  1. Here is a fuller explanation from 'the other forum' We have received a lot of mail in the last few weeks on the status of our trading gallery. Here's what we can tell you. We have stopped accepting any new members, or renewals to the current gallery. We have done a handful of renewals in the past, set to expire the first part of July. This will give us a "stopping point" from one gallery to the next. The new trading gallery is php based, and resides on another completely separate server than what we are currently running on. We are hoping to release the new version sometime in June, possibly July. This is all dependent on the programmer, the features we add from this point on, and a few other factors. We decided to not let people renew for a few reasons, but the biggest was to give us a little dead space so we can concentrate on the programming, catching up on the coins we need to add, and as stated earlier, we needed an ending point from one gallery to the next. As of this time, we do not plan on importing the current user lists to the new gallery. Users will need to go through a signup process and make a payment to activate their membership. The new gallery will have new features, and completely new programming. We felt it was easier to start fresh than to work up routines to import current lists. We will update information when we can. Thank you. Geocoins.net
  2. Go to one of your cache pages, or better still an unpublished cache page if you want to keep your cache page 'clean'. Use the add note and then upload your image to the log entry. Click on the image to open a page that just shows that image, copy the url shown on the address bar and paste this into your post. Hope that helps.
  3. Oooops. my apologies - I hadn't realised the cache name began with Mellon Udrigle - I only remembered the Wester Ross Wanderer #2 part of the name, Ding albeit late to Forester, and again my apologies. Clang to Highland Nick
  4. Forester may well be correct in his naming of the place, but I feel the Ding should go to Highland Nick since he actually named the cache, which although I know I had not specifically asked for, it is generally the trend of this thread so I am hoping Forester is ok with that.
  5. I believe there is a time and a place for everything, education children about Herpes with a Geocoin ? sorry, I just don't get it. What next, Captain Condom and the Thrush Invaders - where does one draw the line, it's not even a nice name, but each to their own.
  6. Well spotted MartyBartfast - I've been searching coastal areas
  7. Yes... Yes what, you want more clues or you lost interest??? It's darn under, it's an island, it a day of the week and the cache has something to do with Reds under the bed, I've said too much already
  8. You want more clues??? or has everyone lost interest??
  9. 1. Did you get a good deal? I would say it was a fair deal, you bid what you wanted to pay, in my book that's fair. 2. Were you ripped off? See answer to 1. 3. Is it rare? Had it been rare then I doubt you would have won the auction for ten bucks. 4. Is it worth a lot? I would say it is worth what you paid for it at most, alternatively one could argue that it is worth what you can get for it if you sell it. I always value a coin for it's aesthetic value, others have different criteria. If your interest in coins has been heightened by visiting the coin forum, one word of advice, budget. Don't look too often and don't get carried away at ebay, quite often coins quoted as sold out and VHTF (very hard to find) can be traded for or purchased from the original vendor. Watch and learn before jumping in the deep end. Most of all have fun.
  10. Jumpin Jupiter, I didn't even know the sale was due, I gotta check in more often. So sorry to here the pooch is poorly, I hope he recovers quickly from the surgery and Tristan gets his play pal back pdq. As for techie stuff I'm afraid it's Murphys law again. Hope you enjoy a well earned day off, heck take two, everyone will be ready when you are take care of you
  11. I'm not sure the owner gets the notifications sent through the website. I tried that to no avail. He contacted me when my Paypal didn't go through completely. Send me a PM and I'll get you his email address. He did make a comment in one email to me about "too many chefs in the kitchen" which I took to mean the folks running the webstore may not be in close contact with him at all times. So who knows if those messages are getting passed along or not. Well I wrote to Joel as mentioned above and I have had a really nice reply. He did have some personal information up on his site before but was not happy with it, but agrees that something is needed and is looking into it. Currently he is very busy fulfilling orders but hopes to take at least a look into the forums, he isn't familiar with them, and will make a decision on how to proceed when he has caught up. I hope Compass Coins do decide to come to the forums to announce their coins in the future, for the time being at least we now know their webstore address and can go take a look to see what is on offer.
  12. Reds down under (today), not under the bed !
  13. Tooey - There are trusting souls out in the world. For example, I know of a vendor in Arizona that sells Koa wood fountain pens. They usually run about $35-40 each. One day I wash mine with a load of clothes. I tracked the guy down and he, on good faith, send me a replacement pen and just asked me to send him a check after the pen arrived. He now has a loyal customer in me and I have purchased several of his pens. Just because this vendor does not haunt the GC forums does not mean he is a shady character. Nor does having the comments closed on his website. Give the guy a chance instead of prejudging him... Erm - I could post all day about trusting souls and great customer service - Casio repaired my camera free of charge - it was over 5 years old, if I ever replace my camera it will surely be a Casio I buy. (But like your Pen story and my camera - we both had an address to write to). I was not meaning to pre-judge, maybe my comments were too strong - but I think my observations were fair. I too wrote using the 'form' on the website, inviting 'whoever' to come to the forums and introduce themselves, I even suggested a short bio on their website to introduce themselves might be nice and some proper contact information, they haven't replied. Maybe they can sell enough coins without promoting them here, although we are already doing a pretty good job of that for them As I have already said, the coins look great, but I would like to see more than completed artwork for some of the coins before I committed to buy and I will not deal with anyone if they are not prepared to be open about who they are and how they can be contacted. Just my opinion, and no bad mouthing or throwing anyone under a bus !!
  14. I have to agree here. The person hasn't posted in here, yet is getting flak about it. If they wanted to advertise here, they surely would have, or they don't know about the coin forums? I can't see where some would expect him to come in here and answer questions, maybe they don't even know this thread exists! I do not know the person, but I would say, if you're nervous about ordering, order a small amount and see how it works out. remembering that credit cards/paypal have a safety net of sorts, you can likely buy with confidence! I'm not for throwing anyone under a bus, or bad mouthing anybody - I just pointed out some observations, they have no contact details on their website, clicking on contact us takes me to a pre-order form, I see finished artwork only for a number of coins, after recent shenanigins by some vendors is it so surprising that people are cautious ? and yes they may be totally unaware of the geocoins forum - but it seems a long stretch since they know enough to list at Coin Tracking.com Anyone serious in business knows his/her market, knows how to target that market and this so far has been another example of how not to do things, IMHO. From what I have seen, they look to be nice coins if somewhat expensive, however I will never again deal with any internet company that does not provide full contact details on their website (my banks suggestion - not mine) - and you may find that any protection offered by your credit card company or even paypal will have a caveat that requires this before honouring any guarantees.
  15. Well two things jumped out at me, they state all the coins are in hand, but several are shown as finished artwork - not finished coins. Second - I don't know of any coin company that would openly state to their customers to choose whatever coins they would like and once they have received them they can send the money. Is this intended to lull prospective customers into a false sense of security and pay upfront anyway. Usually if something sounds too good to be true it usually is. Testimonials from just three customers, no presence in the coin forums and the comments option on their website closed. This company may just be naive and a bit green about the gills, but ............................
