  1. Sorry for the reply, I just got back from vacation.... I finally figured out the issue. One of the media files was corrupted. Once I replaced it, the GWZ uploaded into Wherigo website with no issues. Thanks for all your help!
  2. Hi All, I'm trying upload a new GWZ file (~5.3 MB) into the Wherigo website. I keep getting this error message below. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? I had no issues uploading the file until yesterday morning. Thanks in advance!
  3. That's very exciting news! The app sorely needed an update!
  4. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to remember to search first before posting a topic. I'm all for adding QR codes to gameplay, but I would prefer that the feature be controllable by the cartridge, not the player. It's causing some confusion with some of the novice users in my area unfortunately.
  5. Has anyone had issues recently with the WhereYouGo app on the Android phone automatic prompting the user to scan the QR codes? I had a couple of recent finders on my Wherigos that were struggling with this issue and were led to believe that they had to look for QR codes in several of the stages in my Wherigo. I don’t use QR codes in any of my Wherigos. I know the Wherigo app for the iPhone doesn't have the QR code scan capability so there's no issue there. Thanks in advance!
  6. Thanks for the update Rangerfox. I'm optimistic...given that the Wherigo has such large following in this country and especially overseas. I really appreciate all the work you have done!
  7. Given that there's no longer active development of a common WF.Player for iOS or for Andriod, should be I worried that the Wherigo is going to slowly decline? The old Wherigo app for iPhone or Andriod is buggy and I can imagine that it will get worse over time? Any chance that this app will ever be release in the future? Sorry, I'm feeling a little bit discouraged at the moment. I really love this type of cache type and I enjoy making the Wherigos cartridges for the geocaching community in my area. I hate to see it fade away. Again thanks for all time and efforts in developing the WF.Player!
  8. That's a bummer. I'm so sorry to hear about that. Many thanks for all your time and efforts that went into this project.
  9. My Wherigo geocache was published on 05/07/2016 in a Tennessee State Park and has only one find. It's not listed as PMO either. Wow, I'm surprised. It looks like very interesting historical area to explore!
  10. That's a bad example since 73+ of those aren't really wherigos as they were intended. Wherigo as a field exercise is essentially dead. Wherigo as a dressed up mystery cache, that is alive and well. I guess there's a good number of geocachers that likes playing them that way. I agree with you though....I prefer and really enjoy the creative Wherigos that takes me to interesting locations or has a great storyline and characters.
  11. Wherigo is somewhat of a hard sell in my area (only 3 Wherigos were published in the last year) although it is very popular just across the Potomac River in Maryland. There are at least 75+ Wherigos in Southern Maryland alone. With the few cartridges that I have made, I’m hoping to show that Wherigo are fun and little bit more interactive and easy to use. The response has been very positive so far, but not enough to generate more Wherigos caches from fellow geocachers. I guess some are a little intimidated by the builders? I'm thinking of converting a multi-cache that I had planned for a park nearby into a mini-Wherigo (with some physical hides), using just the Wherigo\\kit. Hopefully that will show some of the geocachers in my area that cartridges are not too difficult to make?

    Tetris

Now you have me intrigued. I'm looking forward to seeing how Wherigo Invaders turns out!

    Tetris

To add...I played Tetris in the emulator for about 10 minutes which was enough for me to realize that I was never that good in Tetris! I panicked too much. I think its a really great idea for a Wherigo. I wonder if a space invaders type game is possible for a Wherigo? The slow motion of the blocks, left or right up or down, sort of reminded me of that game.

