  1. That's what I'm talking about. Most of those on the map are log only in desert fields. They use to be down on power caching trails back in the day. I guess power caching towns are ok now days. Trust me there is nothing interesting about the area they are hidden in. Years ago we did probably one of the first real power caching trails that was a hike in difficult terrain hidden by different cachers with different styles that was quite enjoyable.
  2. dprovan Well said. Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy dusting off my old gps and getting out again. I was just surprised/saddened at the quantity of log only caches in our area so close together that could have easily supported a regular cache. I wish I could post a picture of the cache over lay around here. It's nuts.
  3. I'm not going to be trolled into a debate approver/reviewer thing. Point being we went out recently for a few caches after a long layoff and were greatly disappointed on the placement and quality found. And why would we direct our anger towards the hider if your So called "reviewers" are "approving" crap hides like these. 527' from each other (Power trails)(numbers). Groundspeak and company has let it get out of hand for the numbers which don't mean anything if I can get a find a so called cache every 527' Edited to add that we use to get excited back in the early days when a cache popped up and we had to drive a few miles to start a nice hike just to find it. It wasn't a log only cache but a Real cache placed with care. Seems now days a cacher is driving in a 4X4 and tossing a film canisters out their window into a bushes and marking it as a cache hide.
  4. We have taking a few years off from Geocaching only to return to Log only caches placed every .10 a mile in bushes for numbers. This is not what Geocaching started out to be. When we started it was to bring hunters to a location interesting or a nice view. Shame on Groundspeak and the approvers for letting this get out of the scope and sprit of the hunt.
  5. We know why they quit hiding in our area don't we Bill.
  6. We have been contacted this afternoon via two emails and one phone call about existence of a small portion of this thread and one other thread targeted at us here. KF has decided to bring our on going feud out into the public forum most likely due to his insecurities and looking for some kind of public approval for his negative cache logs. Yes, we guess “Log Suppression Agent”, “resident defender of newbie cachers” and or “defender of newbie’s” is an appropriate title for us at this time. Unfortunately it is a requirement due to KF and his recent holier than thou attitude and continual cache bashing logs not only on local newbie’s caches but also on some of the local veterans caches as well because they do not meet his personal cache hiding standards. New cache hides in our area have just about come to a complete halt and can more than likely be partially attributed to his actions. Being one of the most senior geocachers in our area we have been contacted on many occasions asking what this guy’s problem is. He has caused two new geocachers that we know of to flat out quit geocaching after just a few weeks and several local veteran cachers to quit hiding and cut back on hunting caches because of his so called and unfortunately commonly used ”brutal honesty” type cache logs. There are more tactful means that could be used to notify a cache owner that his/her cache didn’t meet his HIGH expectations. Now KF admits that “it is better done via "private messages” in this thread. When a negative comment is put in a public forum it automatically puts the recipient on the defensive with a need to respond. Just like our response here in this thread for being called a “Log Suppression Agent”. It is our opinion and the opinion of other local geocachers that although KF has nice cache hides he has done more harm than good to our community with all the negativity.
  7. We just wanted to congratulate you folks on winning the 2007 Jeep Compass. Your photo was well done and truly a winner. Way to go! GarminArmin
  8. x_Marks_the_spot No worries and no hard feelings here. We were sure getting full on the popcorn and box drink that Trucker Lee had provided for us all. We had received a few inquiries about our entry photo over the past months but not in the public forums. What publicity you ask? Remember there is one more important huge part of this contest left to go. Cache on, GarminArmin
  9. BTW x_Marks_the_spot, we thank you for the additional unsolicited publicity for our photo entry.
  10. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me. Thank you Lil Elephants you got it right. Sadly there always has to be someone out there to come up with the idea that there is cheating going on. There is NO photoshopping in our picture. I repeat NO photoshopping. The GC.com symbol was printed on a mailing label and stuck on the earth picture and the shuttle and GJTB with a 1/4 “ socket under it for the tilt were positioned on top of the earth picture and the winning photo was taken, not that technical it was done in a matter of minutes. I can't believe we have to explain this. What a shame!! Apologies will be gladly accepted though. Sheeshhh
  11. We bought the 60csx Nov. 16th. When it arrived the backlight did not come on. We gave it a few taps on the side of the unit and it came on. Since then the backlight has intermittently worked with a few taps. It looks as though there is a loose connection inside. Got to contact Garmin and get this thing replaced. Hopefully this is not a wide spread manufacturing defect.
  12. To those of you who have been wondering and those that been e-mailing us… Yes we received the first prize Garmin GPSMap 60Cx today and this unit is hands down better than the GPSMap 60CS. It locks on to satellites right away even under the cover of a Spanish tile roof. Now we have to purchase another unlock code from Garmin for the maps. Plus we don’t have to calibrate the compass at every battery change. We are going to enjoy this one for a long time to come. Thanks to everyone that made this possible.
