  1. From my home I have the grand total of 129 I live on the coast so have the sea, the rivers Dee and Mersey to try and hide caches in Dave
  2. For those interested in the issue I've posted a new thread on GAGB regarding adding Mortared Top Walls to the GAGB Guidelines. Please if your going to post any comments to the thread keep it factual and No personal attacks. Dave
  3. The assumption that a mortar topped wall is sturdier is not necessarily true. A mortar topped wall can be sturdier but more often than not it is simply an added weakness. As a wall settles it locks all the individual stones in place increasing in strength (that includes the toppers/copes) if they're mortared in place they're unable to settle and form a bridge over the top/last course of stones. The whole point of top stones is to lock both faces of the wall into place by their weight across the top of both faces. One or both faces will eventually collapse if the toppers are not in contact and leave a hole beneath the mortared tops. We advise all our clients that if they want mortared tops we will return after 6 to 12 months to finish up after the wall has settled. (a square yard of DSW has about 1 ton of stone in it) Today the majority of mortared walls are around house and road developments because contractors and councils are worried about health and safety issues or some lowlife nicking the tops (and if you saw the price of half round hogs backs you'd understand). Yes we'd like the work but we have enough on right now so I think it's best to leave dry stone walls well alone. team_loumon takes off his dry stone wallers hat and puts on his fireproof suit in anticipation. Read the above from someone whose job entails Dry Stone and Mortared Top Walls, from them it sounds like Mortar Topped can be just a vulnerable as Dry Stone walls and as such should be added onto the list in the GAGB guidelines used by our reviewers. A issue I intend raising on the GAGB forum. Dave
  4. Hi Can you provide a source for this quote because I didn't think this was the case. It is often said in various places but I didn't think it was actual law. If it's true then a huge number of dog owners break the law every day! The CROW stuff I've seen before and was helpfully accurate compared with my woolly memory! Cheers Everything in the document was obtained from the following web sites "The following web sites were used to gather this information www.bedfordshire.gov.uk www.naturenet.net www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk www.suffolkcc.gov.uk www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk www.ccw.gov.uk" Sorry I cant quote exactly from which one as it has been a while since it was written. Dave
  5. The Law regarding Dogs on RoW's: "Take a Dog, which must be on a lead, and be kept under close control near to livestock." And regarding Open Access under the CRoW act 2000: "Whilst dogs are welcome on access land, unless there is a local restriction prohibiting them. There are certain rules which have to be followed. You are required to keep your dog on a lead no more than 2m long, between the 1st of March and the 31st of July, or at anytime of the year, when near Livestock. Local restrictions may be in place, and there may be signs up with them, information can also be found at www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk . Existing rights to walk dogs, along footpaths or other rights of way are not affected. Please remember, that Dogs attacking or threatening Livestock may be “legally shot”." Dave
  6. Here you go: Why TB numbers shouldn't be public. Now that gave me a laugh! It might have given you a laugh I thought I was going dolally when I first saw it and then fell of the chair Dave
  7. Its to stop phantom finders logging the TB without actually seeing it just using the Tracking No. There have been instances of cachers logging large No's of TB's by getting the tracking No from log photos, which showed the Tag with the No visible. Without ever actually seeing the TB in person. Dave
  8. Have a look at Resorces for UK cachers which is hosted by one of our reviewers. You'll find Rights of Ways and the Countryside and Rights of Way(CROW Act) which gives a basic view of your rights of access, including a section on Dogs. Dave
  9. Congratulation's on this great millestone of 400th cache and going up that steep slop to the 400th cache here is to many more in time. Dave, Nette, Stephanie, Stephen & Trixie .
  10. I promise to make sure I do the same with all future events especially those already in the planning stages . A very simple idea, that's extremely effective
  11. Think you are supposed to include the date the event is happening on, not a random date 2 months after everyone else has gone home now corrected, I got my Months mixed up Dave
  12. Are these OK? Mud Pack Clean Up: N-Wales Third Annual CITO GCVACZ Flapping Draig-UK/Irish Event 2006 (Anglesey) GCV17J And yes they've been edited to meet the request Dave
  13. Mandy Galileo will generate signals exactly the same as the current US satellites, the corrections satellites will operate in a different way to the current ones enabling better accuracy correction signals to be sent. To receive sum metre signals from Galileo will involve both different equipment and a subscription to premium services which will be of no use for geocaching. Dave
  14. Well I'll put my hand up and admit that I changed my name . I started off as just Mancunian, then I got back into pyrography so added Pyrocacher. If the no name change had been active from the start I'd have been stuck with Mancunian and explaining what some one living in Wales uses a description of some one from Manchester, and not as it is now giving them double confusion Jeremy should put a Name is Locked warning on the registration page Dave
  15. All current and future GPSr's will receive the signals from both systems with no problems. What you will find is that there is better satellite coverage, and the WAAS enabled models will show a even better accuracy here in the UK. Each satellite has its own ID No. Dave
  16. Wales calling . As I regularly cache in them so visiting on a regular basis I'll cover Conway Gwynedd Wrexham as well Now all I've got to do is buy some shares in the company that prints the stamps and I'll be on a winner Dave
  17. Congratulations and thank heavens your still with us and able to carry on caching. Dave
  18. Quick Mandy put their names down for Cheshire before they realise what they've done If Wales is anything to go by. Mandy is using very old county boundary's, try wikki search to see I'm there in September for Flaping Draig cache event so I'll flip a coin with you at 2 paces Yepp their just as addictive so your in big trouble now Dave
  19. Well I must be the lucky one not a single congrats thread on the first page. The solutions simple, use Firefox with the Ignore threads Script. And just ignore those you don't want to post in, post in those you do and then click on the ignore button. Keeps things nice and simple Dave
