downloading the info onto their PDA and taking that with them. The hints therefore can be viewed on their PDA OR on the web page of their PC but not on the GPS. The GPS only shows the co-ordinates and you have to enter those, manually or by downloading from your PC by connecting your GPS to the PC.
  19. The hints are downloaded with the Pocket Query when you receive it. If you are using GSAK to view the cache page you can click on "Hint" and it will show up if there is a hint.. If you are then downloading to a PDA you can view it there also by just clicking on the word "Hint" in the cache page.
  20. Thanks "biosearch" and others for your answers. I can do all this within Pocket Queries and use GSAK to view the .gpx files. Got it!!
  21. How do you link through to Google Maps that shows all the finds that you mentioned?
  22. I'm actually using a Magellan 315 GPS but I would rather keep the listing on my computer rather than on the GPS.
  23. How do you record and remember which caches you have found. Now, I've only found 59 caches and am new to this caper and I know some people have found thousands. How do you remember which caches you have found and therefore which ones you need to find?? Does this mean more paper or is there a better and easier way to record and remember. The brain is not as good as it used to be.
  24. If anyone who lives in Tasmania and can send me the co-ordinates of these golf courses I would appreciate it greatly. I will be down there late in October and need to find Barnbougle Dunes, Riverside Launceston; Royal Hobart, Tasmanian and Kingston Beach. I will play golf; and Geocache when not playing so I will need to find caches near the courses. Any recommendations for great caches to find while in these areas??? Thanks for any help.
  25. I have set up Pocket Queries and they download fine. I then use GSAK to view them and that works fine. I then save the file again as a 'gpx' file to synchronise with the PDA. The PDA when on-line downloads the data but not all. I can view the data on the PDA with PGXView and I can see the pages with all the info just like on the Geocaching site BUT I get this message on the Microsoft ActiveSync program on the PC that says. "Synchronised Files Cannot copy (**.htm files) Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type." There are 115 htm files that are not copying. What are they and how can I get rid of this annoying message? Do I need to change something in my GSAK when I save the gpx file or what? Thanks for any help that anyone can give me!!!
