Coins do get stolen by muggle, lost, destroyed, moved without logging, forgotten to get logged for months, etc. However I do believe alot of these coins get stolen by cachers Some of the 'Fake' coins out there are replacements for stolen coins. I have noticed that drilling the coins and putting a chain and tag with a note on it seems to keep them travelling longer. I guess coins with holes in them look funny in collections.
