  1. does that mean the caches will also be archived or will they remain or if they are archived will cache owners be able to place new caches? I'm moving to Washington right after this ends
  2. wow gotta pay to play? Does Groundspeak get any of the proceeds? Is Groundspeak involved in any way? Why do we have to rent their GPSrs? can't we use ours and download the GPXs ourselves? I can see that paying would cover the cost of the tshirts... and besides anytime this becomes a competition IMHO is a turn off for ME I don't know about the rest of you.
  3. Yeah I don't know about day use, there is verbaige that says that if you CAMP (and pay for camping, duh) you do not have to pay for day use at the park which you are staying at but you would need a pass for other parks nearby. but here's what they say: Note about the parking permit, it seems to me you don't even need a pass if you have a WA state parking permit I don't know why they don't just honor any handicap parking permit from any state. Oregon does not offer discounts to disabled persons that live in the state but WA does for its residents? Kinda unfair; but that's ok! I am avoiding state parks that don't give a discount including Oregon state!
  4. I also read somewhere that its only people with disabilities that LIVE in the state of WA, anyone outside of WA who have a disability do not qualify and must buy a pass now they have lost my visits. If it were discounted, yes that's fine I don't mind but the fact they exclude out of state people with disabilities now that's just a shame cuz I have my golden access pass for COE/NPS EDIT I had the wrong quote, so added the right quote I had intended to quote.
  5. I still have coins I want to SELL, and take trades for, all my coins are UNACTIVATED and trackable so I expect likewise when trading. 6. Most people think a mile hike is difficult? Wow, well ok I have trouble going a mile at times bUT I wouldn't say its the MOST difficult to be a 5, for me it wouled have to be a 3.5 to a 4.5 depending on other factors such as grade and surface and the time of the year... but the difficulty level does not change automatically based on the time of the year so you have to make your own judgement call.
  7. That's kewl. The conversation is all about preferences at this point. Some folks find miles upon miles of concrete to be stunning. I find it repulsive. One man's trash? Definitely all about personal preference. Nipple deep in an alligator infested swamp is not my idea of fun either Come to think of it... it would not be my first choice, either. I swear I'm the only one here who not only loves beautiful places in nature such as mountain trails, and forest land, beach walks, even parks that are in the middle of cities, (Central park NYC, Pennypack Park, Philadelphia). At the same time, I also love beautiful urban area's, skyscrapers, urban structures made of metal, statues. I see the beauty in all of it, suburbs can be quite boring though with no urban structures, but there are some good parks if you look in the right places. Geocaching can make anywhere entertaining if it's one right. Ummmm.... that's quite a leap into an alligator infested swamp there, my friend. I saw some kick-butt (can't say the other word) parks in Vantucky (Vancouver/Ft Vancouver, WA) I am going back next year, their urban parks are well very much like CP... its so UNurbanized in the middle of urban... You go to the parks here in my hometown...you SEE urban right in the middle of the park... what good is the park then? Ok, I have to admit Tom Pierce park isn't as urbany as the All Sports Park or Riverside Park or if you want to think of Schroeder park thats not really a "park" that's a camping round... totally different place and again... its in an awkward location BEHIND a bunch of residential areas I can see urban right in it.. this place where I live SUCKS Or come looking for the food that just fell in. I was gonna say the SAME thing!, noise =! scare away! (but I hear this works for bears) Ah... no. You aren't the only one. I've been by Central Park a few times, saw aerial photos, and let me tell ya that the parks in Vantucky reminded me of that yet not the same I like urban if it isn't bland, even tall glass and steel buildings are all there is... that's boring if they have some unique architecture to it then that's cool and most high rises don't IMO. I have not been caching in more rural areas yet, I'd like to try cuz I think that would be fun! Though I don't have a GPS that can go "off the grid" just yet (meaning no wifi/3g, etc)
