  1. I live in Greenbackville, VA. I want to get back to caching, but I'm not that keen on night caching since I am usually working on customer stuff after I get home from my day job. Does anyone want to do some daytime weekend caching?
  2. I am selling a Garmin Legend C that might as well be new on the shelf. I bought it back when it first came out because I was a little trigger happy. I found out that the USB only option was pretty useless for me. I have since bought a comperable unit with serial and I do not need this extra unit. This GPS saw about 30 minutes of total "powered on" time and it never went caching or into any outdoors conditions. I kept it in a soft case at all time, so it is like new. I am including the GPS, Garmin software (came with it) and the USB transfer cable, all placed back into the original packaging for $175 priority shipped to anywhere in the US. I have a PayPal merchant account, so I can take credit cards at jason@ke4nyv.com Thanks,

  5. According to the manual, you would need an antenna with an MCX connector. I have bought two patch antennas off ebay with MCX's for Motorola Oncore GPS boards, so I know they are available. The MCX is a friction type connector. Its small, about 2mm in width and has a tiny center pin. I have bought both straight and right-angle plugs in the MCX flavor. Judging by the picture, the way the jack in somewhat recessed in the case, I would suggest the straight plug. You can also get MCX to BNC adapters. Just be sure to check that on the ebay ad before you buy. Good luck.
  6. I just bought a brand new eTrex Legend at Best Buy last week to use for cable testing. Within a day I noticed that the unit would just cut itself off after about 30 seconds or so, I checked for any auto-off functions. Also, if it hasn't been powered for a day or so, it won't always turn on. I have to pull a battery out for about 30 seconds and then put it back in and then it will turn on. Has anyone else seen their eTrex do this? Was this a common firmware bug? I have the current firmware. I would hope somthing like this was fixed way before now. I can't see an obvious loose connectors or headers inside the unit (without tearing it open) Thanks, Jason KE4NYV RPC Electronics www.rpc-electronics.com (Custom Garmin GPS Data Cables)
  7. CCC and SBux came to our Turkey Cache Breakfast that we held a few days after Thanksgiving this year here in Roanoke, Virginia. I only got to talk to them for a few minutes, but look at her stats! Jesus! She owns over 500 caches! Can anyone say HARDCORE?!?! 9. I'm not sure how much this is going to be useful. But I have a new utility program I wrote to generate .loc files capable of being read by EasyGPS. It's a straight forward program to input the waypoint data for a cache and save it to a .loc file. The program supports file saving with a user inputted filename at the time of creation. Go to http://www.ke4nyv.com/software.htm and download the .loc File Creater program. If you encounter runtime errors, download the vbrun300.dll file from www.microsoft.com Feedback on use and if it's worth it and/or handy would be appreciated.
  10. I'll go right on over and join up. I'm originally from Virginia Beach Jason KE4NYV

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roanokevageocaching Join us. We're looking to ramp up the membership and find out who is caching in the area. We use the group to plan get togethers for eating and caching and anything else you can come up with.
