  1. I've only been doing this for a few weeks, and I have 11 all within 9 miles. If I want any more, I am going to have to travel. I already have tentative plans, and if I travel for any reason, I will be prepared for some geocaching on the side. It hasn't been much of an issue, but if I wasn't travelling, then I wouldn't feel right picking up a travel bug because there would be no point. That is the downside to being a low milage geocacher.
  2. quote:Originally posted by GrizzlyJohn:I am not a lawyer. But I often wonder how a regular person can be expected to follow laws if they need lawyers to explain how the laws work. At least here in the USA the laws are supposed to derive from the people up to the government. Why as a people would we allow laws to become such if we can’t even figure them out. All of which is OT! . . . That is a sentiment I express often. I'm glad someone else has made this obvious connection. I also throw in there that even LAWYERS don't know all the laws, hense the specialization in different areas. How can we be held to the notion that ignorance of the law being no excuse when even lawyers don't know it. Same for the tax code. When will it end?
  3. quote:Originally posted by ikayak:I thought about making CD mixes so the person that takes them can listen on the way to the next cache. Labeled of course as to what kind of tunes. I'd personally hate to accidently pick up the wrong kind of tunes at a cache!! That would be great, but strictly speaking, aren't there copyright laws to consider?

  5. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat: My mother in-law was telling me this very thing as she gathered some puffballs (white inside) during an early morning hike. She took them home and made a delicious saute with them...... I believe the Aztecs had a word, unpronouncable to us, that translated, roughly, into "beware of in-laws with the urge to saute dubious items."
  6. quote:Originally posted by The Face: PS--you DONT want to breathe in the "spore clouds" from puffballs, and its bad for dogs to. I dont remember the name of the disease at the moment, but I had a friend lose 3 dogs to it ,,then he sold his house and moved away from the river that had puffers all over in its flood plain. Nasal passages run very close to your brain. Nice dark, warm and damp place for a fungus to grow, too. I'm surprised this isn't more of a problem with spores being so inhalable (is that a word?). But you don't have to worry about the ones that die. The ones whose minds are now controlled by fungus are more of a threat. They are everywhere!

  10. quote:Originally posted by Criminal:I keep finding these beat up golf balls that have a red stripe around them. What's that all about? Those are usually "range balls" from a driving range, definitely the bottom of the barrel. Personally, the contents of a cache isn't that important to me, but I would rather not see junk thrown in there. I think some people may find it humorous because of some "quirkiness" factor, but I just read it as people not caring.

  12. quote:Originally posted by VentureForth: Of course, Moun10bike will know for sure (but since I'm a forum addict, I'll answer), but I don't think he sells them. He buys all of them and makes them all travellers. Some folks keep 'em, others pass 'em along. Yeah, I might email him, but I figured he was flooded with this same question, so I didn't want to ask if the answer was already well known.
  13. That is too bad - I was just about to purchase some for my first cache I was going to place. But this reminds me, is there any way to buy the Moun10bike coins? I am new to this, but I have searched around and not found the answer to this on the boards. I imagine it is something that is "understood" by those who have been around here longer. Anyone know?
