  1. I'm trying to do some spreadsheet calculations of my track logs. I'm using MapSource - City Navigator. When I look at one of my track properties, I can highlight and paste the information onto my Excel. The problem is that the latitude & longitude information are in the same cell. For example, in one cell, I may have "N34 30.324 W77 25.175". What I'd like to be able to do is put each bit of information into it's own cell. For example "N", "34", "30.324", "W", "77", "25.175". Does anyone know how this can be done? Typing in several thousand points along a track seems a bit tedious. Thanks, Dwight
  2. With the MapSource application open, go to the "Maps" tab. On the left side, under the list of maps, you should see a check box labelled "Include route calculation data. (Recommended if your GPS supports auto-routing)." Checking that box before transferring map segments to the GPSr sends routing data that are required for the GPSr to do auto-routing using all the details in the transferred maps. If that box wasn't checked when you transferred the maps to the GPSr, the unit won't be able to calculate routes using this data, and will have to calculate routes using the basemap. If that checkbox wasn't checked when you transferred maps to the unit, the only fix I'm aware of is to reload all the maps with the box checked. --Larry Thank you Larry and everyone else! Your directions worked perfectly. It's amazing, even after reading the directions/manuals and spending days "playing around" with the program, there are things that can be overlooked. This will be helpful on our vacation trip. Well, I guess I had better get to bed and get some sleep. We are leaving around midnight and have a 12 hour drive ahead of us. Have a great day! Dwight
  3. IIRC "Lock on Roads" does not have to do with routes, rather it will move your position arrow to a road if you are close to a road. It assumes if you are that close to a road (due to position error) you must really be on the road. Now, onto your original question. Did you check the "Include Route Calculation Data" on MapSource when you loaded the maps to your GPS? If not, it will be routing on the basemap. in that case, the route line follows the road on the basemap, and the City Nav map overlay will be on top of it. the basemap and the detailed maps don't always line up, and I believe would produce the results you are seeing. I've been playing with it for a while, but still have no luck. I've looked all over for "Include Route Calc. Data". I have City Navigator v8 and what it shows when I select "Send to Device" is check boxes for "Maps", "Waypoints", "Routes", and "Tracks". I've looked in the "Help" files under several different categories, but with everything dealing with "routes". Both the PC and gps are showing the information from City Navigator. On the gps, it is showing the turn-by-turn directions, but in the map view, the routes don't exactly fit the roads. For example, if there are some curves or zig-zags in the road, the gps is showing a straight line path from the beginning to the end of that road. Then, if there is a turn onto another road, the gps will show the turn. Yet, if I have my gps calculate its own route to the destination, the routes do line-up with the lines of the map. If I transfer the route from my gps to my PC, it shows up fine. It just seems when I go from my PC to gps, it's having some problems. What I've been trying to do is take the information from my AAA Trip-Tik and put it onto my gps. I spent some time plotting the route on my PC and figured it would be nice if my gps would follow the same route as the hard-copy of my trip-tik. Too bad AAA doesn't have a feature so that the trip-tik could be directly downloaded into a gps. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dwight
  4. Can we assume that the same version of City navigator is loaded onto your GPSr as is loaded to your computer? Yes it is. Dwight
  5. I'm getting to go on a long trip and have plotted my path using Map Source-City Navigator on my computer. When I loaded the path onto my gps (Vista cx), I noticed that the lines were not matching. The route lines that I created did not overlay the map lines on the gps, but they do on my computer. My gps is setup so that the routes are "snapped to the roads". Most of the route lines run fairly parallel to the map lines, but not always. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks, Dwight
  6. I found a website that kind of shows what I'm asking about: http://www.gpsdrawing.com/ http://www.gpsdrawing.com/gallery.htm Thanks, Dwight
  7. I'm new to this website and recently got gps (Vista cx). I've been looking through the forum and something caught my eye. I've seen, what I believe to be called, 3-D paths. Instead of looking at a route that is 2-dimensional (flat), there is another axis shown (x, y, z) that gives the routes a 3-dimensional look. I'm not sure if I'm describing it correctly. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If you do, do you know how I could go about creating the images? Is there any special software that is needed? Thanks, Dwight
