  1. I guess it would be no fun if it brought you right on top of the cache. The fun is in finding it.
  2. Well I received my magellan explorist 500 in the mail yesterday and was off to do my very first geocache today on my lunch break. I found two out of two of my first caches! It is a bit misleading though when the gps says you are still between 10 and 20 feet from the location when as it turns out you are right on top of it. Is this normal?
  3. I tried installing with the exe and the cab file. It seems to install correctly, but the executable that it gives me both in the programs directory and in programs folder for gpxsonar, is not an executable. It says that components are missing. Anyways, cachemate seems like a good solution unless I am informed that gpxsonar is much much better. thanks for your help!
  4. Thanks for the recommendation. I tried cachemate out today and it works great!
  5. As many may have read, in my search for a cheap/free palm pilot, I got a Dell Axim X5 running windows CE 2003. I tried installing GPXSonar, but doens't run. What should I run? I know I need to run gsak....and it runs fine. Any sugesstions for the best CE app? Thanks in advance.
  6. As luck has it, a buddy of mine handed me a Dell Axium (PDA running windows CE) as I was on my way out of work. I assume that this will do me just fine.
  7. I have the 760 as well. You cannot use it since it does not have any way to be powered by battery. It seems to me you might be able to plug in the coordinates and have it route you via streets to the closest place a street can take you and then you would have to use a portable gps once you leave car and go on foot.
  8. OK..Thanks. I have an old Palm VIIx somewhere at home if I can find it (have not seen it in about a year). Maybe I will try that.
  9. I am looking at the palm Z22 (is this the same as Zire 22???) to do paperless caching. I found one at bestbuy for $99. Is this a good option?
  10. Is the mapsend worth it? In response to embra's thoughts, I am the type of why pay $100 now to get by and then realize I would really like a $200 unit and end up paying $300 in the end instead of the $200 up front. I am sure I will be posting threads in the getting started forum so I am up to speed by the time I get my gps in the mail (like how do you normally get to the location...do they give you enough information that you know where to park or even enter the venture off road) thanks for all the help... 11. Thanks for the tip...I had just noticed the same thing that Radio Shack has the 500 for 229. I searched all over to find a local store that had the 400 in stock, but since I have to order online, might as well pay $30 extra for the 500. Am I going to far to buy something for a sport I have not even tried yet? I already have a roadmate in the car for navigation so the only reason I can think of for using the hand-held is for geocaching...especially since the wife would never even think of going backpacking.
  12. I would like to get started geocaching with my daughter this weekend, but first need to buy a gps. I have a magellan roadmate in the car that i have been very satisfied with, so I think I will go with a magellan explorist. At first I was looking at the explorist 300 ($129), but then realized it had no way to connect to pc so that is out The 210 ($149) and 400 ($199) both seem to have everything I need. I am tempted to pay the extra fifty dollars to get the 400 since it has the ability to take sd memory. Any advice would be apprciated.