  8. Can you give me an idea of what it would cost to get one of these and ship it to the west coast in the USA?
  9. The last of the pinned threads at the top of the Geocoin Discussion forum will answer most of your questions, and also has a comprehensive list of approved vendors. You may be able to work something out with the vendor you choose to sell the coin through their store. Some vendors will 'buy' your design and pay you with a number of coins based on the number they sell. In my experience, the mints in China require a minimum order of 100 coins. It seems these days that any shape and/or material goes, but purists like myself do like our coins made of metal and generally flat (there's another thread discussing this right now). They can be shaped, have cutouts, moving parts, etc. But all of these will add to the price. Some vendors have in-house artists, or can suggest an artist for you to approach. Have fun with your first design! And good luck. Yeah I'm aware of the approved vendors and such, thought I would ask here first., I would not want coins made out of anything but metal so that's not going to be an issue. but I do not want to try to constrain my coin to a round blank so yes I am aware it would cost more to make them cutout and I'm sure the bigger it is the more it will cost too. I doubt my coins will have the sellability like other coins might as this will be personal I'd buy some in bulk of course, but I can't take the brunt of the whole 100 coins at say $5/coin that's pretty spendy not to mention all the other fees that have to be covered such as artist fee and codes, etc. Though I'd be willing to take say 20-30 coins off their hands and then let them sell the remainder and they would retain all profits or something I don't know. I'll look into the other vendors soon
  10. I want to celebrate my ironic achievement of 10 years of driving; many people thought I would never be able to drive but a select few did and this is because of my vision problems since birth and my family have made funny jokes about it and I want to show it off. But I have a few questions: After the artwork is made, and Groundspeak approves the coin and it is cleared for minting, must I pay to have a set number minted or can the mint that have a store front sell it right on their website? If I read correctly, geocoins have to be flat, but I don't recall if they are required to be round as well I have seen geocoins with variety of shapes, sizes, etc. I am not an artist so how do I help the artist do the artwork on my ideas? This is my first time trying if I do this Thanks!

  12. Sue somebody because you got arrested? I suppose it could happen. We appear to be in agreement that such a lawsuit would seem rather silly. I also think that the earlier imagined lawsuit by someone with a stubbed toe would be just as silly and just as groundless. I can think of at least one way to sue somebody because I got arrested although not sure how successful I'd be winning of course . If the cache were legally placed (ie: with permission) and then somehow the property owner decides that you are not welcome on their property including the cache might not be welcome either, etc. I'd agree if the cache were placed illegally in the above situation, and GS allowed it... I'd still sue but would I sue GS? Not necessarily. I'm just making a point whether a cache is placed legally or not and by following trespassing laws given an owner does not welcome said cacher ( on any kind of private property, ROW included as some of them are private too). This is why I will not hunt caches in areas that are potential for trespassing issues, including railroads, but I also look for the safety factor too, some caches are literally on the side of the highway with nowhere to park and you have to walk to it no matter how unsafe it is I won't go for it. Again, GS has a disclaimer that I am responsible for my own safe conduct. The only other way I can think of suing GS would be if they didn't shut down cache listings due to unsafe conditions but then that brings up my earlier point above they disclaimed that you are responsible for your own safety concerns. This doesn't imply that any of these scenarios would be winnale.. however silly they are.

  14. s forum is broken... I couldn't post with CG's replies/quotes cuz there were quotes that had too many open quotes that didn't match. whatever CG... I clicked I don't use img tags... I haven't got all day to be old fashioned anymore here you wanna see?! I SAVED LOTS of time!
  15. Pollution stained concrete as far as the eye can see? Ewww... Edit to add: Let's not forget the polluted river betwixt the two concrete jungles... Beauty must be in the eyes of the beholder. I think it's worth a visit. Imagine the possibility for a spectacular shot of the skyline at night. Actually, the view of the skyline is better from one of my caches a bit north. But 'the freeway' is the helix where Rte 495 circles down from the top of the Palisades into the Lincoln Tunnel. And this is the best view of it you'll ever find. Is the view of the freeway on the NYC side? I can't tell, but that freeway looks familiar, I took a freeway from Port Authority/Staten Island Ferry ack to Amsterdam St in NYC and the freeway makes a U loop just like that one next to the water.

They're not particularly dark, and having to re-apply them seems rather expensive. Why not just order a pack of custom temporary tattoos (google search : $60 for 100 1.5"x2.5") and apply them just before an event. That way, you can be the center of attention at the event with a tattoo across your forehead, without appearing like a deranged weirdo when you go to work / school the next day. That's kinda what I was looking for
  17. with today's tech out there... I have forgotten to write down TB/GC numbers, just take a photo of them and you have a record.
  18. I had a CO give me a hint without me asking after 1 or 2 DNFs I don't usually ask for a hint, if I can't find it I don't find it I might attempt it again or maybe not and if I know I'll be in the area long enough I'll give them a heads up but I don't expect a response right away as they have lives to run as well. I have been to stranger caches that pissed me off cuz of the sily 5/5 D/T
  19. now now... what a big mouth! I might have to rethink that dude!
