  5. This is how I came across Geocaching. I was looking to buy a set of FRS radios. I saw that Garmin sold some that had GPS capabilities. I wondered why a person would need that. Now I know. In answer to how great is the passion now. I have been told I need the 12 step program This may come from the times we go out to eat and I have to try a cache while others sit all dressed up in the car while I bail out into the dark Or head out on Xmas morning or Thanksgiving PM Etc, Etc, Etc. TFF
  6. Not exiting but this is how the name came about. It was early spring and across the street I saw what appeared to be about 200 yellow ping pong balls jumping around in the neighbors’ yard by the bird feeder. I asked my wife what they were and she told me they were Gold Finches. I ran out and purchased just about enough bird feeders to consume a 50# bag of Niger seed. I placed them all over the yard so I could have them also and multiple people started to call me the finch farmer. Boring but true. TFF
  7. I doubt this was what you saw but this gentlemen sells on Ebay. I met him on 5/10/03 in Bonaparte Iowa. I bought 2 sticks from him at his shop. Very nice guy to deal with. You can contact him at dmwilson@netins.net or Below is his Ebay store. Just my 2 cents. http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=12008530

    Iowans?

We stumbled across this sport on the web. I still have no idea on why or how I came across it. Now all I do when time permits is read about it and dream of the possibilities. My wife and I will bu y a GPSR when we decide on what to get. We look forward to getting out. This looks like great fun and exercise. We are from Ottumwa and look forward to placing some caches after we find some and learn more about the sport. R&D PS – Thanks for this great site.
  18. Daturk This worked for me. I hope it helps you out. When you download you have the option to open from location or save to disk. Select open. It will not let you open. You will have the option again but this time save to disk. For some reason unknown to me it will change the file extension and you will be able to open it in easy GPS. Like the post said before you will have had to open GPS first and then go to the folder or directory that you down loaded to and all should work well. Good luck R&D
  19. I went to the DIY web site and looked at available listings up to 11/7/02 and there is no listing between now and then. It is listed under family and outdoors.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Eeyore/Shadow:you may have to modify your folder options so that .loc files always open in easyGPS or expertGPS if there is no aplication to open a file it will ask you every time untill its saved to open in that program. My other cachemobile is a broom! I now have the problem solved. Thanks R&D Is the broom one of those angle jobbies?
  21. quote:Originally posted by gnbrotz:I have to proceed through a series of _2_ dialog boxes in order to sucessfully save a .loc file from the GC site and _3_ dialog boxes to open one. It goes like this: The first time it wants to give me a file named 'cache_details.aspx'. _Click the 'open' option, regardless of what you want to actually do_. The second time it gives me a file named 'geocaching.loc'. Now, if I want to save it, I _click the 'save' option_ and save it in the .loc format. If I want to open the file rather than save it, I _click the 'open' option the second time_ which then brings up the third dialog box. I _then select 'open' the third time_ and the file opens in EasyGPS (I actually use ExpertGPS). Also, I don't have to open the program first, it launches itself when a file type associated with it (ie .loc) is opened. Greg N 39 54.705' W 77 33.137' I found that if I try to save it will not save. I try to open it will not open. It comes back to save and that is when it all falls into place. Thank you and everyone for the help.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Marky:I'm not sure why your browser is saving the file as .html. Try just renaming the extension to .loc and see if EasyGPS is happy with it. --Marky Sorry for using the wrong forum!
  23. I am just trying to get info to see if this is something the family and I should get into. I am currently looking at units to buy and also others things that I need to consider. I down loaded Easy GPS and was playing with it but I may be doing something wrong. Every time I try to down load from the Geocaching web site the file is HTML. How do I get this into Easy GPS? Any help would be great. Thanks R&D [This message was edited by The finch farmers on October 10, 2002 at 08:06 PM.]
