  1. Since we just organized a trade, don't add my name to the list Let someone else have an opportunity at one of these cuties Here are my resolutions/dreams: -Sleep more -Move somewhere with better weather -Get more sleep -Be more consistent about running -Get enough rest every night -Finish PolskiKrols coin design and get it made! -Move up to climbing 5.10's -Go to sleep at a reasonable hour and start waking up refreshed for work -See more of the world/leave North America more often -Go back to Utah, and Colorado. Do some slot canyon hiking and climb at least one 14er -Finish coloring in my cached states map, and get to work on my cached countries map! -Get better rest (am I repeating myself?) -Get to a point where I can stand up on a surfboard (and not fall right off)
  2. Yeah, sorry about that one... I have had 2 events at breweries out here, and attended two more AND whenever I goto Shopp99er events they have brewed up there own beer! Event life is good! Okay, now I'm jealous
  3. I think I posted something yesterday saying I'm not interested in the recent designs....then you have to go and prove me wrong! Gorgeous coin, great job Trades anyone ?
  4. Wow, nicely done! I love the back on the Antiqued version Anybody wanna trade for my personal?
  5. Wow, reservations, and I still missed the sale! I wasn't kidding when I said I was getting bad Anybody order extras and have an interest in my personal ?
  6. An event at a brewery with a gorgeous coin ! Mark, we miss you back in Jersey!
  7. That's one lucky bunny to have been found by you Thanks for rescuing it I hear about it all the time, but I can't imagine what type of person would release a domesticated, house pet into the wild to fend for itself
  8. My interest hasn't necessarily declined, but it definitely shifted. Getting my own coin produced definitely changed my perspective. When my personal, with so many colors and details came out to less than $4 per, it's hard to justify paying more than $10 for a commercial coin, even if a large part of the difference is trackability. Actually, especially since that difference is trackability since I'm probably not releasing it. Regardless of the $2.50 for trackability though, it seems like some designs are just unnecessarily expensive ($2.50 + $4 = what $6.50?). Without mentioning which one, the turning point for me was a really pretty (round) coin that I really wanted, but with shipping came out to $16! I think it did well, but I had to stop myself and say this is just ridiculous. Since then, it's been a lot easier to tell myself no. Some coins have more to them, and I certainly don't expect people to design them for free and sell them at cost, but there is a point at which it reaches absurdity. Trackables go missing. People keep real coins sent as travelers. It seems like at least once a week, I get an email from someone who found a cache one of my coins was supposed to be in, asking me to mark it missing. This doesn't make me want to release more coins. Though I do like to see them travel. People don't like replicas. People do like icons. Cheaper options, like the tags are therefore appealing. Not only are they less likely to go missing, they're a cheaper loss when the do. Coins to keep in my collection, I still want. But, honestly, not a lot of designs have called my name lately. That statement does not include a single one of your designs. But your designs have the opposite problem! I've gotten really busy. In life, in work. I'm not complaining, looking around at much of the country, I'm very lucky to be so busy. But, my attention span, my patience, and my memory suffer. Life is hectic. A week after your designs sell out in under a minute crashing your server again, I think to check the thread wondering when the sale is going to happen and then smack myself in the face. I'd love to be trading, I have a box of silver personal coins waiting to be traded! But I'm so busy, it's hard to get to the post office when its open, it takes time to look at trade lists and answer emails and buy bubble mailers. Time, and attention span, and energy. With this weather lately, I have no energy for all of the things I would like to be doing. I'm about 50 cache logs behind! I recently found my 2000th cache, but I have no idea when or which one it was because I haven't logged so many. It gives me a lot of pleasure dropping off my copper coins in caches, and I keep doing that, but I've yet to hear about someone finding one, even in their log on the cache. It makes me wonder if they just didn't say anything because they didn't trade fairly, or if no one took it b/c no one liked it. Its a tad discouraging, but I'll keep on hoping someone finds them who will appreciate them. Which reminds me, I need to send an email thanking someone for something unexpected Maybe everyone else is really busy and forgetful too, and really meant to say something! I've reminded myself so many times and forgot when I got back to a computer, but I do certainly appreciate the gift
  9. I don't know if the guideline changed, but my attitude hasn't! I wouldn't rate a cache 1 star unless it's wheelchair accessible, I don't want to waste anybodys time!
