    waiting TB

I think you are doing the right thing here by trying to get it going again. Woodysfeller picked up a TB of mine in Jan and still has it. He won't return emails or respond in any way. My 7 year old son was excited about TB's but he sort of spoiled it for him. I wish he would take the approach you are and do the right thing. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  2. I don't think they are appropriate from a different standpoint. I value my beliefs and opinions more than Mc toys and wouldn't leave a bible or anything else that would have to do with religion in an ammo can. Or any possible leaky, wet container where someone who could care less what I think is just going to trash what I believe in. Keep the bible on the bed side table, the porn in the closet and the guns, ammo and fireworks away from the kids. These don't belong in a cache any more than you would put a turd in a punch bowl, same premise, lots will see it, a few will talk about it and someone will eventually get offended enough to remove it. either way it is out and probably in the trash. 3. I have had both and still have a Vista. Don't discount the usefulness of the compass. It brings in alot of nice features such as the sight and go function where you visually mark a distant point and the GPS will use the compass and GPS signals to get you to where you set the course to go to. The compass also will allow the unit to update without having to move to get a GPS signal change. If you buy metroguide the Vista will also allow for address lookup from the unit as long as you have the map loaded. For features, size, durablity and user friendly you would be very hard pressed to get a better deal. Sure others will say something about the V and SP3, but you need to look at the uses. Either way you go, you need, no HAVE to read the manual and get practice with it. Waiting untill you have to depend on it is not the time to pull out a manual. And, as for the etrex series on a motorcycle, the handlebar mount from Garmin is awesome, I have used one on 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, and street bikes (thought of Viagra and a handlebar mount for hands free operation at one point, but sort of dropped that one). I would definately look at the long term useage instead of 1 trip. Well, that's what the voices tell me to write. 4. They could also be referring to the process of walking backwards to clear your tack log. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  5. I have a Brunton GPS compass, makes it simple to take a map and get coordinates for anywhere on the map, also to mark where you are on the map (completes the "big picture"). It is cake to use and extremely well made as well as pretty inexpensive. It really helped me get from the GPS to the maps and in planning where I want to go using maps that are not available on a GPS. I have used it with BLM/ forest service maps as well as NGS maps, puts a fun new dimension on this sport. Just takes some practice. 6. I was in the mountains in the trees with my Vista, and my dad had his 3+(simlar ant to the V), the only time the Vista lost lock was in my pocket, the 3+ had some trouble. I have also had a legend and still have a basic yellow etrex, no complaints. I also had an Eagle, but was not impressed. 7. Hold down the click stick for a few seconds, and then change the information as in coordinates and then goto it. I think that is how it works, I use roads and rec and my serial port. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  8. I believe that would be the choice between different modes of transportation to get to a cache site: drive or thumb (hitchhike). I have never seen this one in reality, will watch for what it is too. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  9. A cacher picked up one of my TB's on jan 1, 03, and still has it, and will not respond to email. Have to write it off i guess. May make the new one a very ugly one and name it after the terrorist highjacker that kidnapped my Bug. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  10. I just bought an Olympus c-5050, it is awesome. Way more than a point and shoot, but loaded with features and takes great pics. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  11. I have been considering making a ground blind to take pictures out of that would look like a large rock, big enough to sit in. I plan on using canned foam, over a wood and plastic frome work with no floor, and then use window screen and the carved in "cracks" in the rock for viewing areas. I plan to finish it with the spray on granite in the rattle cans. If I ever attempt it, I will post pics and description on here. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  12. This is why I placed a new roll of TP in my cache, and will place one in each one that I make. I may even check on personalized zip locks to leave TP as a signature item! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  13. the next thing i would buy is a Vista and software for caching, then the SP3 in the car and Vista in the rough It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  14. currently: Vista and basic yellow etrex former: legend and eagle explorer fav, the Vista hands down have also used a 3+ It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  15. I love my Vista, the V is nice but like the etrex better. Smaller and almost all the features (except for finding pizza hut) and by the way, I really like the elec compass, is a pain to cache without it now that i have had it. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  16. I guess this shoots down my underwear trading cache idea...... It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  17. ...the treasure is usually covered by a bush ...the tighter the seal the better ...you are always looking for a new mount with a good position for your tool ...even if you only do it once, there is a good chance you will make more of the caches ...it sort of looses the fun to refind one instead of seeking a new one ...if you don't keep it clean, dry and hiden, someone is going to point at it and make it pretty much useless ...it is a bad idea to use explosives for either ...equally bothersome to have it smell like bad food enough to draw or attact animals. ...it is hard to ask for directions the first time you try ...you read about it, in manuals and on the net, and look at lots of pictures before you really try one ...it is always a good idea to just stop and look around, you never know what fun areas you can miss by just going for the cache, have fun and make a good outing of it It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  18. These are great, I use them on my V-65 Magna, and 2 of my 4 wheelers. Never had a problem with them at all with a yellow, legend or vista. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  19. The TB he is refering to is mine. We are waiting for it to get out again, no questions asked. This one was the first for me and my 6 year old son to release. We did 2 at the same time and this one stopped very quickly, the other has almost 3000 miles on it. Please let him go! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  20. My travel bug has been in the hands of someone for over 6 months. I have tried several times to contact him without success. How do I kill or delete my bug? It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  21. This is one of my daily rituatal websites to watch. A friend of mine lives in Port Orchard and works in redmond for MS. I am still trying to get him into this. andy It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  22. I am in Wyoming, but a bit far north for what you want. I am in Sheridan. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  23. One of the largest frustrations with mine is if I forget to calibrate the compass when the batteries are removed. Gets all funky on me. Also, you have to hold it alot flatter than a legend or one with out the electronic compass, but well worth the fuss. I had no problems figuring out the Vista, less than about 4 hours to have it do everything i wanted and the extras that i waS interested in going. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  24. fwd/inv This is good free software to do exactly what you want. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  25. The handle bar mount from Garmin for my Vista and basic yellow fits on the bars of my V65 Magna as well as my Yamaha 4 wheelers. They come with 2 different rubber strips that are different thicknesses, so they can be adapted. The bars on the V65 were almost too big, but it has a nice fit. I am thinking of getting a RAM mount though, get a better angle on the screen on the bike. On the 4 wheelers, on 1 the mount is on the handle bars, and the other i put the mount on the front rack to the left. Lots easier to see there. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
