  1. Sure seems like that's the average age, 30's and 40's. I am in that group. When I was in my teens and twenties all I ever did was wander around to go on hikes and bike rides. Nothing organized at all. Of course GPS was unheard of too, I would have been happy to use such a thing back then. But without the Internet I'd still have wandered aimlessly.

  3. Admittedly, I was anxious to get going on all this. Only being a week now doing anything related to GPS and I'm trying to learn fast. Not always a good thing, you know. Rainy weather now, otherwise I'd be out today searching; and I hate cold weather, so I'll be getting at least some time in before the winter hits (sure hope Farmer's Almanac is wrong!). Isn't usually real cold until mid-December around here. Doesn't help any that I'm mostly a night person instead of day. Thanks for those words of advice and comments.

  5. Yep, it does very well for the task. Instead of using NMEA like I do with MS Streets and Trips 2001 it uses the GARMIN setting for transfers. Both upload and download seem to do fine on my eTrex Legend. Also, if you haven't done so already, check out the Geocache and Geocache Found icons in your eTrex (I think the Yellow, Camo and Summit don't have them though). http://easygps.com/
  6. I'm really new to both GPS and geocaching. Oh yeah, "Hi there!". Put my 1st geocache out before I even found one. Well, I found a location, just didn't get to the cache itself. It has a rating of 3.5/5, and for mine I went with a 1.5/2. I used the helpful rating checker to see what it said I ought to use and I thought 2/2 was slightly too much for such a simple place. You can pretty much drive up to it, although it isn't accessible without a bit of a climb from there. Anyway, my concern is whether I can know yet how to rate anything even based on the questionaire or if it will take time to realize the differences. It's said that 5 stars could involve all kinds of gear or skills. 1 star could be a drive or short walk to a visible (mines fairly hidden) geocache. So, all I'm saying is that with the half stars and all it still doesn't seem a simple matter to know what to tell people to be expecting. That's where it really matters so I'm trying to get into the minds of fellow geocachers. From my viewpoint I think of you all as being outdoorspersons (to be genderless here) but that varies a lot in what people are capable of. I know many of you have wondered this which is why I've posted about it.
  7. Heh-heh. I just joined up with this geocaching thing and was wondering about the dangers of it just before I came across this message thread here. I had google-searched the 'net for geocaching danger and found this, somewhat morbid yet strange and funny (depends on your level of humor, hence my little laugh at start) web page someone wrote about an experience of theirs. http://www.noah.org/geocache/worst_case_scenario/ Maybe some of you know of it already? Like I said, I'm new to this whole thing as of this week and I think it's a really great thing for those of us who like to wander the outdoors. Be safe! heh-heh
