  1. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I didn't want to start a thread and then not respond so sorry for the delay. I found the map I wanted was on http://gpsfiledepot.com a great find. Sadly I waisted the money Garmin's TOPO Maps. Really disappointed by them.
  2. So I recently bought a Garmin GPSmap 62s. I could only afford it due to the 64 coming out and the fact its tax season. Anyhow I played around with it at REI and liked it, brought it and like the set up. I still haven't uploaded any caches just yet I am about to do this after posting. My concern is in regards to the maps. The stock map is well lacking. Most everything is black. So, it seems I will need to buy a map. Now, the two reasonable options seem to be BirdsEye Satellite and BirdsEye TOPO. My first question is what is the difference between the 30 dollar option and the 100 dollar option? It seems to get the most out of your GPS you would need the BirdsEye Satellite and also the TOPO map. At this point you might as well buy a second GPS. So am I simply over reacting? Do all GPS Brands up-sell when it comes to maps?
  3. So who geocaches and does photography at the same time? I am not so much talking about taking a quick shot with your iPhone but has a dedicated DSLR or high end camera they lug with them? For me Geocaching is a way to get out of the house and get back into photography. Right now I have an old D90 with some average lenses. I really like the look of the new Fuji XT1. It might eat a good chunk of my Tax Return. Here are a few of my photos from geocaching. Its my goal to get all the WA State Park Geocaches. Lake Sylvia State Park, WA Rainbow Falls State Park, WA Millersylvania State Park, WA
  4. Yes, like I said. I am trying to create a list on geocaching.com, not download them to a GPS. Thankfully the poster above you helped me out. Thanks.
  5. So I have come up with a rather ambitious plan that I will complete the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour I already have 3 down and 101 to go lol. Anyway, I see that you can download all the points in your GPS device which is great, but is there a way to create a list or PQ with all these without having to input each one one by one? Thanks.
  6. Can someone please explains this to me? I have the iPhone 5 but when there is no signal I can do anything geocaheing wise. What step am I missing?
  7. So, as I am new to geocaching I have to say I am completely enjoying myself. It seems Geocaching is different for different people. For me, its about getting out of the house and seeing new sites. I was wondering who planned day trips to see new sites and go geocaching? I actually just made a trip to Snoqualmie, WA and visited the below cache, not a bad way to start the day, visit the falls, visit a bog, stopped by the Travel bug hotel to get my RV Travel bug "EB's Tour #5" on the way. http://coord.info/GC1M17C http://coord.info/GC2MVWZ http://coord.info/GC20ANM http://coord.info/GC4RHZ1 http://coord.info/GC1V19X http://coord.info/GC3821 Anyhow, just curious if anyone has sightseeing trips that are tied into geocaching trips.
  8. I am in the same boat, I have only been using my iPhone, but if I ever go to national parks I am stuck. So I was actually looking at the Garmin 62 considering the price should be dropping now that the Garmin 64 is coming out. Its a bit more than I want to spend but honestly looking at any GPS unit, there is always something someone does not like about it.
  9. The GPSMAP 64 has not yet been released for sale. It is expected to be available in late January or February. HERE IS the Garmin GPSMAP 64 introductory document Ahhhh. Gotcha. I saw the thread but thought it was just getting an update. When I went to the website a few days ago I saw it up there not even seeing that it was new.
  10. Anyone have experience with the GPSMAP 64? I really like the look of this model but have a hard time bringing myself to spend $300. That being said, when I buy something, I want to buy quality.
  11. This... this is utterly amazing. I am releasing 8 TB's in memory of my father. Re-capturing one has never really entered my mind but I am not sure if I could imagine something more amazing geocaching-wise.
  12. So, In my head I had a great idea of creating geotags in memory of my father. At first I was simply wanting to get some custom tags or coins but learning more about them that quickly changed and now I have 8 of what you see below. (I got a bit overzealous in ordering) The problem I have that I just found out is this: I have activated all the geotags under my account. In order to spread them around faster I was planning on sending a few to my brother, and my aunt. Both who live on the east coast. Looking at the geotag information in my profile I realize there is no way (that I can see) that I can simply give my brother the tag. I would have to log it in somewhere and he would have to find it. Is that the case or am I missing something simple. I am an idiot and figured it out *shakes head*. geotag by FootNote207, on Flickr
  13. If you go with those tags, I would suggest attaching an additional item to the chain, maybe a laminated business card size note explaining what you want to accomplish. Two reasons: one is that finders might be more inclined to take care to move it if they understand what you want and the other is simply that the tag itself is so small that it could easily be lost in someone's pack or car, or the bottom of a cache. Also, the website states that these tags can't be stolen. Of course that isn't true; they can just as easily be stolen as any other trackable item. I guess they mean that they can't be reused by the person who steals them, but that also is true of any other trackable. True.... This is probably my better option. Thanks. I might just go with a normal tag+personal tag attached.
  14. Thanks. I actually googled it right after asking the question. So far the best I found is this. http://www.coinsandpins.com/personalized-geocoins/travel-tag-engraving/geo-nick-stick-4set#.UsRwxnmyVWY I was hoping for something a bit more stylish but honestly this suits my needs perfectly. If anyone knows of any other sites please let me know. Thanks.
  15. Morning, I am hoping to get some help. I am very new to geocashing, but my mom and dad did it all the time when they traveled in their RV. I have recently gotten into it myself. I see there are trackables you can scan and some look like they have a code. My question is there custom Trackable Items? What I want to do is buy some that say "In Memory of EBinFL" (My dads handle) and while geocashing spread them out. The goal of this is to eventually on my moms birthday show her how all the tags have spread everywhere, and I think its simply a great way to honor and remember my dad. In short: How do I create a custom/personal Trackable Item? Make sure the items are trackable, i.e. people can log where they found it and they move around/travel. I am pretty sure I am asking a very basic/stupid question but I only have one geocash logged to my name a while ago and it was simply a log sheet. Very Respectfully MW.outof.FL