  20. as stated earlier, if its inactive there might not be any trespassing issues so placing a cache on an inactive line would be ok cuz I'm sure if they reactivated it they're going to clean that mess up and look for anything on the tracks that could pose a hazard to trains (so if your cache is there, it'll get chucked if the line goes live)
  21. Snoopy is the work of Charles M.Schulz, an American cartoonist. We decided last year to make our own geocoin but was unsure of a design. Then my mum stepped in (who is a massive Snoopy fan) and suggested Snoopy. So we contacted Peanuts and after 14 months we finally have our coin. Unfortunately due to the high royalties we were only able to afford distribution for Australia and New Zealand. We've started talks on a 2012 coin which we plan to distribute worldwide. Until then we hope people enjoy our 2011 Snoopy geocoin. Happy Caching Interesting that an American original can only be sold in Oz/Nz and the royalties are bullocks in the USA/global? Well I hope someday these 2011 gems make their way to the USA unactivated someday cuz I sure as heck would LOVE one of these! I'd get a 2012 edition too, I know the 2011 is themed boy scouts or scouting or whatever... that is negligible to me I'd have the snoopy anytime! Good luck with your sales though

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henna Try a Henna, I live in an area that has a huge population of indians, so i've seen plenty of people and even have had a few friends do this. Easily removed and stays on for a while. Yeah that's right that's what its called, a friend mentioned that. But can you have them custom make what you want on it? Sure can! The issue is finding a place that will do it in your area, if you live near a city you should be fine, if you live near the suburbs you may have a chance, if you live rurally... Well... I hope you live in India. :anibad: I didn't know they had Henna tattoo shops, so I wonder if you have to be 18 to get Henna... I don't think we have anything like that in this dumb podunk town. If age is not an issue, I could see getting my sisters some pretty Henna tattoos
  23. Not to be knitpicking, but I think it's spelled "nitpicking".  blame it on my keyboard, it doesn't go as fast as I speak Okay girls, get along. I recently did a 2.5/2.5 where I had two soakers and was cut and scratched all over. I never worked so hard or did so much bushwhacking for a cache. Adding insult to injury, I had to explain to a local what it was I was doing. On the other hand, I did a 4.5D that I breezed through. It's all relative and strictly discretionary. One CO's view of D or T levels is quite different to the next's. You know what would be a good feature? A way for finders to rate the cache based on their experience the same D/T but averaged for all the ratings comined from all the finders (it would be optional) that way we can compare how on par the CO's ratings are... I did a cache that was a 4.5/4 but I think it was more of a 3/3.5 possibly 3.5/3.5 once I found it I realized it was actually easier than said but the D/T shouldn't be based on how long it takes you to find it even the most simple caches I have found sometimes take me just as long as it takes to find a much harder one and the funny thing is I walked by that cache 10 times before I looked WAY UP Another thing I noticed is the coords are never zeroed in on GZ they are usually 10-20ft from GZ the closest I've ever gotten on an accurate coords is maybe 2ft, and even for the most recent cache I found the coords were a good 25-35ft away from the coords I kept looking in the coord's general area not some 20-40ft away! Oh and if CO's want to base their D/Ts on the fact that their coords are off... well I'll be darned if I find your caches ever again! If that happened we'd have a huge uproar of people saying we "copied" it from Opencaching. I've actually found two "0" caches in one day, both by the same CO, I didn't even notice it until the person I was caching with (I was at an event) noted how good the coords were, both our GPS's said "0". I've never seen one before that, and never since, that guy must have one heck of a GPS. More than likely a coincidence. The starts, or more precisely the satellites, were aligned just right. It is unlikely you would find those exact conditions if you returned. But yes, in order for the conditions to be favorable for it to happen at all the CO had to do a grand job of getting his coordinates right in the first place. And before someone goes off saying that I am overbearing expecting COs to get it right no matter what, that's not what I was saying and I don't expect that. There is a difference between just slapping a coord in the general area and having the actual cache 25-40 (or even 50ft) away) than the coords being relatively 5-10ft off that's more acceptable there were trees where I was caching but more importantly the GPS still had plain view of the sky as it was not in a wooded area but somewhat distant to wooded area. I might be willing to accept a 15-30ft error in a densely wooded area since the GPS can't see the sky that well and then in that case I might also give a .5 or 1.0 MORE point just because it could be that much more difficult (like a cave cache, would be really hard to find due to lack of coords)