  10. If I have a special version of a coin that can't be sold here and don't have an ebay acct, can I mail it to you? When are you planning on sending the gifts to his daughters? I want to mail something but probably won't have an opportunity to go to the post office until Monday What's his paypal address? That's good news
  11. swag There are tons of geocoins out there that aren't trackable on geocaching.com. usually they are used as gifts for other cachers, traded with other cachers or left in caches as swag. Tracking adds quite a bit of cost to the coin so a cacher making a coin with no intention of selling it (to sell it in the forums, it needs to be trackable) might make it non-trackable knowing that most people won't set it free to travel anyway and there's no need to track when it sits in someones collection at home. Numbering is an option in minting, it adds a little bit of cost but not nearly as much as tracking, some choose to do it, some don't. It's done to differentiate the different coins of the same type from each other, 1 of 250, 2 of 250, etc. Before keeping it in your collection, make absolute sure it's a Numbered Untrackable coin! Some older coins' tracking numbers are 3 digits. If it's trackable, the sentence (or a close variation of) "Trackable at geocaching.com" will appear somewhere on it. Check the rim too! Sometimes it'll be there so not to detract from the design If it is indeed untrackable, then enjoy your new coin Make sure to trade fairly though, a non-trackable coin is a nice piece of swag
  12. I haven't posted to this thread in awhile, but I'm still dropping em Glad to see so many others are too! While I was in Cali, I left one in a cache near this view: Someones found it since then, but didn't mention the coin... So if you recognize the view, it might still be there Dropped a few others too, but this was by far the prettiest view worth sharing
  13. I'd agree with Moop Along, email some vendors and see what they tell you. Trackability and Icon are cool and support the site, but also add a lot in terms of cost. Ordering more coins will decrease the price per coin, because of the die cost as well as the icon cost (if you go that route) I don't really know a general range, but if you want a specific example, my own personal is 1.75" with 10-11 colors in tiny spots, and I thought I got a great deal. They were <$1000 for 250 coins (I think $3.90 per coin) but they aren't trackable. Glitters and glow in the dark and other special things cost a little bit more, but I don't think the special versions of my coin with glitters came out to that much more than the regular ones. Just a few cents per, and I believe the difference in cost was mostly due to ordering fewer of them. If the mint has to make 15 of one color scheme, they will charge more for them. I'd advise, if you're already spending so much, don't compromise on your design to save a few dollars, get something you're really happy with.
  14. I've stopped buying a lot of coins but I will definitely be needing one of these. You could not have picked a more spectacular spot on the planet to feature. To date, I have never seen anything more beautiful than the Valley of the Ten Peaks, a camera cannot capture its magnificence. I took so many futile photos attempting to. When I got up on top of the rocks and looked out at the reflection in Lake Moraine, my eyes started tearing up, I had to look away for a moment, then look back, trying to process what my eyes were taking in. It didn't look real.... I'm not exaggerating. And there's an earthcache there; Gardengorilla placed it! I might have missed this amazing spot, if not for a cointest I had before my trip where she advised me to go there (and I'm still so grateful for the tip) So it seems like this coin was made for me, lol.
  15. I think you're thinking of Letterboxing. No reviewers or enforcement of any rules over there. And it really shows. Theres one inside of a Barnes and Noble that explicitly says on the page not to ask employees for help because permission was not gotten, that would not fly over here.
  16. The first time I started designing my personal, another similar coin came out and I put the design aside. It took me two years of trying to come up with something else that would be fitting and just as nice, to decide to just go for it and mint my celtic knotwork shamrock. I'm happy with it, even if it's a theme that gets repeated a lot.
  17. Can I come? I couldn't handle the winter though, I'm back in the Northeast for the week and dying I've been thinking about making the CA move permanent! Came in here thinking it was a coin announcement I think glacier needs a coin Good luck with the move! It sure is amazing up there!
  18. 110% pure awesome. I was saying everything that came to mind "I'm making no sense right now, but I hope it's loud enough to sound intimidating" George, awesome guide, I'll keep that in mind next time So far I've kept up my end of the deal not to get myself killed while I'm away.
  19. I just had to dig this one up. Lyme sucks. Three weeks of stabbing stomach pains from the antibiotics really sucked. Poison Ivy sucks, and Mosquito Bites hurt...then itch.. Spider webs are icky. But, I'll take bugs over pumas any day. Seriously, ya'lls pretty tough out west too (CA not OR, but still)
  20. I had Sunday off, so I hopped into the car for an adventure. I was going to leave one of my personals in GCTDFG but I didn't end up finding it. It's a good story, I felt I should share: It was gorgeous out there. Hot, very very hot, but gorgeous. I'm having some laptop problems..and Hotel Internet problems, but I'll try to post photos when I can. edit to add: I've found a bunch of CA caches so far, but not left any coins yet. Count on it being a challenge to find one I'm looking forward to more adventures whenever I find the time.
  21. Lol, I think the cointests are done, due to lack of interest and the fact that I'm on the west coast now working 12 hour shifts (no time to find a post office!) My odds of making it to GCF are looking slim... Glad everyone is liking them and thanks for all the trades! Mark, you didn't have to send me your personal too! But thank you for the nice bonus!!! Steve, I'll tell George to bring one when you go kayaking.. Haha, he's got authorization to drop them in any T-5 caches he deems worthy while I'm gone, so if you want a copper, well...
  22. I found one of the sig items they made from their die, in a cache it IS awesome
  23. Carla, are you coming to GCF now ? paganfrog, no worries you can keep the 3 year old, lol. You won't see the Dillo 'til October I just checked the calendar and it's unlikely, the way the weeks line up, I'll probably be working then Of course who knows how the schedule will actually work out, but the plan so far is 14-10 hour days in a row followed by 7 days off! Maybe we'll end up working a regular week and having weekends though. Who knows?! The rest of the team is out there already, 4pm meeting today! I'm leaving Monday, yikes! If I'm not handcuffed to a lab bench (I was told we'd be handcuffed) I'll get myself there
