  10. Due to the previous problems we had that some GAGB members were not receiving emails from the GAGB e.g. Seeker magazine (the last issue was January 2015) and some being marked as Spam by some ISPs, we would like to update our membership database. We therefore request that all GAGB members (website/forum) login to the recently upgraded forums and check that the email address listed is a valid one. Also, check that you have ticked the box to receive Admin emails (General settings). Information and screen shots in the GAGB forum
  11. We need some help in finding out the cause and extent of our problems in emailing members. We would please ask that as many members as possible, that believe they should receive emails from us please help us by completing a very quick poll in our forums. We need to understand how many people have not been receiving emails from us and then from those that aren't, which email provider they use and when they stopped receiving emails from us. The issue WILL NOT STOP people from receiving their vote in the forthcoming elections. We are using the forums for this piece of work to keep the responses in one place and easy to use. Thank you for your patience and support with this one. http://gagb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=5466

  19. We have received a written statement from MoD following the recent GAGB/MoD meeting. In summary, Physical caches on MoD owned estate (freehold/leasehold) are NOT permitted and if currently in place then MoD request that these are removed. Virtual caches (including Earthcaches and virtual stages of multi-caches, Puzzle and Wherigos) are permitted on MoD estate where the public has access. Cache pages should give any appropriate safety messages. Where MoD is not the owner/leaseholder, then they advise that they have no control over geocaching or other recreational activities and that it remains the landowner’s decision to allow geocaching. Dartmoor is an example of such an area. We understand that MoD are intending to remove containers from their estate, whether geocaches, letterboxes or others. Therefore geocachers owning affected caches are requested to recover these where appropriate. Please see the letter from MoD on the GAGB forum, folow the link below. If you have any questions about this or the letter from MoD then please ask them in the thread on the GAGB forums here before the end of September so that we can collate them and pass them on to the relevant person.
  20. GAGB approached MoD after we were advised by a cacher that some caches had been refused permission by a local MoD organisation, after it had consulted the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). We received a copy of this mail stating that MoD were considering their policy towards geocaching but this first mail also stated that: “Unfortunately we cannot, at present, give permission for any physical geocache to be placed anywhere on our estate. Whilst the MOD does operate a presumption in favour of public access on its estate, when compatible with military operations and training, we do not consider physical geocaches acceptable for local and national reasons” Following this, our negotiations have been with the Access and Recreation team in the DIO who will own this policy. We have requested maps of the land affected. Negotiations are ongoing and we are working to identify land which may be suitable for geocaching (virtual stages and possibly physical caches). I presume that once the policy has been finalised by DIO, that they will circulate it to their land managers. In the case of the Royal Parks and BT phone boxes, we were contacted after they had already made their decisions. This didn’t stop us trying and we have had some success in turning round such situations, for example the Forestry Commission New Forest. Dave - caching as The Wombles
  21. GAGB took up this negotiation after some caches had already been refused and MoD were already moving towards a ban on caching. We are still in the process of negotiating and we hope that this may result in virtual stages being permitted in some locations. We are also exploring the possibility of any areas of MoD land where physical caches might be permitted. Since landowners read these forums, we would appreciate it if cachers remember this when posting comments or asking for insight into negotiation strategy. We would welcome constructive ideas to help the negotiation and cachers can of course lobby MoD themselves. Please contact the GAGB committee through our email address
  22. The GAGB will be 10 in June this year! To celebrate we are planning a GAGB weekend on 1st and 2nd June – so please keep those dates free.