    Tetris

Tetris was a blast to play with! I didn't think this was capable in the Wherigo! Thanks for sharing this RangerFox!
  15. I noticed lately with one of my Wherigos, that a couple of geocachers are encountering some difficult time getting the cartridge run properly (the zone doesn’t trigger, the cartridge crashes and starts over etc.). I noticed that nearly all of them are using the “Whereyougo” app on the android phone. Are there any stability issues associated this app? If so, are any work arounds that I do with my cartridge to prevent this? The cartridge works very well on the iPhone it seems. Thanks!
  16. I love the name. What builder did you use and is the code available? Sorry, was out of town. I used earwigo.net I agree, great name! Was there a source code code available to create a reverse Wig in the Earwigo builder? I know there's one for Urwigo, but I was just curious if theres one for the Eariwgo? I'm interested in placing one in my area as well. Thanks!
  17. If you're not familiar with the builder, you could start with the Wherigo\\kit to set up your zones, messages and input and then import it into the builder to add other features (Characters, items etc.) to it afterwards. I did this with my first Wherigo (mylink) since it was much easier to put together and I didn't have a good grasp of the Earwigo builder at the time. With the iMac, you can use the Wherigo\\kit or Earwigo. Urwigo works on PC (Windows).
  18. I second bflentje’s recommendation of the Earwigo builder. It’s a really nice program with a lot of features and the earwigo google group is very helpful. Like all builders, there’s somewhat of the learning curve especially if you’re a nonprogrammer like myself. But there’s plenty open source cartridges or demos out there that can show you how to create your own Wherigo. If you’re concerned about playability of the cartridge on different devices, the Earwigo program has a built in “warning-system” that lets you know which code will not work on this Garmins. It’s a nice feature to have particularly if you have a lot Garmin users in your area like I do. I haven’t dabbled with the Urwigo program as much of yet, but at a glance it looks like an excellent builder with a lot of features. The visuals are very nice. The builder only works on PC however. I haven’t tried to incorporate audios in my Wherigos (I’m too busy trying to figure out how to program timers!), but I can imagine the Earwigo pros would know to do this.
  19. Thanks RangerFox. I'll keep that in mind not to tinker beyond the instructions that you laid out for me in the source code. I would like to give it a shot and see how it turns out. It looks very straightforward and hopefully I will learn a thing or two about coding. I still have to generate some questions mostly geared around the geocaching theme that you have already implemented. I would love to make one wedge specific to the State or to the local geocaching community. I will let you know how it turns out.
  20. Hey RangerFox I'm interested in doing a VA version (Northern VA area) of Cacher Pursuit. It looks like a really fun Wherigo! I have not used an author script before in the Earwigo builder, but I assume that I can make the changes to the questions, save and it should run as it should? Or are there additional steps necessary? I have tinkered with installing various author scripts in Earwigo in the past, it never seems to work in my hands...then again, I'm not a programmer.
  21. I spoke to the most recent finder and it appears he's been having "low memory" issues with his iPhone 4S with most of the Wherigos even with a simple play anywhere cartridge. He attributed the problems with too many apps open and the phone being too old. Thanks for reminding me to use the wiki. I need to read up on this source more often in case I have some issues.
  22. That is what I suspected what happened with my iPhone6 when it crashed during my field test. I had too many apps open all while trying to solve the field puzzle at the last stage. As for the size of the cartridge, the size of the gwc file is 1.8MB which should be fine. But I'll see if I can clean it up the media files to reduce the size of the cartridge. Is there a way to prevent data loss of the cartridge in the Wherigo app crashes? I've suggested to the cachers to save and quit often especially as they move from the church to the museum, but I wonder if I need to place save command in the cartridge in between the locations? I have it only at the last stage when the completion code is generated. CWillyPngn
  23. Thanks Forest-Ghost. I'll look into that possibility. I used the Preview software on my MAC to adjust the size of the jpg files to 230 pixels in width and 200 pixels in height. The average size is ~31 KB. Is that sufficient? Or do I need to make the files much smaller using gimp as you suggested? From the looks of it, I have approximately ~1400-1500 KB of media (jpg) files stored in my cartridge (52 files total, 46 files in use), but no sound files. Is there an upper limit to what the Wherigo app can handle? Thanks for your help! CWillyPngn
  24. Hi All: I have a Wherigo (GC5QA9K) that was published recently. It seems to be working very well so far, a couple of finders have noticed a “low Memory” warning that shows up in the Wherigo app the their iPhone. This results in complete loss of the data and they would have to start the cartridge all over again. Is there any reason why this might happen? Is it because of the app or is it the cartridge that causes to become unstable? Or is it the device? I had the error happened to me once on my iPhone6 while I was doing to some field testing, but I have not been able to duplicate the error (in 10 attempts) since. Thanks, CWillyPngn
  25. I forgot that I can’t use the characters with the same element name. I might have to create another character to appear in the second zone or use one of the work arounds that you suggested earlier. Thanks Forest-Ghost. Email sent.
