  1. one time someone assumed not only that it was a device for finding fish (though i carried no fishing gear, do not fish, and was more than 500 feet from a body of water where there is no fishing allowed), but also that i needed help in using it. "you're doing that wrong, let me help." another time when i was attracting enough attention from muggles to make me nervous, someone pulled up and parked and started doing something far more interesting than i was, so attention waned and i cached in peace. peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  2. i am a female who geocaches. i was turned on to caching by a female, and i have four other female friends who cache as well. benny caches with me sometimes, but he's still the minority if 2 year old daughter is with. peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  3. quote:Originally posted by Ragemanifest:...although i've only founf a few caches and i'm extremely new to this, what if the stakes were higher? My kids love going out and finding the toys, and i'm content with just finding the ammo can/container. But what if there were say, $20 bills in there, or Jewelery, would these caches be in demand? I have tons of this of value, that are just sitting around. wellll, if you are already content and having a wonderful time with it, *and* you have plenty of this type of thing lying about, why don't you just start putting it into caches? i've often been with a child who took a cheap toy and i left something worth much more...if the dollar value is what you're counting, not the insane amount of joy the mctoys give my kids. here's to quieter car rides! 4. coffee on the way if it's early, then water, fruit, jerky, and perhaps sunflower seeds. if benny's with me, there's always a stop at an all-day-pancake-breakfast after. i've never known anyone who loves breakfast so much. peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  5. or, the opposite sounds better: no one is allowed to suggest a rule *until* they've placed a cache. or...we all admit that frivolous rules for exceptions to the rule are pointless and take up valuable real estate... "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  6. i actually carry out, on a regular basis, much more eeeeevil rubbish than i have ever littered in my life. eh, whatever. i do think it's funny that that particular drawback was only written up for caching, and not letterboxing et al. (edit, evil spellfairies) peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  7. "what are your experiences/" my most recent find had a logbook (which asked finder to take the 'token blue notebook') and a beat up old small blue notebook. so i took the blue notebook and left about four new small toys, erasers, things like that. i think i improved that cache. jmo. my first hide's first finder "took $2 and french-english dictionary and left pencils and a pen." go figure. peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  8. yup, i agree. i found it slightly annoying, as i'm always carrying out rubbish when caching. but, hey, i'm not really a technogeek, either... the only "catch" listed for letterboxing is "people who use store-bought stamps are considered losers." peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  9. just got my may issue of backpacker magazine, and on page 21 there's a small writeup "games some people play in the woods" comparing orienteering, geocaching, and letterboxing. under geocaching, "the catch: serious techno-nerd quotient. and Leave No Trace purists need not apply." "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  10. never been all day, but today did four in four hours. i don't live in a, shall we say, cache-laden area. peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  11. "i told her i was just going out for some bread and milk, do you think she suspects we're really out caching? ...she was looking at me funny." "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  12. visualise whirled peas you're just jealous because the voices talk to me "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  13. i am 26, female. i go with whoever i can get to come, but the most often it's benny, also 26, and the kids on kid-appropriate ones, 6years and 19 months. "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  14. i didn't need bribes, they loooove it! i have a six year old and a ninteen month old and they absolutely love it--the 6yrold begs to go caching every chance we get! the one rule we found it necessary to make, as has been mentioned, is checking out the terrain (the littler one sometimes rides in a backpack carrier) and we don't take them along on ones where you must park the car more than half a mile from the coordinates...'s just too much of a walk for those little legs. (we do those on our own ) peace "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  15. you may even find some caches are easier, in some respects. two of my recent finds would definitely have been more difficult in the summer when the vegetation would have made it more difficult. bare scrubby shrubs are easier to see/walk through. "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  16. when you can actually park closer than you thought because now you can walk across water to get to the coordinates when you are down on one knee writing in the log "it's too cold to write" with a pencil you donated and your knee melts the ice and it refreezes so you nearly tear your jeans when you try to stand back up. "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  17. i like the idea of asking for quotes. that's clever. but perhaps i only think that because i am a quote addict. "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
  18. quote:Originally posted by Bob K.:No, it is not appropriate. Children make up a lion's share of geocachers and they don't need to be corrupted any sooner than necessary. Plus, most adults will likely not appreciate the surpise either. er...corrupted by nudity? for reasons already pointed out, and then some, i'm glad you're going for it. i'd definetely go cache for it and would have no qualms bringing my kids with me....nude beach, not *having sex on* beach. "i am but mad north-nothwest...when the wind is southerly, i know a hawk from a handsaw."
